Cruisin' a DREAM and WDW July 2-July 15th TR updated 1/25:Final Entry! page 15

All modes of transport are currently experiencing delays. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Oh, go ahead, it's okay if you tell everyone you wouldn't be able to go on without my comedic banter with you and that life just wouldn't be the same. :goodvibes

..if no one posts I get very pouty. It drives DW insane!

Um.....you don't really need to tell us that! :littleangel:

Thanks everyone, new episode is coming soon! Really!

I find it necessary, based on past performance, and my legal background, to advise everyone not to hold their breath. Everyone's definition of "coming soon" is not always the same. ;)

OMG, you know him too well...I don't know if I should be scared or not!:scared1: However, I think you may get one sooner, rather than later...I think he is done with the football videos from this weekend, so he can spend some time doing his most important job...this TR:thumbsup2

but, if you do: Please stand clear of the doors...Por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas, and keep your hands and arms in the ride vehicle at all times.

Anyway, since I wasn't told how long I was to be in the doghouse, I guess I'm free and clear. And, really, why use the firehydrant when the tree in the background had more cover???

HeyyCali, your 2 year old is the perfect age. They're free before they're three!!!

Took both of our kids when the were each approximately 2 1/2. Whole different take on the world through their eyes. I remember taking my son downstairs, putting him in his stroller and turning off the lights and running around and around in the basement to get him used to what a ride might be like. He laughed and laughed. Can't go without prepping them. Played Disney songs and videos. Really indoctinated him well. Did the same with my daughter as we got ready to take her.

Disnyzell, I too like AK. Love the atmosphere and enjoy the rides that are there. I still have not seen all of the animals that are there.

Did you check out the pipes above the Dinosaur ride cars? The yellow, red, and white ones. They have some chemical formulas on them. They are the (basic) chemical equations for ketchup, mustard and mayonaise. I love the little things.

For the real geeks:

Red Pipe: Ketchup
■Lycopersicon lycopericum (should be Lycopersicon lycopersicum) = tomato
■C6H12O6 = Sugar or Corn Syrup
■CH3COOH = Vinegar
■(C6H12O6) = Another Sugar (part of the symbol is blocked by the pipe clamp)
■NaCl = Salt
■Allium cepa = Onion

Yellow Pipe: Mustard
■CH3COOH = Vinegar
■H2O = Water
■Brassica juncea = Mustard Plant
■NaCl = Salt
■Curcuma Longa = Turmeric
■Allium sativum = Garlic

White Pipe: Mayonnaise
■Glycine soja = Soybean Oil
■Ovae = refers to Egg, in this case Egg yolks
■CH3COOH = Vinegar
■H2O = Water
■NaCl = Salt
■C6H12O6 = Sugar (or Corn Syrup)
■Citrus limon = Lemon Juice

And due to dededisney legal background, I credit Jamie Collins who posted this on another web site.

Oh, have no fear, Fig, it was merely a threat to leave in order to get some action. As DZ knows from his prior TR......I stick around for the duration....no matter how long that may take. However, should it extend into next March, I won't stick around as I'm not missing my WDW vaca and cruise!

PS......you'll need to re-read to see who exactly has the legal background. :rolleyes1

It's so beautiful!

Didn't mean to offend QuiltTeddy.

Therefore: Forthwith, heretofor, in absentia, I shall attempt not to misconstrue or malpropate any previous posts, but only as the party of the first part, not the second part, or any other parts. Yeah, but you've all seen my posts, there's no way I'm not gonna' screw something up in the future. (And hopefully, this post will be taken as it is intended).

Disclosure: this post is meant to create a smile or chuckle, smirk or similar display of amusement by the reader and only to demean, or poke fun at myself and no other person, place, or thing.

Now, we really need to move on with this TR -- I want to see if I photobombed any of DisneyZell's pictures!

