I've been going back and forth trying to figure out if the DDP is the best option for my family and I just realized I may be misunderstanding one important aspect of this plan, so please someone help me out here. We only plan on 2 TS meals for our trip ( 8/12 - 8/19). We are doing Poly on friday and we were going to do Hollywood and vine for breakfast with little einsteins and such. We didn't really 'plan' on doing any other sit down meals. We may or may not do them, but we weren't going to plan on them and just settle for counter service if no opening were available with a reasonable wait. My question or rather what I think I finally became clear on is this: Am I correct in that you can not use TS credits at CS restaurants! This being that if we have 4 adults which equals 28 CS credits and 28 TS credits, that all 28 TS credits have to be at Table service restr's. If this is the case I can't see the DDP being worth it because we don't want to be tied to reservations at TS restaurants every day.

Let me know

thanks

On our last day, we used an "unused" TS for a CS meal at MK. No questions asked. But it was only one, I'm not sure if it makes sense based on you will only use 2 of your TS.

With only 2 Table service restaurants and paying for the DDP, you may be losing money.

I would look at what you you expect these meals to cost oop and determine if it is still to your benefit to keep the ddp.

The DDP is not "one size fits all".

from just the fact that you only want to do 2 TS meals, I think the DDP would probably NOT be the best use of your money. I have heard of people being able to convert TS to CS meals, but then others who have been unable to - so it's not something you can count on.

I think the OP said they didn't want to make more than 2 ADRs, not that they definitely were going to do only 2 TS. But all the previous advice is correct. The cost of the DDP for 4 adults is ~ $156 per night, so you need to use all or at least the vast majority of those TS credits at TS restaurants in order for the DDP to make financial sense. Now, is it possible to go to WDW even in summer without any ADRs and still be able to use all your TS credits and save money with the DDP? Of course. But you will probably have to contend with (a) long wait times at peak dining hours; (b) very popular TS restaurants being completely unavailable (i.e., turning away parties without ADRs); (c) dining at off-peak hours; and/or (d) having to go across the park you're in or to another park or to a resort to find a restaurant with availability.

there are a ton of good table service meal places, that are better bang for your buck than some cs. the biergarten in germany in epcot is one of them. you can use a cs for any type of breakfast, or early lunch, and then do one of those types of TS later in the day. their food is wonderful! and its all you can eat :):thumbsup2

edit~~ btw, you can check out allearsnet.com---they have menus for every restuarant, and a list of which places are table service or counter service. hopes this helps!!!

I forget what the formula was, but last year during free dining they offered a trade-in of TS's for a combination of CS and snack credits. The reason for that, however, was that they had probably oversold the capacity of the TS restaurants and there were droves of people wandering around ADR-and clue-less. As far as I know right now, there is no such opportunity to trade TS for anything.

It will vary with the size and composition of your group and your normal dining patterns, but for our family (2A, 1C), we would not get sufficient value from DDP unless we were using ALL of our TS's for table service meals.

From the Dining Plan FAQ for this forum:
Can I use TS credits for CS meals? No. During the last free dining promotion, Disney did extend an offer to use TS credits for CS meals (plus two snacks and a cheap lanyard), but that offer has expired. Prior to that offer, some (but not all) hotel front desks allowed some (but not all) guests to convert some of their remaining TS credits in the CS credits, with the understanding that once converted they cannot be converted back. However, that is not an official part of the Dining Plan, and so you may or may not be successful in getting them to do that for you.

Can I use two (or three) CS credits for a TS meal?
No. There is no way to combine CS credits to "pay for" a TS meal.

Can I exchange CS credits for snacks?
No. However, some eateries which support both CS and snack credits will allow you to use one CS credit for two or three snacks. That's not a standard thing, though, and it isn't necessarily consistent either.
There is a lot of great information in the FAQ that you may want to know about as you're considering or planning on using the Dining Plan. The FAQ can be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=16079998

Stick to the menus right here at the dis boards. We were just at the world 2 weeks ago & The menus here are much more up to date than allears. At least at the places we dined at.

It was a pleasure to take the time & sit down & relax for a bit at our TS meals. It is alot of planning , but worth it.

Especiallly with little ones - you dont want to be eating 'fast food' all week. Plan some late lunches. There are so many wonderful places to eat that serve fresh and amazing food. Take advantage!

If you're only planning on doing 2 TS meals, then I think the DDP isn't for you. You might be able to exchange a TS credit for a CS or you might not, it would just depend on the CM. Eating only two TS meals you will lose money on the DDP. It will be cheaper for you to pay OOP.

still new here, where might i find the menus here? are there prices on the menus here too? that will help us figure out what we can use credits for and what to pay oop if need be, like breakfast. we arent wasting two whole cs credits for breakfast at the mara or something, when we could use it for lunch later!

DDP wouldn't be worth it for you, if you plan on doing only 2 TS meals. The DDP will cost you $38/day per adult--and you can eat two counter service meals a day for way under that price (probably about $24/day per adult--and that's with drink, tax, and dessert--could go even cheaper if you skip the dessert).
