I have a cruise "on hold" with dcl, but my mom can book thru Marriott and use her points to upgrade us to verandah. If I just don't pay the deposit on the dcl hold does it just fall off my account? Just want to make sure there is no penalty for not making the deposit and letting the hold go..

The hold will automatically cancel with no penalty. I've done this many times when I've been undecided!

Just wondering, but was this an on board booking/hold?

If so, you don't have to pay a deposit?

Trying to plan out my second cruise, which I'm hoping to reserve on the first....

Is there some reason not to cancel the reservation if you know you won't be using it? This would free up the room for someone else to book.

I don't see a button to cancel it or I would.. As soon as my mom books her Marriott ressie I would have no prob cancelling it.. If anyone can tell me how.. If not it will fall off in 2 days.

On board bookings are different. They require a deposit and are not held. This is because the OBB gives you a discount and if the cruise is a 7 plus night cruise, you get OBC at the time of booking onboard.
Booking online will get you a 3 day hold with no deposit, but no OBC or discount.

Thank you for the clarification!!

Also, if you are not sure of when you want to sail, you can book a placeholder for $250.00 ( I think they raised that amount from 200.00) :)

If they don't have your cc information than why would you think they could charge you a penalty fee?

They did raise it! It is called a Future Cruise Credit and they will charge it to your CC on file if you have one tied to your shipboard account. It took less than 2 minutes to do the last time we sailed, he just asked for our room number and whether or not we wanted a Travel Agent noted on it. :)