OMG, Fig.....you certainly did NOT offend me....I was merely "giving it back" to you (and thought I said it with the right humor. *blushes* )

See what happens when we are left too long to amuse ourselves waiting for the ever elusive TR?

ah...er...um...she did take me on a cruise in a trunk. That probably explains it. And I wasn't quite done with my football videos. Essentially I have three jobs...my job which actually pays the bills, my football editing job (I do recruiting videos for high school football players interested in playing at the next level, but I also film the games for the local high school, and Nick's team as well so there is editing there as well), and finally my TR.

That's classic Disney. I had not noticed that but will pay attention to it the next time I'm there. It's funny how there are so many little things...the back stories...on all the rides that are really interesting. and yeah..it was QuiltTeddy that invoked the "DZ won't get his TR done in this lifetime" legal clause! :)

I'd like to point out, however, that my 2008 Christmas Cruise TR was completed in Spring 2011. So really, I'm chugging along quickly. Besides, I did TWO episodes last week! :)

LOL!! nice. I have no idea what you said. I know you are talking...but it just doesn't make sense. :) Little Dory reference.

And now...with not further ado...on with the TR. Maybe.

Thanks everyone for your posts. :) Keep 'em comin'!

Today we are headed to Blizzard Beach. As we aren't hitting a park we decide to sleep in. Notice that has become a habit here. I guess that's when you know you are getting older...when you don't feel like you have to be the first on at every single park. Or maybe it's just be getting older. Or more senile. I'm sorry, what was I saying?

Anyhooo....we all finally got up around 9am. That is actually early for me. :thumbsup2 We ate and headed off to Blizzard Beach. As you all know, we had thoroughly enjoyed Typhoon Lagoon...so we were looking forward to another good day. We got there a little after 10...got our locker to shove everything into, and headed to Teamboat Springs...which IS the worlds longest family raft ride. I don't know who told you guys that the longest one is at Typhoon Lagoon. Whoever that nutty guy was should walk the plank. Well....maybe he will in a few days. :)

Anyway, this is one not to miss. It was quite fun. Actually the most frustrating part...and the part that didn't make any sense to me was a lack of photopass person at the end of this one. This is a logical picture spot...families...pictures...money....Normally Disney is good at the money thing but I think they missed the boat on this one...er the raft anyway. :lmao:

The best part was that unlike the family raft ride at TL (Typhoon Lagoon...obviously I'm going to do some comparisons here and I'm tired of writing out Typhoon Lagoon over and over again. It's long, and I'm lazy. So while I do try to help you guys out, particularly Figment who is getting up in age, by writing out the whole thing...wait...what was I talking about?), there was no line (bet you had to go back and read the beginning of that sentence to have that make sense, eh? That's the problem as I continue to digress while writing...wait, where am I. why am I here again?). We love it when there is no lines (maybe I have two personalities fighting for control...muhahahaha).

Then we headed over to the Toboggan racers, the downhill double dipper (which had a longer wait), and the Snow Stormers...the racers and Stormers were fun because you could start out at the same time and race to the bottom. Unlike the Toy Story Ride which just didn't want to work for me (don't believe it when DW tells you I'm lying), I have a distinct advantage here. Yes, beached whales do well in downhill water racing. Not only do I go faster, I go further so I get to have more fun. :yay: Eventually I do need to go on a diet...but I'm an eater. I am. DW will confirm. I tried to go on a diet last week...it lasted a day. My birthday is tomorrow...so maybe after this weekend I'll try again. I can't go on a diet the weekend of my BD (Figment, that is Birthday). Especially since we can't go out to celebrate tomorrow night (Nick's football practice), Friday night (I'm filming the high school football game), or Saturday night (Nick's team always goes out for pizza after the game). So clearly I'll be eating poorly until at least next Monday.

Huh...looking like another section not relevant to all of you. I'm sorry to have put you through that. :thumbsup2

Next we headed to Runoff Rapids. There were two places to go down off of this one...you could do the two person way and go in the open slide, or you can do one person and do an enclosed slide. We did the logical thing and did both. Boy, this was a serious workout too, you had to climb..and climb...and climb to get to the top. Carrying your tube of course. The only really good thing, though, was that there were plenty of tubes at the bottom...no waiting for someone to make it down before you headed up like some of other rides.

