Cruising towards 10 days of fun... a July/Nov 2012- & We're BACK!!! Pg.50-51

Great news about Juliana's scan! :woohoo:

I agree that CP and CRT on the same day sounds like an awful lot of down time. Just tell them that you called and CRT is already booked solid. :rotfl2:

that's great you will have a nice long visit with grandpa! sure he can't wait to meet Christopher and see Ana again! have a feeling there will be some beach time mixed in there and fun to see the cousins too!

Mornin' everyone.

I just received a call from my dad telling me that my grandfather passed away last night. Last Thursday he took a fall and broke his clavicle. Saturday he was sent to the hospital because he had uncontrolled vomiting due to the meds he was on. They also found he had a touch of pneumonia.

Is it wrong that I am not overly sad? My grandfather was 96 years old. He lost my grandmother to alzheimer's about 12 years ago. It was so hard watching her decline. She had to go into a nursing home and he was there everyday from morning to night. He was heartbroken when she passed. He has been living with my dad for about 6 years. He was really slowing down, he has fallen a few times over the last year and wasn't steady on his feet anymore. He had glaucoma, had to do breathing treatments 4 times day, and had to take numerous pills every day.

He was a WWII vet. He was the captain on oyster boat in Long Island Sound for a number of years. He was a recovered alcoholic and hadn't touched a drink in over 50 years. He cared for his 3 sons, his 8 grandchildren, and his 7 great grandchildren.

He will be missed but I know he is in a better place with my grandmother.

Here is a picture of 4 generations taken this summer after Christopher's baptism.

so sorry to hear this...
what a beautiful picture of you four! something I know you will treasure!
sending you all  and prayers!
sounds like he lived a wonderful, happy life and overcame lots of obstacles! he is with his girl again so hope that will give you all some peace.

Oh Tim, I'm so sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing. But it sounds as if he lived a full life and is indeed in a better place, as you said.:goodvibes I'm sure he's happy to be reunited with his wife. He sounded like a real wonderful man, overcoming some very tough trials in his life. What a great tribute you gave him in those few short sentences Tim.:goodvibes

I love the generation picture you posted, I'm sure you'll treasure that and what fun to be able to share it with Juliana and Christopher. I'll pray for you all during this time, it's always sad and bittersweet losing someone you love but knowing full well where they are now. Best wishes to you and your sweet family Tim.

I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather, but a fall and a broken bone in someone his age is just enough to tip the scales. I hope he passed peacefully. It sounds like he lived a remarkable life and I'm sure he will be missed, but I do think he was lucky to avoid a prolonged hospitalization.

Thank you Lisa. It is easier to remember him as younger and vibrant than to think of how he spent his last few years.

Thank you Molly. I do appreciate your kind words. I am going to dig up some pictures of him when I was a kid. Those are the best memories I have of him. :goodvibes

Thank you Mary Ellen. My wife said she felt the same way. He was getting frail and that fall was the beginning of the end. I do feel lucky that he wasn't stuck in a hospital and from what my dad told me this morning, he passed in his sleep.

There hasn't been much planning going on recently but I did want to share a few ADRs that the crew came up. We just asked everyone to give a few places that the definitely wanted to eat, and any that they DIDN'T want to eat at. Here is the list....

Breakfast

(Jamie) Crystal Palace LOVE LOVE LOVE
(Everyone) KonaThanks to you, LOVE LOVE LOVE
(Melody) Tusker HouseNever done

Lunch

(Jamie) Cinderella's Royal TableNever done
(Dave) Le CellierWould definitely do for lunch, but never dinner again
(Tim) Beaches & CreamStill haven't made it here

Dinner

(Dave) Cape May Good, but the prices have skyrocketed
(Everyone) 'OhanaNever done

DON'T EAT LIST

Y&Y (ts) Any reason why?
Hollywood & VineSmart move

This is a preliminary list. I do see one problem so far. Jamie wants to eat at CP & CRT. I'm not too sure how this is going to happen unless on our day off we go eat breakfast there then leave the park and on our MK day eat lunch at CRT. I'm not sure I even want to eat at CRT. :confused3

I know the wives were talking about bringing the girls to BBB. That seems like a lot of 'downtime' doing BBB, CRT, and CP in the same day. :scared1: I guess there is a lot to figure out trying to fit this stuff in.

That is it so far with dining. We do have another few months till we have to make out ADRs though so we have time to work on it.

Oh, BTW, did I mention we are going to Florida over Easter 2012? :confused3 ;)

Tim, sorry I missed this yesterday. Things were a little "excited" on my end with our news (yes, I folded and told everyone on my TR).

