crowds mid July

This is a Disney year for us and we are thinking of going to Disneyland for a change. What are the crowds like in mid to end of July? I'm just starting to look into going here so any help you can give me would be great. We've done WDW and we know it inside out now.

Busy. If you can go midweek because Friday-Sunday are worse. Midweek can be easy to manage by using early hours, late hours, eating at off hours and using FP efficiently.

Also known that this Summer some things might change as a large expansion is going to be done.

Midweek is just fine and no worse than WDW in the summer. You should definitely go to Disneyland as its truly amazing. Be warned though that Carsland will bring out many people and probably first time visitors. I can't wait for Summer as we're going back to my favorite of all Disney parks. You will probably want to book fairly soon though. Are you thinking of staying onsite or offsite? Doing anything other than Disney in SoCal?