Another side note. Yeah...I know. I *think* it was on the BB day (Blizzard Beach...keep up!) that the Shuttle was launching for the last time (DW did not write it in her journal, so blame her! :) Wait, don't do that...or she will start being like Quiltteddy and threatening to take the first mode of transportation out of here! ;)). We knew about it, and they were announcing over the loudspeaker that it was coming up. Unfortunately they went from "The Shuttle is launching in 10 minutes" to "The shuttle is taking off" in about 30 seconds. We were not, unfortunately, in a good spot to watch...and we were told that up by the front was the best place to see it. But we were pretty far from there so we ran up the stairs of Runoff Rapids (the ones that kept going and going and going). We got to the top...but we were too late. We then had to listen to the kids blaming us for missing it. Ah kids! :) Luckily there were tubes at the top of the ride too (not sure why), so we grabbed some of those and rode down to the bottom.

Next we headed over toward the big Behemoth....Summit Plummet...which I think is the longest drop in the world for water slides. Rather than walking...you can actually take a chairlift. I'm a big fan of that! We learned rather early that rather than wait in the long line and going as a group we would just join the single rider line and get on really fast. Unless you have a young child that can't handle this...I recommend it highly! We got to the top...Nick was the only one willing to do Summit Plummet, DW, Connor and I went on Slush Gusher. Slush Gusher was steep as well, but had two hills. This one was alot of fun....you caught a little bit of air as you went over each hill which was cool.

Photo0368FourBySix.jpg
Nick at the top of Summit Plummet

Photo0370FourBySix.jpg
And at the bottom!

Nick absolutely LOVED Summit Plummet. Loved it. He's a little nutty. I don't know where he got that from. :rolleyes1

Next we hit the wave pool. Yes the kids were bugging us to do it...and so we finally said yes. Unfortunately this one was not as good, and probably more like what I expected out of TL. This one just had a bunch of waves going back and forth...finding tubes was next to impossible...so I definitely didn't like this as much...and fell more into the waste of time category.

Photo0362FourBySix.jpg
But we did get a picture. :thumbsup2 Note I am wearing my swim shirt so none of you get blinded. It is a DIS requirement.

After that we headed to the lazy river. Why, you ask, is the lazy river not a waste of time while the wave pool is? I'm glad you asked. There is an easy simple answer to that question...and it is in the name of what it is. *lazy* river. I am nothing if not lazy. So this is right up my alley! Kick back...float along...get harassed by your 9 year old (well, he was still 8, but almost there!). And there is a photopass person in the water!

Photo0381FourBySix.jpg
Aren't we cute???

After we made it around once Nick convinced us to go and try Summit Plummet. DW and Connor were not really interested...DW is afraid of heights...so the thought of doing this made her queasy. We headed over to the chairlift and jumped in line. The way we did this was I'd go first so that we had an adult at each end (oh, we were doing the single rider thing again...you probably needed to know that!). So I got on...Then a couple chairs later Nick got on and then Connor. We all made it to the top...and waited...and waited...and waited and suddenly there were no people coming up. We waited some more...and then finally DW arrived. Apparently after we all got on they decided to shut the lift down because there was lightning in the area. Something about a big metal chairlift that apparently some people worry about electricity in the air. :) DW stated her case...saying that her whole family had gone up...and could they at least let us know...so then they let her on as the final rider. Apparently a few other folks tried that route too, but DW was the only one that convinced them that it was necessary!

We all got in the long time for Summit Plummet. Which is great because you get lots and lots of time to think about what the heck you are about to do...and you climb higher...and higher. To be honest I was a little freaked out by it. But of course I was careful not to show it...must be strong for 8 year old! We kept seeing lightning in the distance and DW was hopeful! A CM came walking down and she even asked....but no such luck. It starts getting really windy at the top too. Finally it was time for us to go. Nick led the way...followed by DW. It's a bit freaky...you see them and then they just drop over the edge.

Photo0396FourBySix.jpg
DW at the top. Holy crap, this is the first time I've looked closely at these pictures. DW's face is priceless! :)

Photo0398FourBySix.jpg
DW at the bottom

Connor was next...I kept expecting him to back out. The photopass guy even made a comment about how it was a little guy. But he crossed his arms and away he went.

