Nancy -- SARS is still a continuing problem here in Toronto but to be honest I haven't seen anyone walking around with a mask. We actually live just north of Toronto and I work east of Toronto so I'm rarely ever in downtown Toronto. Having said that one of the hospitals closed by SARS is our community hospital. We have a friend under 10 day quaratine because she had physiotheraphy at the hospital. She's not sick though -- it's only a precaution. I'm just hoping that nobody in my family gets sick and needs to go to an emergency ward for the time being. They seem to have the situation under control at the moment although they are still expecting the number of cases to go a bit higher. It's amazing how the disease travels though. So far they have tracked all cases to one person which is just amazing.

We are taking care and watching the news to keep up to date about the outbreak but hopefully it will be over soon. I heard an interview on the radio of the daughter of the first case reported. It was really sad because her mother died and then her older brother died and she and her younger brother were both hospitalized with it but did survive. Both her mother and older brother died before the doctors realized that it was SARS. It must have been so scary for her to be sick and not know what exactly was wrong and whether or not she'd survive.

Waiting for spring weather.

Fiona

Just in case anyone has been following the 'packing' threads - I found some 2 & 1/2 gallon Hefty zippered bags at Target and Genaurdi's (Safeway) last week. Seem to be a better size for packing adult sized clothing.

Hey, Eric!

Thanks for wearing those Stars and Stripes. It's a nice way to show support in public. I should wear my Stars and Stripes polo shirt more often. It really gets your attention.

Tina :)
PS: The panda bears in Washington are getting a little amorous. Let's hope for a little one. It would be the property of the Chinese government. I could watch them all day long!

Tina,
although our countries have different opinions in the Iraq-issue there are still strong bonds of friendship and we're also still grateful for what America has done for us after the war and during the cold war. I think Benjamin Franklin once said: "Critics are friends caring for you" (I don't think it's verbatim, because I read that quotation in German).

Yeah,
Pandas are cool!! We spent some time watching them last week in Berlin, it was fun.

Hi Everyone..

Its been awhile since I've posted. Glad to see everyone is fine.

Just read the posts regarding the SARS. The other day I took my mom to the dr/hospital and one of the people(I believe she was just someone bringing another patient in) sitting in the waiting room was wearing a mask. I really didn't get a great feeling from that. Me and my sister looked at each other regarding this. We
didnt know if she had something or was trying not to get something. Just a little scary though.

Windermere ... Thanks, I'll have to look for those Zippered 2.5 gallon bags. With them you can make your own vacumn packing bags and save room in the luggage for the loot we'll get on the cruise. ESPECIALLY THE SCAVENGEAR TROPHY!

I also read where you pack your stuff in one suitcase and then put that suitcase inside another one of a slightly larger size ... that way you have one for eighter seperating you clean from dirty clothes or souveniers (sp).

Eric ... I was wondering if we should also bring the little flags again this year to wave at sail-aways (from all the ports) like we did on Cruisetoberfest I?

Gotta run ... work calls.

Hi, all!
Another cold, gray day here in Ohio. Luckily, we got only rain this week instead of all the snow they were originally forecasting. I'm just glad we had some nice weather while Josh was on spring break last week....just a few days, but at least we know there's hope for spring.

Dan--Sorry to hear about your assistant manager. That does make for long hours for you. My oldest son was burned by hot oil when he worked at Burger King in high school. His inner wrist slipped into one of the fryers.... not a pretty sight. We visited the burn unit several times for that.
Just saw your dates for your June trip. I think our daughter and her family will be there during that time too. I think their dates are June 8 -11th. It will be Becca's first Disney trip!

ripp-- We live in Barberton. It's been a while since we've been down there, but if I remember right, it takes us about an hour or so to drive down to Salt Fork. How close do you live?

Rosemary-- It sounds like Ollie is healing nicely! I bet you're all relieved.

Cathy (@Goofynut)-- We got the email you sent. Very cute!! I like your idea about packing a smaller suitcase inside a larger one. I learned to do that the hard way when we had to buy another suitcase to get home with on one of our Disney trips. I think I shopped too much that trip. ;-)

Mary Jo-- We got the big envelope in the mail today. Thank you so much for all the info!! We'll be in that area June 7th - 14th.... I'll email you or you email me......