My comments on meals are in red. Yes, I knew you were going to Florida for Easter. Lucky you.

Tim, I am so sorry for your loss. But I can understand how you are feeling. It is hard when they reach that age and they aren't the same person anymore. As you said, he is in a better place and with your grandmother now.

So sorry to hear about your grandfather. I know exactly how you feel about not being sad. I was EXTREMELY similar when my grandpa died. He was 87, and we THINK he had a heart attack or pulmonary embolism, either way, I remember being more shocked than sad. He had a good long life, but when my grandmother got Alzheimers disease 22 years ago, it tore him to shreds and part of him died when she went into the nursing home in 03, it is a waiting game with her, and I feel I will have the same reaction when she passes. I feel like I already did my greiving with her. I now run with the Alzheimer's Association in her honor, and when she passes her memory. I hope you find peace with his passing. I will be thinking of you and your family.

Tim, I am going out of order because I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I completely understand the feeling that you know now he will be happy with his girl. Today is my grandfather's 96th birthday, and while I am selfish enough to like to keep him here, I know that he is sad every day since my grandmother died in '10. They were truly life long sweethearts and soulmates - sounds like your grandfather had this relationship with your grandmother, too. Know that they are happy together again.

(I was going to post on your FB but you didn't mention it there at all, so I didn't want to change that. )

Park days-

I spent the other night doing some research and trying to figure out our park days. We all want to do MVMCP one night and fit a day off in our week. I was trying to fit everything else around that.

This is what I came up with.
Friday Nov.2- Arrive in the evening, get settled in, get the kids to bed then I'll probably run to the store for supplies.

Sat. Nov.3- Drive to Give Kids the World to visit in the am. Come back to POFQ in the early afternoon to meet up with our friends (who should be arriving around 12-1) possibly swim and get ready for dinner

Sun. Nov.4- DHS (3.9/10 TP)

Mon. Nov.5- MK (5.1/10 TP)

Tues. Nov.6- ? Touring plans has this day as a 1/10. Maybe hit a park in the am then take the afternoon off? :confused3

Wed. Nov.7- Possibly MVMCP

Thurs. Nov.8- EP (4.7/10 TP)

Fri. Nov.9- AK (6.4/10)

Sat. Nov.10- Say bye to our friends who are leaving. We will probably meet up with Melody's cousin. Possibly going to DHS to see the Osbourn lights. :confused3

Sun. Nov.11- MK??(1.5/10) I'm sure the crowds are low because of MVMCP that night.

Mon. Nov.12- Fly home in the late morning/early afternoon

what nice low numbers! you should be able to get a lot accomplished, even if Christopher does not nap in his stroller. You are bringing your own, right? Its much better than renting because you can use it in the resort, in DTD, wherever. when she was 3 1/2, Katie always slept in her stroller. If she was not so tall, she would STILL doze in a stroller!!

We have NEVER once followed anyone's touring plans and, I must say, we've been very lucky.

I find the touringplans to be very haphazard. I feel like we walk enough during the day without a bunch of back tracking and skipping all over the parks. Joe's method (and it works) is to beeline to the back of whatever park we are at and work our way forward.

Oh, BTW, did I mention we are going to Florida over Easter 2012? :confused3 ;)

YAY for Florida for Easter!

I do think that CRT and CP is too much, but (GASP) I am not a fan of CRT. just don't think the food is worth the price, and I like the princesses at Epcot / Akershus better.

Sounds like the dad's can do some thrill riding while the girls are at BBB :cool1:

Hoping that Juliana's final tests are all good & that's why the dr has not called you back. Very annoying to wait though! Is she feeling better from her fever?

Playing catch-up! :goodvibes

September park hours are now out...so just waiting a while longer...I too wish they would release them further in advance!

I agree that CP, BBB, and CRT is a lot in one day. Unless maybe BBB early morning appointment, followed by CRT breakfast (a better meal there), then CP for dinner - so you have time for rides between breakfast and dinner. Plus, you likely won't be hungry UNTIL dinner after a bigger breakfast!

But that also means no Pooh's Puffed French Toast. ;)

I am very sorry to hear about your Grandfather passing. Your family is my prayers! It's not at all strange that you aren't overly sad - sounds like it was a bit expected, and you knowing he's in a better place and done with complications and pain here on earth does make it easier. Your Grandfather lived an amazing life!!

I was also going to comment about the activities on board! You guys will NOT be bored, don't you worry about that! And oh yes, dip those toes in the pool with a drink in your hand. ::yes::

Have you looked at past Navigators here on the DIS? That can give you some clues to different events. Everything from beer and margarita tastings, to family games, shows, comedians, dance parties, character meet & greets, art shows, karaoke, movies, crafts, the spa, and more! Plus there are the pools and Kids Clubs - which I am sure Juliana will love!

