Cruisin' MAYniacs - May 14-17, 2009

Hmm I hadn't thought about the thunderstorm possibility. I was thinking it's May, there won't be ice/snow concerns like we had when we cruised in January three years ago. That's definitely something to think about.

If we switch the flight to Wednesday, it'll probably be a later flight. We can leave KC at 6 pm and arrive in Orlando at 9:40. That means DH could work until noon, and the kids wouldn't have to miss much school. But if it's that late we'll probably just stay somewhere near the airport and head to the port in the morning. Any recommendations there? I'm thinking about Pricelining it. I found another DISer who posted that he got a 2.5 star hotel near the airport for $39. I looked at all the 2.5 star hotels in their list and they all seem adequate for a one night stay - Holiday Inn Express, Hawthorn Suites, Country Inn and Suites, Amerisuites, Residence Inn, and Wingate by Wyndham. They all have a shuttle from the airport, and a continental breakfast that will get us by but not fill us up before we hit lunch onboard.

Thanks,
Jenni

I think staying near the airport is fine! We don't land til almost 10 pm either so maybe we can meet up then! We will be best friends by the time we board! LOL

We are doing chef mickey's at 7:30am so you will have options!

Kat

Jenni....I agree with Kat I think I would come in the day before. The hassle of changing it all will be worth the peace of mind of knowing you will be there on time!

I can't wait to meet everyone!

Shannon

OK you convinced me. The flights have been changed, now I'm checking with the TA, Priceline, and Hotwire for an inexpensive room for the night. Just looking for a place to sleep. Kat will be all full from Chef Mickey's when she gets on board, but I'll have lots of room for my first DCL meal and drinks by the pool

Guess what I got in the mail today?

MY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS!!!
:banana::cool1::banana::cool1::banana:

I'm all for having half the people deliver on one day and the other on the next. We received our FE in the mail yesterday and I was trying to explain to DD what it was for...she thought it was really cool but wondered how she would get her gifts since she wouldn't be on the cruise. :sad2:
She wasn't too thrilled when I explained that ummmmm you don't .

Denise

Lol Denise. Poor kid! No cruise, no FE gifts!

Can I request to be in the group that delivers FE the first day? I don't know if I can wait!

Do we have a semi-formal night on this cruise?

I don't think there is a semi formal unless you are registered for Tritons I believe.. I am bringing a spring dress and shoes, but nothing fancy...

Just checking in and wanting to say hello!!!!:thumbsup2
Can't wait to meet all of you guys:banana:

dsneygirl - I've never cruised Disney, but from what I've read here on the DIS, there's no formal/semi-formal night on the Wonder. There is a "dress up night", and on a Navigator that someone posted I believe it said "optional dress up night". If you have made reservations at Palo, I think it is expected that diners will dress up a little more for that location.

Now I just have to say:

We leave two weeks from today!
:cool1::yay::woohoo::banana::thumbsup2

Is that smilie abuse lol?

Jenni

Hey all,

We will be dressing nice for all dinners (springy dresses, etc) - we just like to get dressed up!!

We leave a week from Saturday. Holy Moly I'm getting nervous now. I have to get my FE gifts ... have to pack the box and ship it ... pack myself and my son. Spent most of the weekend preparing our boat for the water (goes in this weekend ... can't wait!) and switching out the winter/summer clothes and getting Gabi packed.

Soooo, this weekend ... is IT! I also still have to do our door magnets too. :scared1:

It will all get done ... I will be caffeined out and tired but it will get done!!

Kat

I am excited too... Need to finish packing, the 7th is coming fast!!!

I am going to start packing today when I get home. I want to try to get as much as I can packed today so I can see if there is anything else I need to pick up this weekend.

Trying not to wait till the last minute.....we'll see!!!! :lmao:

I've got a sundress and Khakis and polos for DS.

I haven't even thought about what to wear to ress up. We'll be the slackers wearing capris and polos the first two nights (if we make it to the dining room at all) but I may be able to wrangle my family into dressing up one night. They just don't feel like vacation is a time they want to get all dressed up.:confused3

I talked to my TA and we are officially staying at the Radisson Resort at the Port Wednesday night. I was going to stay near the airport, but the towncar service they booked for me won't pick you up in the morning to take you to the port until 11:00 or so. Part of the reason for changing our flight and coming in Wednesday was to get there a little early and enjoy the port, check into the kids club, etc. So to make a long story short, they're going to take us to the port Wednesday night. We can sleep a little later the next day. All this researching and changing plans has been just what my type-A planner personality needed!

Jenni,

YAY! Good for you!! I was wondering what you were going to do!! You won't regret it. We have breakfast at Chef Mickey's at 7:30 ... and then we will leave for the port around 9 ... get there just before 10am when they open.
