Ok folks, I need some assistance. We're going on a cruise out of Miami in May and I'm wondering what is the best way for us to get from the Port of Miami to the Miami airport after we get off the ship.

Should we get a taxi? Is there any risk of not being able to get one?

Should we get a private car? Does anyone recommend a service?

Should we arrange for a shuttle? Does anyone recommend a service?

There will either be 4, 6 or 7 of us that require transportation. There are at least 6 of us going but I don't know if 2 of them will required transportation to the airport of if they are staying in Miami for another day or so. There is also one other person that I'm trying to convince to go. That's why it is unknown how many, at this point, will need transportation.

There are a lot of taxis available outside, you may need to take two unless there is a van type taxi. One year we disembarked, following the instructions of RCCL and we were cutting it way too close to risk taking the shuttle that we had "paid" for. We snagged a taxi and I think the fare was around $20. I complained to RCCL and I got $100 off per person on the next cruise. That was worth it to me. ;) As a suggestion, tell the desk that your flight is at least an hour before it actually departs.

We have cruised a few times from Miami. I highly recommend taking a taxi or 2 if necessary. It is about $20 PER TAXI to the pier and same for return trip. Way less than the shuttle and you don't have to wait for others before departing. I do suggest going a day early in order to avoid potentiallly missing the ship. Also, don't book a flight home before noon, as sometimes disembarkation can take quite a while. Hope you enjoy your cruise!!!

Cruising is my other favorite vacation, aside from WDW!!!!

We are coming into Miami on Friday and the cruise departs on Saturday. It returns the next Saturday. Our flight back home is at 3pm. It is this trip to the airport that I'm concerned about. So, it looks like you all think that just grabbing a taxi is better than pre-arranging a shuttle or private car - both timewise and economics wise.

I'm fine with a taxi and the expense ($20 per car). I was mostly concerned with actually being able to get one. Are there just loads of them queued up waiting for folks that need a ride? I was worried that there might be so many people wanting a taxi that we may not get one. But, it sounds like this is not a worry. Correct?

The port will be zany with people arriving for the next cruise and all the folks on yours leaving. Best bet is to find a porter and "grease the wheels of progress" and you will get a taxi in no time. ($10 should do it).

A taxi to the pier is the way to go. There are tons both to and from the airport. You'll have no problems.

Your flight is later, disembarkation takes place according to flight times. I always tell the cruise line that my flight is actually earlier than it is. There really is no need to rush. There will be no problem getting a cab since people are getting off of the ship at varying times anyway. I have never needed to give a porter $10 just to get a cab unless he was helping me with my luggage anyway.

I always take cruise line transfers but a cab will work fine too..
