Due to the 2005 WDW hotel prices we are looking at downgrading to a mod. We have stayed at POR and loved it, and stayed at BCR and didn't like it due to the size of the resort and length of bus waits. DS (10) is talking about CSR because he likes the looks of that pool slide. To those who have stayed at the other mods, how does this one compare? Also, I have seen positive and negative reviews of the food court which worries me. HELP!

I just returned yesterday. Well, I wish I could say we loved it, but we didn't. It was VERY crowded and we had fairly long waits for every bus. If you really want a moderate, stay @ POR, or POFQ. The bus waits were no longer @ POR than @ CSR. Our room at POR was so much nicer since the resort was recently refurbished

Good luck and enjoy your trip, but I do recommend POR over CSR, if I had to choose right this minute.

If you have any further questions, just ask.

Best,
Brando

If you do a search here on the DIS you will find many reports about CSR. Several folks also have web sites all about CSR.

To us the only differances between the moderates is the themeing. Other than POFQ size and bus stops are more or less the same. You will see positive and negative about all of the places to eat at Disney. We enjoyed the Pepper Market at CSR as the food was a better quality then regular food court food. We did not like how big CSR was and the fact that they did not seem prepared in the main pool area for the Memorial Day weekend of 2004. I would reconmend staying at POFQ.

Have stayed at both the POFQ and CSR. My son loved the CSR when we were there. When we stayed @ POFQ we found no difference in wait times for the bus. At CSR over one Christmas through New Year's and it was full and we never felt overwelmed with people. The only time we ever felt a crush was staying at CR over the 4th of July...parks were packed and so was all transportation. I think it's just a matter of personel taste and when you go. Hope you have a great vacation where ever you stay!

I loved  CSR. I just got back from there on Friday. It felt so much like a deluxe. My DH even thought we were at a deluxe :rotfl2: . But he doesn't know nearly as much about Disney as I do :goodvibes . I loved the Pepper Market, the food was always tasty :mickeybar . The bus service was fine, no problems to report. Our room was great. We were in Cabanas 9b, which is a great location. Short walk to main pool and lobby area. We were really close to the quiet pool, but we like the main pool, since you can refill your mug there. Also the hot tub was huge. This was very nice. I thought it was very romantic as well. My DH and I (we have no kids) just relaxed on a hammock one day and took a nap. This was soooo nice. Hope this helps! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

CSR is a great resort. Best pool of all the mods, great transportation and beautiful landscaping. Check out my website below for pics, links and info.

Of course if you go in the summer months of the 50th anniversary year you have to expect it to be a bit more crowded.

CSR was rehabbed in 2004.

IN THE MIDDLE
The Pepper Market is either a love it or hate it place. We love it but some folks just don't care for it.

Convention resort - some guests don't like seeing other guests at work. Doesn't bother us and helps keep the buses empty. GF, Cont, BW, Y & B Club are also convention resorts.

The Pepper Market is not an ordinary food court.

The Pepper Market

This is not your typical food court. Rather, there are several hot and cold food stations with individual chefs and servers. You can get breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert items at The Pepper Market. The following food stations can be found in The Pepper Market: Mexican Kitchen, Wok Kitchen, Soup, Salads, & Sandwiches, Grill Station, Pizza Kitchen, Pasta Kitchen, Children's Kitchen, Beverage Station, and Bakery Counter.

Upon entering the Pepper Market you will be given one meal card/receipt per person. You must keep these cards. DO NOT LOSE your meal card. Once your host seats you they will ask if you need anything to drink and tell you where the beverage station, etc..is. The Pepper Market hosts are NOT waiters. They are there to seat people and make sure their table has cutlery, napkins, etc... They will get drinks if you desire.