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Hope you are all ok. The pic with four generations is a fab thing to have and 96 is a great age for him to have lived to.

Tim, sorry I missed this yesterday. Things were a little "excited" on my end with our news (yes, I folded and told everyone on my TR).
I hope Markie's g/f doesn't read the DIS.

My comments on meals are in red. Yes, I knew you were going to Florida for Easter. Lucky you.
Jamie & Bill said No to Y&Y. They ate there last year and had a bad experience. I wasn't planning on eating there anyways so it doesn't affect me. I'm looking forward to some FlameTree which I skipped the last 2 times... plus they accept the TIW card! :thumbsup2

Tim, I am so sorry for your loss. But I can understand how you are feeling. It is hard when they reach that age and they aren't the same person anymore. As you said, he is in a better place and with your grandmother now.
Thank you Kathy. I have gotten a lot of support on here today. They finalized the wake and funeral for Wednesday & Thursday.

Thank you for your comforting words. Alzheimer is the worst way to go. I saw my what happened to my grandmother and it was just horrible. I know my grandfather is in good hands with my grandmother at his side.

Thank you Mary Ellen. It is hard but I know he is better off. It was hard seeing him slow down so much.

(I was going to post on your FB but you didn't mention it there at all, so I didn't want to change that. )
I didn't post anything on there because my family was waiting to tell my sister till she got home from work so they didn't upset her.

I hope those number stay true...

Yes. We are bringing our own stroller. They Disney ones look so hard and uncomfortable. I wonder if Christopher will nap in the stroller... Juliana hardly ever did.

I find the touringplans to be very haphazard. I feel like we walk enough during the day without a bunch of back tracking and skipping all over the parks. Joe's method (and it works) is to beeline to the back of whatever park we are at and work our way forward.
I don't follow the touring plan but I try to follow the best park (if I have a choice) I know when I get to MK I am going to spend some time in FantasyLand before anywhere else. It is nice to walk on to Dumbo or Pooh. ;)

Joe sounds like he has a good method.. I might have to steal that when we go without kids someday! :goodvibes

YAY for Florida for Easter!

We are excited but honestly, we haven't even thought about it too much.

I do think that CRT and CP is too much, but (GASP) I am not a fan of CRT. just don't think the food is worth the price, and I like the princesses at Epcot / Akershus better.
When it comes down to it, my likes and dislikes don't matter. It is whatever the princesses want. princess:princess:

Sounds like the dad's can do some thrill riding while the girls are at BBB :cool1:
That is a great idea! ::yes::

Hoping that Juliana's final tests are all good & that's why the dr has not called you back. Very annoying to wait though! Is she feeling better from her fever?
Melody called and left a message at the hospital and we still haven't heard from them. Her fever was gone in 1 day but I brought her to the pediatrician today because she was complaining of an ear ache. There is some fluid in there but it isn't infected. So we are just watching it for now. Thanks for asking. :goodvibes

I just wanted to send my sympathies. You're in my prayers.
Thank you so much.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Hope you are all ok. The pic with four generations is a fab thing to have and 96 is a great age for him to have lived to.
Thank you. He did live a long life. I hope to make it that far someday.

Playing catch-up! :goodvibes
Sounds like me! :lmao:

September park hours are now out...so just waiting a while longer...I too wish they would release them further in advance!
UGH.. so I have to wait 2 more months?????

I have the feeling that all 3 won't be happening in 1 day. IF they are, I won't be part of them. :lmao:

Maybe on our day off we can pop into MK for breakfast. We are going to have a few more meetings to figure out what ADRs we want.

But that also means no Pooh's Puffed French Toast. ;)
AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! :scared1:  :scared1:

Thank you Brook. He was a great man.

I was also going to comment about the activities on board! You guys will NOT be bored, don't you worry about that! And oh yes, dip those toes in the pool with a drink in your hand. ::yes::
I will take a picture of me doing NOTHING on the cruise... hopefully with a drink in hand. ;)

I haven't looked at the Navigators... Looks like I need to do more research. :surfweb:

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing. It sounds like his quality of life was declining. He is in a much better place now, smiling down on your family right next to his love, your grandmother.:group hug:

I'm glad you have the picture of the 4 generations. Such a special memory.

Sorry to hear of your Grandfather's passing. I also like to keep my memories of my loved ones, as they once were. Beautiful picture of the generations.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. As others have said I totally understand where you are coming from. I hope he is at peace now and with his girl by his side.
