True. Why do all cruise lines have to be the same? And the Disney panache for "keeping to the theming" is a big factor in what's allowed on Disney ships.

If you mean about stuff with people, you can see if there's a meet on here for your group. Odds are any Fish Extender stuff will be handled by the group on FB though - you could put one out and make your own pixie dust leaving stuff for others in your cabin. But most of the exchanged get organized on FB.

But you don't have to join a meet group to enjoy your cruise. I've been on 8 Disney cruises so far (not to mention several Royal and Celebrity) and never done a meet group here or elsewhere and had a fabulous time on each and every one.

Leaving them around the ship, even though “not hidden” is still not allowed. Basically you can’t leave them anywhere outside your stateroom except in a fish extender.
Of course they weren’t taken out of your luggage, DCL has not made them a prohibited item, *yet*.
It’s always amazing to us crew how many people will bend the rules to suit them. smh

Mags I have a question unrelated to Ducks but I thought you might be able to answer. I am on the Panama Canal Cruise that leaves on Easter next year. A group of us were planning on bring easter eggs and organizing an egg hunt for the kids. During a specific time and location. Someone said Disney would not allow, thinking it's like hiding ducks. What's your take? I know disney might do something for Easter but the highlight of that day, for my kids, if the easter egg hunt. What are your thoughts?

No they won’t allow you to use a location to do a private egg hunt, or indeed hide eggs around the ship. As you said, it falls into the same category as ducks. I have never seen guests do an egg hunt onboard (although it is possible they have and I never saw it). I have seen a lot sit around together and exchange eggs. I even saw one where kids had little bags and each family had a different treat to put in and the kids went to each family (sitting in a sort of circle on deck). I was trying to think of a way around it, but there really isn’t a way to sort of “reserve” an area for a long period of time in order to hide and then search without others being in the way/possibly finding your eggs.
I think the only solution is to do an egg hunt as a family in your own room, and then give others out as gifts to the other families if you wanted to.

I am sure as we get closer to the sail date we will figure out someway of having a fun Easter Celebration. One person in the group organized a trick or treat on deck for for Halloween on a tranalantic cruise. Perhaps something more like that or "fish extender" easter baskets that can magically appear with egss.

Maybe do an egg hunt at home the week prior, on Palm Sunday? Or the day before if you aren't traveling until then. Then have a few treats for the kids onboard or in your hotel room prior to embarkation.

You could do a visual scavenger hunt, where players identify locations around the ship — maybe describe a piece of art (or show it, if you can get photos before the cruise) and ask for the deck number and fore/aft/midship. Then players go to a location (such as the atrium, pool deck, or a lounge) to get a small prize for each correct answer.

I think you are onto something with the fish extender easter baskets. That could work.

How about this idea. Why don't we let DCL take care of entertaining us , after all isn't that included with the cost of the cruise?

OP -- are you going on the Adventure? Unfortunately not a lot is known yet about that ship, but I do find it hard to believe anyone will be bored.

hi, yes we are going on the Adventure. I just watched a youtube video of a family where they documented hiding ducks all around the Treasure and they had a lot of fun. At one point, one family member even asked a cast member managing the popcorn bar to help her hide the duck, and he happily helped. So.... two things going thru my mind are:

1) will Asians do duck hiding at all? do they even know about it?

2) i may bring a few small ducks and hide them in the concierge lounge for the kids to find... or other kids to find, still not 100% convinced

That is still considered "public" though to a lesser degree, so by policy, no.

That being said, the concierge hosts are not going to risk a guest meltdown and will likely allow it.

But they shouldn't - and other crew members shouldn't turn a blind eye and help. But they will do it to prevent meltdowns and complaints. Disney should back them up on refusing to allow it or assist.

I'm beginning to think maybe those of us anti-ruining the theme by litter being placed around should complain to Guest Services. Let them know we can be vocal too.

Which cruise line would that be? From all I've read none of them encourage it.

I wouldn't hid ducks myself and certainly hadn't planned to look for them BUT then my daughter found one (two actually, but I only let her pick up the one). She's 4 and was so incredibly excited about finding a small rubber duck that I couldn't say no. When I looked at it later I noticed it had a tag that said it was hidden by a family from Scotland, which I thought was kind of cool.

We are rule followers, so would never hide them ourselves but I can see how the kids love them. I think it's just one of those things that people have ruined for others by not using common sense.
