If any of you own a timeshare you know you just can't *go* to your timeshare...there is a requirement..."thou must attend a timeshare presentation, deal with pain and receive something in return". Now, this time we actually *did* want to go to a presentation because Marriott is changing how they do timeshares. It used to be that you bought a week and could trade it...etc. But then Disney along with a few others, came along with the point system. So now rather than buying a week at one particular resort you buy points and can use those points to stay at a resort. There are certain advantages to this...and certain disadvantages.
More importantly Marriott offered us $100 Disney dollars to go.
Does anyone know if they actually have Disney Dollars anymore? We got gift cards. That's fine and all, but I remember the Disney Dollars as being too cool. Probably too expensive...but they are a souvenir in and of themselves. Just sayin'. But I digress...
I'm all about bribery so we took them up on their offer. We signed up at 7:45, no intention to buy anything additional, it was supposed to take 90 minutes. Ouch. Yeah...but of course it didn't take 90 minutes, it took 3 hours. This woman was a talker. She is one of their best sales people, and...well I did have some questions. DW will vouch for that. But I needed to understand how this was going to affect our timeshare! She definitely didn't want to let us off the hook. My favorite part is when they leave you to discuss it. They take forever coming back...like it's going to change our mind. Ah well...anyway we left without buying anything, grabbed our Disney gift cards and headed out. Today the real destination was Typhoon Lagoon. We had not gone to a Disney waterpark for quite some time...and frankly I don't even remember ever going. If DW didn't assure me that we did I wouldn't have known it. Short term memory issues. HA!
Because we were going to a water park we needed towels...so we headed to...
Walmart.

I know, I know. I swore we would never go back. But frankly I'm not sure if it was the same one...and DW didn't write it in her journal (so clearly it's not my fault

). See short term memory issues above.
We found some cheap towels (check that...I found cheap towels!

yeah! anytime I can find things cheaper than DW I'm in good shape!

And it was off to grab the boys. Yes we left them at the timeshare. This is the advantage of having a 12 year old (12.5 if you are really worried). Nice to be able to trust them to stay in one spot so they don't have to be entertained while we check out a timeshare.
Here is another thing maybe all of you (well, all two of you that actually *post* on my report) can explain. When they are left alone while we are gone they are on their best behavior. I honestly don't think we have ever come home from having left them alone (and I'm talking hours here, not days or overnight or anything, so put down the phone and don't call CPS (Child Protective Services). Really, put it down! Now! Ahem, anyway...) and had tattling about how one was mean to the other. Yet when we are at home with them they tend to be at each others throats.
Then again, we have our dog. Yes, I'm about to compare our dog to my kids. Clearly I'm not winning the parent of the year award. We moved back to California (which all of you should know if you read the whole TR. You didn't? Well go back and read. Now. I'll wait. Ho hum....hmmmmm hi ho, hi ho...it's off to work...what? your back? ok. My sister in law lives here with her little white fluffball of a dog to go with my little white fluffball of a dog. We actually stayed with them for a few weeks when we moved here and when we were home these dogs went at it wrestling non-stop. But I'm 99% sure that as soon as the door closed they looked at each other and said "And we are clear. nice job everyone, take 10". So dogs and kids. I may never understand. Again I digress. Wow, that was a serious one too.
As it was around lunchtime we figured we would get something to eat prior to going into the park since we didn't make our lunch on this day. Being in Orlando there are lots of exotic choices for lunch...lots of places to eat that you just can't find anywhere. Being good tourists that would be the way to go. We went to Taco Bell. I mean, sometimes you just have to think outside the bun (bong).
After loading up on plenty of food so that we can make our own hot tub in the water park we were off! We drove in and had to park way up in the auxiliary parking lot on the grass. This is never a good sign. Alas we were not getting there when the park opened so we can't complain! Again, our Disney mojo is taking a hit!
We scanned our tickets and headed in. We needed a locker so I went to do that. The prices were pretty good for lockers, I think I paid $15, and $5 was refundable when you brought your key back. For Disney that's not all bad!
While I was doing the heavy lifting, DW and the boys found Stitch. Stitch has been Connor's favorite for years. Not sure why he switched from Donald Duck (which was his favorite in the early years) to Stitch, but given his personality, I have to say it's the right change.
Both Boys hang 10 with Stitch
Connor gets some alone time
As does Nick. Connor has not figure out how to do the hand thingy. Hang Loose? I clearly am not the cool Dad that I think I am!
Now was time to hit the slides. As I mentioned before I don't remember ever being at the water parks...but I have to say it was very fun. From moment 1 the kids wanted to go in the wave pool. We didn't...saying that we wanted to do that when it got too crowded. We went on Humunga Kowabunga which was a big drop (though nothing compared to the other water park...oooh, foreshadowing! Connor, being...well...Connor, was freaked out until he went on the slide...and then he enjoyed it. That's just how he is! Next was Keelhaul Falls, Mayday Falls, and then Crush 'n' Gusher. Crush 'n' Gusher is just like the Aquaduck for all of you
Disney Cruise type people. Except it's longer so that makes it a bit more fun.
We got some great pics here...
DW and Connor Cruise off the slide....
and drift calmly accross the pool.
Nick and I cruise off the slide...
And calmly fall into the pool. It's what I get for carrying the extra 20 pounds around. OK, ok, it's 40...but who's counting, I'm on Vacation!
After that we granted the kids' wish to go to the wave pool. Not something I was really excited about because, to me, water parks are about the water slides and I kind of viewed the wave pool as being a waste of time. Yes, I'm the party pooper...the pooper of the party.
While we had been riding we had heard the sounds of the wave machine, and heard people cheering. We didn't know what the cheering was about.
When we went into the wave pool we waded out and tried to find a clear spot to hang out, which we did. Nick, of course, wanted to go all the way to the front...but we convinced him to stay by us. Then we heard the sound of the wave...kind of a whoosh sound and the first wave was headed out way. It was nice and calm. DW thought that was perfect...but apparently no one else did as everyone in the pool started booing. It was actually kind of funny. We didn't know we would have to rank the waves!
