CRT Menu Woes

. . . I read where they also have a "proposal" package with an actual glass slipper for the ring . . .
. . . you might want to call first
. . . I had thought they discontinued this

I was concerned from the beginning about booking CRT because my kids are picky eaters.
. . . then, I would suggest eating elsewhere
. . . WDW cannot appeal to all picky eaters

I have never had a problem getting a sauce left off or on the side at any WDW restaurant, including the castle. So if your kids will eat Prime Rib, just request no sauce. Should be easily accomodated.

The castle is NOT about the food. It is all about the atmosphere. We've done it, don't need to do it again. But I am glad we did it.

And DW would be so excited for any type of special recognition. Either the proposal package or just the slipper dessert. Major points for you!

Regardless of which menu is accurate, there are definitely a number of items on the dinner menu that are appealing to everyone in my family (it looks like I would be the ONLY one happy with the lunch menu), so I'm thinking that switching to dinner is definitely the way to go.

Now for the complication... an 8:10 pm slot has opened up. My concern is that we were counting on reserving a spot for Wishes (and especially the "Magic, Memories, and You" pre-show) by 9:00 pm. I think that ADR time is too late and will cause us to miss the MMY pre-show. By the time we get photos taken, etc., we might just be getting a table by 8:30 or later. If the meal runs no longer than 60 minutes, we would still have a few minutes to make our way to the front of the castle but, by then, the sea of humanity would have already formed and I really don't want to be trying to fight that at the last minute to hope for a view of the castle. And, if they are late seating us, we might miss the pre-show altogether. Maybe I'm being overly cautious and we would be finished by 9:10 pm and have plenty of time to go find a spot, but I don't want to spend the entire meal worrying that we will miss the show.

On the other hand, there is a rather early dinner time available (the only other one currently) for 4:15 pm. The downside to this ADR time is that we would only have about 90 minutes at the resort pool for a midday break (by the time you factor in buses back and forth, changing in and out of swimming attire, etc.). I think my family would be fine with that much time at the pool, but I don't want the midday break to turn into a mad dash of "get on the bus, change, get in the pool, get out of the pool, change, get on the bus, get to the restaurant."

After years of commando trips, I'm trying to slow down and relax a bit more. Right now, I'm inclined to take the early dinner reservation and wait it out to see if something between 6-7 pm comes open later on. In the long run, I don't think my family will mind the abbreviated break. I'll probably be the only one who feels "rushed" and I'm extremely flexible. In fact, if the family just wants to stick it out in the park instead of going back to the resort for a dip in the pool, I'd be ok with that. I'm just trying to expand their horizons a little. I think they would really enjoy an hour or so of swimming instead of standing in long lines in the heat (if they will have an open mind and give it a try!).

I think an abbreviated midday break is better than none at all. Keep in mind that my family is not accustomed to taking a break at all, so maybe a short one is good the first time out. That way, they don't feel like they are losing valuable "ride time." Am I trying to cram too much in by going back for a midday swim if we have to return to CRT for ADR by 4 pm? Loose plans right now would be to eat an early lunch at 11 am, be on bus to resort between 12:15-12:30pm, swim from about 1-2:30 pm, and catch bus back to MK at 3:00 pm. That gives us a little over an hour to play with in case bus service is slow.

I have found things here to be updated faster than WDW's site. I figured the lack of lunch menu was just temporary and it hadn't gotten posted yet. I am willing to be wrong.

WDW's site is notoriously slow to update everything including menus. I booked a VIP tour a few weeks ago and the VIP tour office did not have the correctly updated parks hours and questioned my booking reserved parade seats for an 11pm parade that did not exist on their computer. They called a week later to say the hours had updated on their computer and we were booked:rolleyes:

As for eating in the castle , by all means if that is what your wife would enjoy go for it. However, the food is mediocre at best and not what it was several years ago. I would follow PP's advice and let your kids eat CS and ride some rides while you are dining. Mine were younger when we began letting them do a few things together sans parent while we were in the same park (they had phones and ground rules and knew MK like our own city). Another suggestion would be to try California Grill, you can check out the menu for that or your kids could eat the QS at the Contemporary and visit the arcade while you and your wife dine and watch the fireworks.

I would really really really reconsider CRT. It's really a noisy mob scene from start to finish. The food seems to be premade and held and not cooked to order like most of the other restaurants so they are less adaptable. What about doing Narcoosees or Cali Grill that both have romantic views without hordes of screaming mini-princesses? Both of those will do special desserts to order too. Even if your wife thinks she wants to go to the castle I think she'd ultimately not be happy nor will the teens. At real signature places they will easily accommodate your teens preferences.

My advice is to not let picky teenagers dictate all your dinner plans, especially if it's something special you want to do for your anniversary.

Send them off on their own, they'll be fine.

I'm going to co-sign on this.
