Crowds yesterday (8/20/14)

I saw some people were worried about the crowd levels now that the passes aren't blocked for the Southern California passes, so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in (Southern California pass holder since February).

We got to the park about 30 minutes after it opened and went straight to CA to get fast passes for RSR, which we walked right up to and got a return time of 4:40-5:40pm. We went back out and headed to DL. No long lines to get through the gates at all. We were able to do all the big rides (Matterhorn, Splash, Pirates, BTMRR, etc.) with our longest wait about 20 minutes. To me, there was a huge difference in crowds....I was completely expecting it to be hard to walk through the lands due to strollers and just the amount of people there, but I was shocked at how that wasn't the case. I couldn't stop commenting on how there seemed to be a lack of strollers this time around, which really makes a difference in how packed a land feels.

For the first time we did the Jedi Training Academy. We just happened to be in the area when it started and there wasn't too many kids there, still lots of sitting area available. My youngest realllly wanted to be picked so we decided to give it a try. Sure enough he got chosen and he got to fight Darth Vader. :goodvibes

The kids and I left around 3:30ish to get some linner and decided to go spend the rest of the day in CA. We used our FP for RSR and that was our longest wait in CA last night (about 15/20 minutes top). My kids rode every single ride (well, not the bugs land rides, my kids are 6, almost 11, 12 and 13 and don't care for those rides), some of them several times in a row. Screamin was almost a walk on....3-5 minute wait tops.

We called it a day around 9pm and watched the fireworks from the top of the parking structure (to avoid the mad dash to the tram and the long lines waiting for it. We've seen the fireworks so many times that my kids don't care if we stay for it or not).

I don't know if we got really lucky yesterday or not, but from my point of view, it really wasn't too bad as far as crowds go. Lines weren't too long (no hour plus wait times posted), the walkways were manageable, food lines weren't too long, just all in all a great day. :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting! This is very helpful since we'll be there all next week. I'm surprised the lines were so low in the mid-afternoon since that's when everyone suggests taking a break to nap/swim. Maybe that's why they were so low?! Maybe we'll try to push through and do full days instead of leaving and returning after dinner.

Also, were you there when passes still were blocked at all? We are planning to do parks on Friday the 29th when passes are unblocked and take the day off on Saturday the 30th when passes are blocked. This is a runDisney race weekend, so it's obviously not going to be similar to this week, but I was wondering if you thought it would be better to flip those to be in the parks when passes are blocked instead.

We went in mid July and I would totally recommend going on. Saturday when SoCal passes are blocked. Saturday was the quietest day we encountered, as was Sunday. Mon-Wed were much busier.

Great news! We live for California tomorrow from the east coast arriving in Anaheim on Sunday night. Did you follow a touring plan? I'm about to post a request for one! I signed up for TouringPlans but haven't had time to play with it because of a family medical emergency. I have two daughters far apart in age DD24 and DD11.