Photo0401FourBySix.jpg
Connor at the top...see how small he is??

Photo0404FourBySix.jpg
Connor at the bottom...he barely made it out of the slide he stopped so far back!

By this point my heart is pounding...obviously I'm going to do this...but DW will tell you I'm not a big fan of drops. I don't have issues with height...but rides that just drop straight down aren't my favorite things (well, except TOT...that rocks). I'm also not a big fan of log rides...I mean...no seat belts. That can't be safe! So here I am...straight drop...and no seat belt.

Deep breath, cross my arms...up goes the safety bar and away I go! Whoa! What a rush! It was really, really fun. The only part I don't like about it is that you actually move faster than the water coming down...and it starts to hurt. My buns felt like I had a 30 minute buns of steel workout. Maybe that's a way to get in shape. Huh...I'll have to think about that...

Photo0406FourBySix.jpg
Here I am at the top...

Photo0408FourBySix.jpg
and at the bottom...you can read my expression...what the...where am I? who am I?

At this point we decided to leave and go get something for lunch. It was about 1:30 or so. As we were walking toward out locker the sky opened up and absolutely brought the cats and dogs (and probably some birds) down on top of us. It was crazy. We grabbed out stuff, turned in our key and made the dash for the car. Whew! That was crazy. We picked up a gourmet lunch at McDonald’s and headed back to the timeshare to eat.

We didn't have any plans for the rest of the day...but we *did* need to get a cooler to bring my beer onto the ship...woohoo! So we left the kids behind and headed to target to get a cooler. Once we got back we hung out for a while and headed to get dinner at Steak N Shake. But we also needed to get the kids' hair cut. I mapped out one of the chain haircut places...and headed there. When we arrived it was a 45 minute wait. Uh...no. So we headed the general direction of SNS (ha! did you get that one. Steak N Shake!). Then I saw a barber shop. Perfect for them since all they get is buzz cuts...so we pulled in. This seemed like a great idea...and then we walked in. This wasn't your grandpa's barber shop. It was a hip-hop barber shop. But we were already there...and so what the heck. They were just getting buzz cuts anyway, right? So they took them both and did the deed...and they did a great job...except they did some crazy trimming....I just don't know how to explain it.

Photo0412FourBySix.jpg
This is a picture from the next day...but you can kinda see what I mean

Their sideburns were pointy...stuff like that. It looked very clean...but they looked like hip hop kids. :)

So off to Steak N Shake...I love that place. Dinner and then back to the villa to pack. Saturday we were checking out and headed over to prepare for the cruise...but we did have one more day at the parks...which would it be??

Next up: Day 7: the happiest place on earth? and what the...why are all these people here???

Nice job, Drew...I knew I would get called out about not talking about the shuttle launch in my journal. Well, as you say, you get what you pay for! I would highly recommend Summit Plummet for anybody. It was so much fun...and yes I hate heights! I don't like looking over the railing at the mall if you catch my drift! I still can't believe I did it, but am very glad I did...couldn't disappoint the kiddos!

ah...er...um...she did take me on a cruise in a trunk. That probably explains it.

Um...a....well....didn't think you were disclosing everything from that trunk trip....

...and yeah..it was QuiltTeddy that invoked the "DZ won't get his TR done in this lifetime" legal clause! :)

I'd like to point out, however, that my 2008 Christmas Cruise TR was completed in Spring 2011. So really, I'm chugging along quickly. Besides, I did TWO episodes last week! :)

Ya.....my point exactly....I could be back from my March, 2012 cruise on the Dream before you finish this one, at the rate you are going. :rolleyes1

QT doesn't offend easily. If she did, she CERTAINLY would not be continuing to post on my TR.

DZ

That's good. Perfect in fact! Don't let them know you've paid me quite handsomly to help keep them coming back for more. ;)

I feel so welcome and accepted. I don't offend easily either. I just sometimes don't think (too much) before I type or say anything. I do a most of my stuff between breaks at work. Sometimes I see what I posted later, and don't really remember saying it the way it was written. Oh well, it's work, duck and cover and keep going quickly.

