Cruising The Canal May 1, 2015 (Roll Call in Post 1)

You are making a great choice here. The 60th stuff should be into soft openings the day we get off the ship in San Diego and it should be the first night of the new firework show. I know a few things about it but that I can't say at all in a public forum. Tune into the net Wednesday night/ Thursday morning to find out. The celebration is going to be big, not as big of the 50th but big. Also a much awaited addition should be premiering on 5/15 to the Haunted Mansion.

Wow, that sounds great. Perhaps we will get the chance to catch up on the ship, then you can tell me more ;) I am so excited for our first trip to Disneyland. We are hoping to go back next summer for a longer trip and take in more of the West Coast with our son. He is so disappointed to be missing out this time.

By the time we get on the ship all the details should be out but I will be more than happy to help you with your trip. There is a big media event at Disneyland on Wednesday in regards to the 60th anniversary. If you go to the Disney parks blog or the Disneyland section here all the details I am sure will be three.

Thank you - I will certainly look for that on Wednesday. And I woudl be very grateful for any help or advice you coudl offer for our first trip. We are tight on time since we are only staying until the Sunday (my DH just couldn't swing any more time off of work) and, although we know WDW inside out and back to front, DL is completely baffling me.

What's baffling you?

What's baffling you?

Everything :rotfl2: We have 3-day tickets, will arrive at some point Friday afternoon (presumably) as we are driving up as soon as we disembark. Because of grad nights I can't figure whether we should avoid the park that grad nights are in (DCA) or whether we should avoid DL since that is where I read most of them will go prior to their private party. I have heard that it is best to utilise EE/EMH and, since we are staying at VGC, we will do that so planning to go to DL on Saturday (early) and DCA Sunday (early). But no idea what is best to do first, what to do about the evening shows (WOC and Fantasmic!) - will we need to get Fastpasses or can we just find somewhere to watch it? Or should we do dining packages? I have made a list of rides and attractions we want to experience but no idea on whether there is a particular order we should do things in. At WDW, I know (for example) that at EPCOT we need to head to Test Track or Soarin' first but not sure which rides get busy quicker at DL/DCA. Should we park hop? Or not? I hear it is easier to hop there, since the parks are right next to each other.

Our flight from LAX is at 5pm Sunday so not sure what time we will need to leave the parks (we will have done online check-in but it's an international flight so should be there at least a couple of hours early, I guess).

That's about it (for now) ;)

Wow that was a lot at once. Ok. Here we go. First off what rides do you want to go on? Since you are a WDW vet I would say make sure to go on things you can't in FL, IE: the Matterhorn, Alice, Storybook and so on. Also my favorite show of all time is our version of Fantasmic. I am very partial to that show. In contrast I HATE!!!!!!!! the WDW version. WOC will be new. Oops I let that cat out of the bag. Well not new just updated for the 60Th. What else?

So, what is the best way to see the two shows - Fantasmic! and WOC? Fastpasses? Dining packages?

OK so let me start by saying I hate the fact that you need a fastpass to enjoy a show, especially Fantasmic. That being said. If you can get a Blue Bayou Fantasmic dining package I would do it. It's really a good deal. The packages for WOC are not that bad either. What about rides?

Oh man, I hope it isn't crowded on Wednesday due to the media event! Is THAT why Disneyland closes weirdly early that day? I'm running up there for the day with my six-year-old for our annual "just the two of us" trip, and we always choose our dates for lower crowds. Still, very excited at the implication that the Hatbox Ghost may be showing up in May! We've had our fingers crossed for that one.

That's why. When it comes to the Hatbox Ghost, I have no idea what you are talking about. What is that? ;)

I plan to go to DL after the cruise for my first DL trip, but because of being on cruise with my aunt who was nervous of flying home by herself (she couldn't extend her vacation) and my friend who can't go to DL until the 19th I will spend three days at home. Airline points helped ease the economic burden of this. I will be doing 4 day park hoppers staying at the Tropicana. I am thankful for your advice aan1701 and VERY excited like you Wilma-bride. I almost am looking forward to DL more than the cruise :)

DH & I along with several friends are all arriving at DL tomorrow for a long weekend. Yaaaaayyyyy!!! Yep, media event shutting down DL early but DCA will be open til 10. Then there's Trader Sam's......

I seriously would consider going back again just to see the Hatbox Ghost. Seriously.

What is this Hatbox Ghost? ;). Enjoy your time there. I might be there on Friday. We will see.

We would really like to book this cruise. So, I've been lurking on this thread. We would also like to go to Disneyland after the cruise.

I looked up Hatbox Ghost, as I had no idea what it was either. Apparently, it is a character that was part of the original Haunted Mansion. At one of the D23 conferences, a new version appeared. I think they are trying to put it back into Haunted Mansion before the 60th celebration.

Hopefully, we will be able to join you on this cruise!

I was being sarcastic hence the ;).

How did I miss that? Ok, so I guess I'm the only one that didn't know!!!
It's ok. It's just one of those things I can't talk about in a public forum. Everything, well almost everything, in regards to the 60th should be revealed tonight at the media event at Disneyland.
