CRT and dining plan

Hubby and I have the regular dining plan.

If we book CRT and decide later to switch it to something else, do we get the meals back? I wasn't sure if there were differences when booking CRT or something like the Spirit of Aloha. Also, when do they require you pay cash in advance? Is that only if you don't have a meal plan or enough meals?

If you have the DP, they don't deduct the credits until you actually use them. So as long as you cancel within the required time frame (I think it's 2 days, but not positive) it won't use up any of your meals.

You only have to pre-pay if you don't have a DP attached to your reservation, although even with DP they make you give a CC as a guarantee in case you don't show up (or cancel too late), in which case you will be charged the full amount.

Yes, you get your credits back if you cancel within the allowed time frame. More than 24 hours prior I believe.

But, you must cancel or you will be charged for the meals.

Spinning off this. A friend paid for their CRT reservation but now has a DDP linked to their reservation. Can they request a refund for their payment now?.

They can but I wouldn't recommend it if they can just wait and do it at the restaurant.

If your friend wants the money back now, when they call make sure the CM understands to modify the reservation, not cancel and rebook with the different payment method. I have seen posts where that happens, and in that time frame the reservation disappears. I wouldn't risk it.