Keep the report coming. I'm lovin' all of it.

Now, quiltteddy, don't be posting those pizza pictures on this TR...I am going to have to clean up the drool from the keyboard now. You know how Drew loves his pizza! Yesterday it was his b-day...and you know what he wanted for lunch??? Costco pizza! Lucky for us, he doesn't have expensive taste!

Welllllll, I thought perhaps I could entice him to get his butt in gear and get this TR moving! I mean, he doesn't even check back to see that people are following along.

Also sounds like he's as cheap a date as I am.....half a glass of wine for me and I'm done. :rotfl:

You bet. Costco pizza is the best. it's cheap...and one of the better ones out there too. for $2.48 you can have a delicious lunch and drink! and you can have as much soda as you want. What is better than that?

I'm feeling pressured! I know, we are almost on the ship and everyone wants my opinion...all 3 of you. DW already knows.

it's on it's way!

so my apologies for taking so long to post. Real life does get in the way sometimes! My recruiting video stuff took up a lot of time in the last week. Speaking of which if you know any high school athletes looking for someone to do their recruiting video, send 'em my way! how's that for a plug. But I digress.

I will also apologize, not a lot of photos for this last day in Disneyworld. But lots of interesting family interactions that you most likely don't really need to see but get to because it's free with the price of admission! :)

But before I get going, a wonderful thing just happened. I was actually about 1/2 way through the report when I read the words "took a pic w/ green army men" in DW's lovely journal. Huh. But I don't have a picture of us with the green army men. I looked and looked...nope, nothing. I asked DW about it and she remembered...we did not bring a camera on this 5th day...but I did have my droid! Pictures! A couple anyway. One of them is in the barber shop from my last episode.

2011-07-08_18-47-40_476.jpg
When I look at this picture I'm thinking one of two things. 1. Nick is getting his head shaved to go into the army or, 2. Nick is getting his head shaved in prison. I don't know why these two things pop into my head...but they do! :scared1:

It is now Saturday July 7th for those of you who haven't been keeping track. We board the Dream on Sunday...so this is our last day. As it is the 5th day of parks we get to pick which park to go to...and we decided to go back to Hollywood Studios. We were psyched...going to get up early and hit all of the rides we love...so we got up at 7am (if you have been following along you know I'd say *ouch* at this point!) loaded up the car and checked out. We got to the park at 8am, intending to be the first ones in line...nice! Er....not...what the. Why are there a lot of cars in the parking lot already? And why so many Disney Bus’s coming and going?

We are planners...we always know what is going on...so this couldn't be...oh no...early magic hours at Hollywood Studios. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!! We always check that! Always. Except today. We didn't check it today. Our plans were blown out of the water. Of course now that I am writing this I'm not sure why we didn't just go to another park and open that one up. Huh...good question if you asked that!

We also had planned to meet a friend of mine that actually works at Disney...at 12:30, so we had to get our rides in early!

So we got to sit around and watch person after person after person just stroll on into HS. This is a very sad experience if you got there early just to open up the park. But it is obviously a nice perk if you stay on property. Unfortunately we rarely stay on property. It's like they are out to get us or something!

Finally our time came...we got in and, of course, headed straight over to Toy Story to get our fast passes. The time we had? 11:50. It was going to be close, but we hoped that we could make it happen. We headed on over to Tower of Terror...taking pictures along the way.

Aren't we cute?

And scared! note that we mixed up the shirts on this day. Yes...yes, I'm here all week!

We rode Tower of Terror twice and went over to Rockin Roller Coaster to use our fastpasses from a few days before when the ride shut down. We had 6 fast passes (do the math on that...two people are going to be screwed! just kidding!). So all 4 of us jumped on, and then I figured we could send a couple through the single rider line while the other two used the FP's. Being the gentlemen that I am I let DW take the FPs and Nick and I jumped in the single rider line. It's funny, at first it doesn't seem like they are going to keep track of you..and then they do...they force you into a separate line and they are quite clear that you will *not* ride with someone you know. No biggie.

