Cruise/DVC stay June/July 2022

Well we have booked a 4 night cruise on the Disney Wish for June 27th to July 1st.
Will back that up with DVC stay from July 1st to the 5th.

with July 4th falling on Monday after the cruise the timing worked out too great to pass up even though usually prefer doing cruise after disney trip.

Have been to disney for halloween, thanksgiving, christmas and New years

Now get to add July 4th to the holiday trip list in 2022

No. I never use DVC points to cruise. Did it once very early in my ownership of DVC. Quickly learned that you are really waiting points and not getting their full value if use DVC points to cruise. Yes it makes it simple but for 1/2 the points it costs to cruise I can rent them and pay for the cruise.

We did too. Used points in 2016 to cruise. We went all in for that cruise, went concierge. Celebrated several big milestones and it was my husbands and daughters first cruise. I read and hear that using DVC points for a cruise is a not the way to go, but I just don't get it. For me, in the future, I wouldn't use points but my husband is insisting. I wish I could wrap my head around this. I think going forward with our DVC we'll do less park stays and more cruises.

there is nothing wrong with doing more cruises but if doing that you really need to use the DVC points to their true value. You will be able to pay for almost twice as many cruises if you rent your points and use the money to pay for the cruise vs using points for the cruise.

This is the most simple way to explain it:

ok so points go for around $18 per point. that is what you can typically rent points for depending on different factors but that is a fairly conservative amount. If you rent them on your own then that money is all yours. You can use secondary parties to book for you which does end up costing a little money but still end up making more money this way compared to using points to rent.

So to figure out the difference look to see how many points it takes to book the cruise that you want.
Take the number of points required to book the cruise and then multiple that number by $18. that is how much money you could make using those points to rent instead of booking the cruise using points. So that is the money you would get renting the points instead of using them to book the cruise. That is money in your pocket.

Then go online to disney cruise line and see what the cost to book the exact same room paying with money instead of points.

Then take the money you make by renting and subtract the cruise cost and that gives you how much the points are actually worth and how much money you are actually losing by booking a cruise using DVC using points.

The amount of money you get from renting points will far exceed paying for the cruise and leave you a lot of extra money as spending cash. sometimes it is almost double the amount so could book 2 cruises using that money.

there are actually complete threads that have a much more detailed breakdown and point differentials and such to explain it but to me the above explains it pretty simply in a way that makes since to me
