Anyone have an opinion on which would be the better resort to stay at during the first or second week in September? Yeah, I know the CB main pool will probably still be closed until mid September. That has me leaning toward CSR. Or do they historically open earlier than announced like they do with attraction refurbs?
First, some background and personal information to help you decide:
We're two adults traveling without kids for the third year in a row. (One has a fiancé and the other has better things to do (she thinks) with her friends. Plus it works out well in that she can dog sit our two Goldens while were gone. We've stayed off-site numerous times over the years at places such as Holiday Inn, Best Western, Vistana, EconoLodge, Marriott, Comfort Inn, a few places in Kissimmee, etc., and have stayed at all the All Stars, and POP when staying on-site. Value resorts only, so far, except for one business trip when my ex-employer agreed to pay for a room at the Dolphin where the conference was being held before they knew what the cost would be.
We never could justify spending a lot on a room we were hardly ever in. Our kids were the type that would go non-stop from when the parks first opened until the lines closed at night, and then theyd fall asleep in the stroller on the way to the parking lot or in the car on the way back to the hotel. And that didnt change much through their teens, except for the stroller part. When they were little, we used to make hotel decisions based on which ones had kiddie pools for any non-park days, and later it was mostly based on cost.
DW and I stayed at POP the last two years and liked it, since it was new and they had a decent food court. But now she wants to stay somewhere "different" (and better, and a little more expensive, of course, although she really didnt come out and say that in those words, exactly.)
We know our way around WDW, take advantage of EMHs, and also know which rides and attractions we don't mind skipping or dont really care for, so we usually make good time at the parks and wind up having a few hours on most days to sit by the pool in the afternoon. DW goes in the pool to swim and cool off, but I'm usually content to occupy myself with a six-pack, a radio, and a book until we're ready to go back to the room to get ready for the evening's activities. So I guess the pool atmosphere would be important to her. Me, not so much; I can sit in the sun and drink beer anywhere. Now that I think about it, I guess I really dont even need to be by a pool.
We don't care much about on-property TS restaurants, as we plan to go to ones not located at either hotel on this trip, and we plan on trying Pepper Market for lunch one day no matter what resort we decide on. (I never heard of that place before doing my trip planning this year. Has it always been there?)
And since we spend all day at either a park or by the pool, we really only use the room for sleeping, showering, and changing clothes, so as long as the room is a little larger than POP and the bed is comfortable, the décor probably isnt all that important. (At least not to me. Im sure Ill find out what DW really thinks after I come up with a recommendation. For now its the usual Its not that important to me, as long as its nice.) Sure it isnt.
Access to Disney transportation is a non-issue as well be renting a car, as we always do.
Any advice or comments would be appreciated. Im fairly new to DIS, but have been extremely impressed by the Disney knowledge level of so many of its members and their willingness to share with others. (Especially the food porn reports and pictures which are great.)