Ironically we actually made it onto the ride before DW and Connor. Probably 5-8 minutes faster. pretty funny. So that's a good option for you if you are willing to ride on your own. The pictures aren't as good that way! :)

Next we headed over to try for Star Tours...but the line was 30 minutes. Unfortunately this means we did not get a chance to go on it a second time and see if the ride really is different each time. I've heard that it is but...

Instead we headed over to the animation building which is usually pretty interesting. The kids did a couple of the kiosks which were pretty fun, and then we were going to watch the animation show....and it all went downhill.

What you guys had not witnessed due to the magic of editing was Nick and Connor getting on each others nerves and fighting a lot. If you rent the extended version DVD of our TR you will get to see the footage that was cut out.

As we were waiting they decided to fight again. I had had it. I was so sick of the two of them fighting I told them we were done and headed out of the park at a brisk pace...with them begging and pleading the entire way how good they will be blah....blah...blah.

I, of course, had no intention of leaving as I wanted to do some rides. :) But they sure didn't know that and we made it almost all the way out before I stopped and we talked about it. So we made a deal. If they fought anytime for the rest of our vacation they would lose XBOX for 6 months. This is a big deal for those of you who do not have children addicted to XBOX. It is also a big deal for me because I'm addicted to XBOX and it's not as much fun to play without the kids. :)

So we stayed...headed over to the Muppets 3d. By the way, the kids did manage to not fight the rest of vacation. So perhaps next time I'll threaten that at the very beginning of the vacation....it might save my jangles nerves which were already on edge because of all the house stuff!

We still had some time before our Toy Story time, but headed over to Pixar Place anyway. We took a picture with the green army men...I think I had mentioned before that the last time we were there we had tried to do the same...and ended up getting escorted onto Toy Story instead of the picture. This time no such luck! But we did get the picture...

Must be Army that Nick signed up for! :)

We grabbed a popcorn and a drink and waited for a bit longer...finally getting to go on Toy Story. I, apparently, really, really suck at picking out cars because mine had issues again. It would only aim at the bottom...no matter what I did. Maybe I'm just making excuses for losing...maybe I'm a bit psychotic....or maybe the darn things just don't like me! Nick won that one...I'll give him that! apparently I don't let him win enough...but more on that later if I remember. It has to do with shuffleboard...so if I forget you guys can ask. :)

We had to hustle to make it to Downtown Disney to meet my friend so off we went. When we were almost at DTD we got a text that they were running late...so we didn't need to hurry. We hit a few shops and hung out until they arrived. We met them at Earl of Sandwich (yum again! this time I got th BLT. I'll never get another sandwich there. I'm very loyal to my choice in food, just ask DW). My friend's family looked great, I had not seen him in a while so it was good to catch up.

After lunch we decided to go ahead and head over to cocoa beach and check into our hotel for the night. After the timeshare, of course, it was tiny. That's the bad thing about doing the timeshare first! But we relaxed and read for a bit, just hanging out. At 5 we headed out to Fishlips for dinner, a place I believe recommended on these boards. If you go there, go upstairs to the bar...you can sit outside right along the water which is very cool, as it is the place the cruise ships go past.

While we were sitting there we saw the Dream sail out to sea...wait a minute, we are going on the dream tomorrow! that's not right...oh yeah, it was the Carnival Dream. Big ship! But not a Disney ship! :)

Nick and Connor in Fishlips

We also saw some dolphins and Nick even saw a manatee. The food was ok...I wouldn't say it was fantastic but the view was tremendous...so that made up for alot.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped and got some pineapple juice so Deanna could have a Crazy Porcupine (so named by Nick on our February cruise...Pineapple juice and Malibu rum. If you didn't read my other TR you should...but basically it wasn't named on the menu...and Nick decided it needed a name...there you go!), and a deck of cards. Connor found a space coast t-shirt so we got that for him...yes we are great parents.

Headed back to the hotel...read and off to sleepyby land. We were very excited for our next day...our first steps on the Dream!

Thanks for muddling through with me...but we have finally made it. Next up...