What makes this food court/restaurant different is that you go around to the various stations and select food as desired. Once you make a choice the chef at each counter will stamp your card and serve give you your chosen food. Many of the items at the stations are cooked to order. There is flexibility in combining items. This is a great place for someone who only wants a light meal and the rest of their family wants a heavy one. For example: you can grab a side of Spanish rice from the Mexican station and order a steak from the grill station. The combinations are nearly endless. I love the variety and being able to pick and choose at leisure. If I feel like I want another roll in the middle of my meal all I have to do is get up and head to the bakery station with my meal card.

The best thing is you do not pay until you see the cashier after your meal. While you have the card you can get up and retrieve food as often as you want without having to pay first. This is great since other food courts require you to carry money to each cashier every time you want something else. This is a wonderful option for someone that truly wants a casual meal. Alcohol is also available.

Once you have finished dining, collect your menu cards and take them to the cashier. The cashier calculates the total due. There is a ten percent gratuity automatically added to all orders. To me this is well worth the variety, service and flexible meal options. If you are only going in for take out the ten percent will be waived. Just tell the cashier you are only there for take out. Don't forget to tell the cooks you are there for take out so they package your food properly. You can then take the food back to your room or eat at one of the tables outdoors. In the Pepper Market you also receive real cutlery and cloth napkins (Paper ones are available as well) I found the food at the Pepper Market to be of higher quality than your average food court. Portions tend to be larger as well. If you only want to get your mugs refilled ask the host of a refillable mug pass and go to the beverage station. Upon exiting hand the cashier the pass on the way out.

Some people balk at paying a 10% gratuity. Personally the service and options are well worth a ten percent tip. I like that I can talk to the person preparing my food. If I don't want onions on my sandwich I can tell the cook directly instead of having to relay it through a cashier and then hope the chef got the message. No other Disney food court has as much variety. For someone like myself, who gets tired of typical burgers and sandwiches this food court was a blessing. I also found the portions to be larger than that of a typical Disney food court. This is also the only food court where one doesn't have to clean up after themselves. You simply leave your dishes and tray on your table when you exit and a clerk will clear the table. I found this restaurant to be one of the more relaxing ones at Disney. It was a nice change of pace from the endless lines at Theme Park restaurants

Any recent visitors tell me if they have foam or feather pillows. Due to some allergies i need to confirm this because if the feather pillows have touched the sheets they need changed too.

Thanks,
Connie

I don't think they are feather pillows because I hate those and I would have remembered that.

We also just returned from CSR (Friday) ~ Agree with your post completely. I posted on another CSR thread about our disappointing stay. If I was staying at a mod again, I would return to POFQ.

I agree with Chipper10! CSR has a deluxe feel to it. The bus service was great and we love the freshly made food of the Pepper Market. CSR rocks!

We found the negatives outweighed the positives for us, and we much prefer Port Orleans (either one). CSR is very beautiful, but it seems really spread out. You are either far from the pool or far from the food court.

It seems to me that people without kids like the food court and people with kids don't. I think that is because 2 adults can each stand in line, pick up their our food and meet at the table. With kids you need to go through one line with them and bring their food to the table, then stand in another line for yourself (unless you want the same thing). It is very inconvenient. Also, we are totally not picky eaters and I must say I had the worst burrito of my life there.

If you really want to stay there, I would recommend taking the bus to the Boardwalk to eat.

CSR is the best!!! Beautiful grounds and theme, best food court, themed pool and buses, rooms are comfortable and clean. CSR is our favorite! :sunny:

In my opinion CSR would not be my 1st pick for a moderate. I prefer POR and POFQ over the other two.
The landscaping and grounds and buildings are beautiful and very Disney!
However, being the only Disney resort for hugh conventions, it seemed a little different. There were Sooooooo many people and conference folk. The food and the food-service was kind of poor I hate to say. I've had better housekeeping at other resorts too. Too many business type things happening around me due to conventions. I love POR !! You will get all sorts of pros and cons ! Enjoy chosing, all Disney resorts are great ! :wizard: princess:

Wrong. We love the Pepper Market and I have a DD (now 12). She has been getting her own food since she was 10. Before that, I would take her around while my wife got her food. No problems.
