Hey! That new ride in Epcot is nausiatingly fun! While Amy was reminded of what it was like to have pregnancy morning sickness, Emily and I fooled around with the video cards. They are free to make and you can send them to any email address. Check them out:

Hi Everybody:

Both Andy and I really enjoyed the meet in Baltimore. It was really great meeting everybody and we cant wait for October..

Heres my question and am anxious for the answer. Where did Avis move to? Do they still transport to and from the port?

Arlene

Eric - Amy said that you were looking for more web space for the pics. I have a 30MB web space that I am not using - we can use it for this if you want. Email me and we can work on it.

Amy - I'm glad you rode Mission: Space. ;) I did not have a problem with it except that after the first time I was wishing I could have sat there for at least 10 seconds before being rushed out for the next load of "astronauts." :p Yet I DO have a problem with Body Wars. I've only been on that once and ended up in the very back row, and if I recall correctly, some of the maneuvers caused me to hit my head on the wall behind and I was dizzy when I exited the ride. I could be wrong. It's been a long time. I only know that on any of those "simulators" and even on wild coasters (I love RRC, the Hulk, Kracken) I am fine as long as I'm in the front row. :jester: Lucky for me there is no back seat on Mission: Space! Still, once a day is plenty of MS for me, unlike the coasters. The coasters are my chiropractor. MS is just a REAL THRILL!

Welcome home to Mike and Kathy and Fiona and Jim...get some well deserved rest!!! It was so nice to meet you, Fiona and Jim and to see Mike and Kathy (even though we just saw them 3 weeks ago!!). Glad y'all had a safe trip home (inside joke on the y'all....bet you didn't think I'd remember Mike that this has to be used for more than two people!!)

Arlene...how was your trip home..did you also leave on Saturday night? We pulled into our driveway at 12:00 midnight so it wasn't a bad trip home. Tell Andy that I am going to email him and will send you info on Cozumel and the ruins! Mary Jo

Hi Maryjo:

The trip home was fine. Practically no traffic even once we hit NY which is a major miracle. I tried really hard to stay awake but the motion of the car always puts me to sleep. We also got home around 12:00.

We both enjoyed meeting everybody and was sorry the day had to end but October will be here before we know it.

Looking forward to your email.

Arlene

papa...thanks for the pictures...for some reason, I can't open them at work but Sarah said we also got them at home so I look forward to checking them out.

All I know is, if that dog is cruising with us, I'M NOT GOING!!!! A brief background for those of you not with us...I am a dog lover and when we saw this dog, she was so cute and I told her so...I reached out to let her sniff my hand as any smart dog lover would do and the dog nearly took off the fingers on my right hand because her owner said "she is very protective of her crate!!" Mary Jo

A big GOOD MORNING! to all of you and a great big THANKS for the cake and surprise, & cards.

I whined and cried all the way home cause I wanted to stay and visit the city. I knew it had a lot of history but I just wasn't aware of HOW much there was. I hope Mike and I can go back and visit again. Although we would need Mary Jo to really get the most 'bang for our buck' That girl knows how to get around and gets a lot done in a short time. Thanks Mary Jo for telling us about the Ducks! I absolutely loved it. Our tour guide, I am sure, made the trip even more interesting especially with the music. Can we all say/sing YMCA? :o Poor Sarah. Not only did she have to put up with her own parents but with a group of fun loving friends of her parents. I know the girl had to have read another two books while on the Duck. :p Sarah uses the books to hide behind while the crazy people her mom stuck her with are acting out. :p

Cathy, Mike did figure out how to burn the pictures on the CD finally. He is so proud of himself!

Arlene and Andy, what can I say except that we would have been waiting for a lot longer if you had not been there. ;)

Rosemary and Rich it was so good to see you again. You both are looking so well. Please tell Richie to be careful. Mikey had a motorcycle wreck and thankfully (?) a broken leg and road rash was the worst of it. He spent a few days in the hospital but has not been back on a "Donorcycle" as the ER staff called it.

Tina, Bill, the cake was beautiful. Thanks so much for picking it up and to everyone else. Thanks. Hopefully I will get to talk with you a little longer on the cruise.

Nancy and Norm. Gosh, you looked so good. I can't wait to tell Bunny. I am taking the pictures to work with me so she can "meet" you.

Fiona, and Jim, I am so glad you got to see some things on the way home. I hope Mike and I can go back one day and do the touristy stuff. I just had to get back and see my patients today. Darn! If it wasn't for NFN I couldn't do some of the stuff but I forget that they are the reason also that I do get to do some things. :(

This is long enough. We had a great time and a much needed break. Thanks to everyone for a swell birthday too! Kathy with a K

Just posted Mary Jo and read your post, gosh I didn't know she actually nailed you. I am so sorry. :( Bad Dog.

Cathy, Mike wants to know how "Loose Lips" is today.:p Thank you again Jeb for letting me know the prices of things. :p I really didn't mean to hear. (much) Mike wants to let you know Raquel now has a new name. She is now Betty the *ich. I never liked the name Raquel and I have a cousin Betty who is itchy and the name fits. :p Ya gotta admit she is good.

