Cruise Curmudgeons of the World Unite

My Curmudgeon is on this site with people who do not have the common sense to use the search function (it is really bad), or scroll thru 2/3 pages to find the answer to their question, or Google it.
Repetitive posts about obvious often asked questions.

You have the ability to log onto this site, so no excuse to search for the question without starting a new thread!
i.e: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2749457

(me trying to be helpful without screaming!)

Also... not being able to use TINY URLS. My last post would have been one from:

AKA: Let me Google that for you!

What your Curmudgeoning report of the ship tour doesn't say is how you responded to Guest Services, nor how you asked what information the tour would provide.....
Nor any response from any feedback. Nor any comments as to how the tour could be better? Ex Techie
Pretty sure Curmudgeons don't believe in "teachable moments" :lmao::lmao:

Keep up the Curmudgeonry - its cracking me up!
I know its all in good fun :thumbsup2

It's very simple. DW gave me a mantra to repeat every time I left the cabin: "If I embarrass you, I must sleep under the sink."

That sounds so familiar...I think I remember giving my DH the one about sleeping outside. All joking aside that was one of our best vacations yet.

Ok, I understand we're supposed to be dancing on deck with the CMs, then go to a cooking demonstration, followed by a break with a slushy tropical concoction while we watch a movie on Ariel Vision. But what about just chillin' in the stateroom and watching TV?

Well, as pointed out by wonderful Platinum member we shared time with, the "Big Bang" channel had five 22-minute segments of her favorite program. It's the same with all the other TV shows with their own channels: five shows. That was fine when the Wonder was making three- and four-day Bahamas runs, but we were on the 15-day Trans-Panama cruise.

Now Wonder is making week-long Alaska runs, and in a couple of months they'll be spending 7 days cruising Mexico. These standard cruises need more videos. And Mrs. Curmudgeon and I will be taking a three-week Hawaii cruise.

Will DCL please spool up more videos? Can the techies find some way to get news feeds at sea? I'm tired of watching the same CNN featurette videos playing every hour. The ships have satellite downlinks in those gigantic beach balls. The antennas are aimed automatically by the ship's gyroscopic navigation system. CNN, Disney/ABC and many other international networks have satellite feed horns broadcasting to huge sections of open ocean and coastline.

They could even use the 40-year-old technology of mailing new or updated videos to ports of call. But someone in the communications department has to make it happen.

Just grumbling.

What about that "family" at the Welcome Aboard show? Boring!
Sail Away...boring. Pirate Night...boring.

In legend, a familiar or familiar spirit is a supernatural being that helps and supports a witch or magician. Traditionally, a familiar is an animal.

The stereotypical familiar in Western culture is the black cat. Because black cats are strongly associated with witchcraft, there are a number of superstitions regarding them. A black cat crossing ones path is said to be a portent of doom, for example. A familiar may be nearly any animal, however. Other common forms for a familiar to take are a dog, an owl, and a toad.

Or, in this case, a Disney stuffed toy.

WOW! Now these ladies carrying their dressed up Mickeys everywhere creeps me out even more!

Ooh, sign me up! I'm really a crab today, too.

DH was laughing at me this morning because I was complaining about having to share a dinner table with strangers. I don't like sharing meal times with strangers and making small talk with them, it just makes me very uncomfortable.

Oh well, I guess I need to put on my big girl pants & deal with it! Glad to know I won't be the only curmudgeon on the ship.:upsidedow

My DH is especially with you on this! He always says he would pay extra if we could have a table to ourselves. So that leaves me being the Pollyana and coming up with all the small talk! ;)

We don't like sharing with strangers either and have managed, twice to have a table to ourselves.

The other times we were either with friends or sat with people I had met on the thread for our cruise.

Neither of us are terribly good with strangers. I agree with your husband, I think I would pay for a table to ourselves.

For our last cruise I requested a table for two and had them make a note our reservation that others find us offensive.

Best to give fair warning.

Fortunately for our upcoming 2 cruises we're sitting with friends. At least they know how to handle us.

Fawkes, Hedwig, Crookshanks, Nagini but not Scabbers as it turned out.

I can't stand when people use "it's Disney!" without any further explanation to justify and/or rationalize everything:

e.g.

"Why do DCL cruises cost 3 times as much as a similar cruise on another cruise line?"
"Because it's Disney!"

"Although I had an enjoyable cruise, I felt that the food was generally sub-par."
"But it's Disney!"

"I'm thinking of going on another cruise line and would like some advice...:
"Why would you??? Are you some kind of moron???? Stick with DCL because it's Disney!"

OMG!!! I  this thread!! It has had me laughing out load here at work (making people look at me even more weirdly than normal).

Thank you Ian, for starting this :goodvibes

I have my moments w/ DCL....and know that I've been a CM at the Disney Store, Epcot & DCL, and while I do love how Disney makes me feel, I do not like those that are not being genuine.

I personally love it when they annouce my name...it tells me I'm REALLY on vacation....not my real name, but what I give them...I've been part of "The Three Amigos" and will proudly be part of the "Crumudgeon Family" in November.

I agree 100% with everything that's been said about the Head Servers/Maitre'd (except when it's been a dark, tall, handsome Italian :rotfl: bearing gifts). I've had some great servers, and some servers that have made me want to say "go away & leave me alone". I love the idea of the t-shirt that says I'll tip if you go away (or something like that).

My favourite sail away celebration to date, was the 1 I had with 2 great gals on our balcony ;) I can do without the Pirate Night deck party too. I must say, tho, that some people blow me away with their costumes. Such creativity.

I've appreciated being able to sail with the Ambassadors from Freedonia, but I've also sailed with those from the lower classes.

Ian - I thought you were going to say that meeting ME on the 4nt Wonder cruise was the worst :lmao: That tour was interesting, wasn't it???

So happy to have been a part of THAT experience! Curmudgeonly feelings/attitude could not survive that week!.

Absolutely loving this thread!

We are platinum members and always wear the lanyards (hey, we've earned it) and i hate it when you first board the ship, and right after they announce your family, a CM come up and begins to explain what to do; where lunch is, when you can get in your room, where to make any dining changes, etc. I want to hold my lanyard in his face and say "more than 10 cruises, I know how this works now..."

when they see your platinum lanyard, they should just say "welcome back" and leave me alone

I hate it when people wear their cruise lanyards with the attitude that they've somehow accomplished something significant in their lives.