Sounds like a good time was had by all at the Lancaster meet! Are there any Ohio people who'd like to meet before the cruise?

All this talk of Cracker Barrel and Steak and Shake sounds so good. We have both near us, love the Cracker Barrel, but have never tried the Steak and Shake.

Mike-- If you think Katie can reach from her walker, just wait till she's walking on her own! I swear this one has arms like Stretch Armstrong! Plus, she's learned to get on and off of our couch on her own now, much to the dismay of the cat, who's favorite spot is on the back of the couch.

Better run and get some stuff done while Becca's napping. Catch you all later.

Take care,
Colleen

PS-- Did I read in an earlier post that we're exchanging cell phone #'s for during the cruise? If so, do we send that to Eric also?

We insist!!! As posted before, I just have to turn my head about 25º to the left to see one of the 2001-flags, they're such a great memory. The other one's on my desk in the office.
With the war in his final phase now -We keep our fingers crossed for the Iraqi people and your troops that it really is over now- there are even more reasons to show the flag.
Although most of us Europeans still think that there may have been a solution of the situation without a war, I must pay my repects to the Allied Forces, who managed to lead the war with a minimum loss of lifes on both sides and so little collateral damage.
OK, they haven't found WMD (so far), but that S.O.B. (this does not mean Saddam of Bagdad ;) ) is gone - , which is good for the world, and even better for the Iraqi people.

Especially for us in the aviation industry the end of the war is extremely important. Some major American carriers are nearly bankrupt, Quantas (of Australia) just fired 1.400 people due to the crisis and Lufthansa, our nation's largest airline also considers staff reductions. Additionally we've got the SARS-problem, which also has a major impact on the airlines, because many people are afraid to fly to Asia - or even to fly at all.

I hope to find time for an update this weekend. Saturday we will celebrate my Auntie's 83rd BD with large brunch in a small village-hotel near Frankfurt and on Sunday I have to teach a first-aid-class.

My family will bring our small flags to wave also. I think they can be purchaced at oriental trading company. I do remember we had a hard time finding them for the 9/22/01 crusie because so many people were buying flags!

Nancy, I love those 21/2 gal sized bags! I buy them whenever I see them and use them often when traveling or camping.

Colleen (Scootersmom) we are still waiting for someone to take over the task of cell phone numbers. I think it's a great idea to have cell numbers of our DIS friends in case of some unforseen problem prior to getting on board. I know it was wonderful to have them last trip when I had the "missing birth certificate" problem!!!!

I am so happy the war looks like it will be over soon. I enjoyed seeing the Iraqi people dancing in the street and chanting U S A!!
So nice to see them waving the American flag and NOT burning it for once!!!!

I can volunteer to do the cell phone numbers, if that's ok. Everyone who wants to can just email to me at the address on the list.
Would it be best if I email the list of numbers to everyone who sends one in and then maybe also print them all on a little card for our wallets to hand out when we sail? Or I can snail mail them beforehand, whichever would work best.

Any ideas welcome.

Colleen

Thanks Colleen,

I'll put you as "The Keeper of the Phonebook" on the next list.

Wonderful Colleen! Thanks for taking on this task:) I think we can all print out a list when sail time is near. No need to snail mail the numbers.:bounce:

Just stoping by to say hello again. I'm still here, and eagerly awaiting the October cruise! 6 months to go!!

It's sunny today.:Pinkbounc Really hoping that a lot of the snow melts today. Some has melted but there's still a lot to go. It's supposed to be nice all weekend though so everyone is hopeful that by Monday we will be able to see grass.

Waiting not so patiently to start complaining about the heat.

Fiona

Today was the first day the sun came out this week. It warmed up to mid 40's. Rain coming back tomorrow and cooler.

Nancy

Sat. is the first day of trout season, so Norm will be off fishing. Friends of ours have a party the 1st day of trout season every year. Norm also goes, if the weather is nice I show up in time to eat. If the weather is ugly, I stay home in my nice warm house.

Nancy

Changed my All Star Music reservation the beginning of my May trip to CSR. Never been there so will be a new adventure for us. Since new codes came out for moderates was only $10 more per night.