Take care. Kathy

*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. Kids 10 years and under are FREE. Prepayment by check is required two months prior to excursion (August). They don't take credit cards. If you are from outside the US, US Money Orders are accepted or if you have a US dollar account from a foreign bank you can draw a check on that.

We will be sending our checks to the following address:

The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt
3301 Pearl Ave
Key West, FL 33040

Please include a self addressed stamped envelope and also a NOTE with your names, e-mail address, date of hunt and DIS name. A new check will be issued from The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt to the envelope addressee and only be returned if the hunt is canceled due to the ship not arriving in Key West. No additional refunds will be made for cancellations, or people not arriving for the event.

***YOU MAY SEND CHECKS IN NOW***

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the red brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel. The hunt lasts from 1 PM to 4 PM. Remember to wear your ScavengEar t-shirts designed by @GoofyNut.

NOTE: The location may be moved since we are a large group. They'll let us know the exact start location and check in time closer to the event.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. The two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart. An electric cart isn't necessary to experience this tour.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too. Learn about interesting facts and trivia of these landmarks and sites.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too.

Since we are the ScavengEar hunt, our hunt has to have a pair of Mickey Ears, too. The back is sewn with the words "Pinky". At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied and stories of our hunt are told.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you.

Tina

Kathy...I didn't get nipped at but almost...I never pulled my arm back so fast in my life....I always said that I could talk a dog off of a meat wagon but apparently that doesn't work with a kamakazi dog in a crate!! We will definitely try to get together in the spring....maybe my timeshare in Williamsburg....don't know how long of a drive that is for you guys though!!

How is Betty doing??? Sam was thinking of getting one until I heard how much it was!!! Thanks to loose lips!! Sam has actually seen quite a few of Mike's toys that he would like...keep dreaming Sam!!! Mary Jo

TwinAve...just noticed from Eric's list that we are neighbors on board ship...looks like we are a cabin away from each other!!

Scootersmom...what flight are you connecting on in Pittsburgh on the Thursday night? We are on an 8:40 p.m. flight that leaves Pittsburgh and arrives in Orlando at 10:47 p.m. Too funny if we were on the same flight...I knew you said that you thought you connected in Pittsburgh!! What are you doing on Friday...we want to do one of the parks...haven't decided which one yet but I'm pretty sure it won't be MGM since we will want to make sure we do Fantasmic and if we stay and do that, we won't be able to join the party at the Radisson.

Mary Jo-- I checked our flight info and we change planes in Atlanta this time, not Pittsburgh. We don't arrive in Orlando till 11:55 p.m. Thursday night. A long day for all of us. We're planning to rent a car and spend the day at the Space Center on Friday before heading over to the Radisson for Friday night.

Mary-- Not sure what time we'll be done at the Space Center and over to the Radisson, but if you set up a time, we'll make every effort to be there. I'd say probably late afternoonish? Haven't been there for years and not sure how long we'll want to stay there.

I have a question about car rental, if anyone has any knowledge of this. We always rent from Hertz because it's just so convenient with them being off-site of the airport. We hop their shuttle, get our car quickly, and are on our way with no airport traffic. I was going to try Avis this time since they had an office right at the Radisson, but since they've moved.... I know Hertz has an office near the port, but does anyone know if they also have a shuttle to/from the port?

Glad everyone made it home safely from Baltimore. Sounds like it was a great weekend.

Tina-- Our check for the hunt is in the mail! Thanks for all the work you've done to get this organized.

Need to switch laundry. Take care all!

Colleen

But...does anyone in our Dis group do counted cross stitc h ? I'm cleaning out stash & have lots of patterns I no longer want...

Bette

Does anyone know about the Avis move? Is there any other car rental place that transports to and from the port?

Help.....

Arlene

Arlene,

I just got an email from Andy...aka Verrandah Man..who said that the Avis office at the Radisson closed as of August 1st and was moving somewhere near Shirley from the Perfect Gift....We are planning on renting a car when we get into Orlando on Thursday night and then turning it in either Friday night or Saturday morning...I am only hoping if we turn it in on Friday night that they will give us a ride back to the Radisson. If this is not the case, I am planning to drop the car off on Saturday (first I will drop Sarah at the port to leave our bags) and then get the Avis shuttle to the ship. Let me know if you hear anything and I'll let you know if I hear anything more. I actually plan on emailing Shirley and going to ask her to check on this for us. Mary Jo

Hi alikat99 - we're going to be at the 10/10 MNSSHP. We have a 5:30 PS for LTT. Maybe we can meet sometime during the party???

We are renting a car from Budget since they have a shuttle and are at the airport. I was using Avis and staying at the Radisson, but with the Avis move, I decided to change to Budget. We are now staying in Orlando since we are going to MNSSHP that night.

RellingTwin - We can go to a couple of the meets and greets -

Oct. 11 Deck 10 and the Oct. 13 Palo Brunch if I can get Haley into Flounder's Reef.

Hope to see you there.

Renee'

That would be great. We probably aren't making dinner ressies, because we'll be leaving from St. Pete late that afternoon. We'll probably just grab something to snack on during the party.

We're in the same boat with Flounder's Reef. We have to go to get Emily ressies for FRN too, so that we can do Brunch. But, we plan on being at the port as early as possible, so we're hoping that we can get a ressie there.

If no one else does, my mother does.
