We booked 2 rooms, 2 people per room, for a Sept/ 3 night cruise. Booked a guaranteed category 11, paid cash @$379 per person, and got upgraded to two category 7 navigators veranda rooms. I just looked in the members guidebook...and if we had booked those upgraded rooms on points it would have been 420 points. Even without the upgrade it would have been 284 points. I know this is not a true analysis, but for a family that only gets 150 points a year, in our case, I think we got a great deal paying cash and booking a guaranteed room. By the way, we had an awesome time.;)

did you know you were getting the up grade before you went or when you were checking in:boat:

You did great on the cruise paying cash. It seems that the points don't give you as much value on the DCL,. good choice. THey say you should just use points at the DVC resorts. Any experience with the other Disney resorts? I have just bought at the SSR so am a newbie.

at DVC resorts. When we received our cruise docs almost 2 weeks out, our upgraded room #'s were in them. The cabins were awesome, we fell in love with them!

I wonder if anyoen has ever gotten a cabin upgrade from using points?

i have read when you get there to check in, you can ask if you can upgrade your cat and pay cash for the difference if the cats. are available whether you used points or paid cash:chat:

I understand that "complimentary" upgrades on DCL are very rare for anyone. We cruised DCL in July using points. We booked a category 9 and when we checked in at the terminal I asked if there were any upgrades to purchase. For $350 we got a category 5 room. What a deal!

Cruising on points is a personal opinion. If you can afford to pay cash for the cruise and still make good use of your DVC points, then cash is the way to go. For our family, cruising on points was a great decision. We just bought more points when we got back to ensure that we would have enough points to cruise again in the near future.

Was that a single $350 charge for the stateroom (Not $350/each) - that's a fantastic deal you got! :earseek: WTG
