i just read on the boards about a convention the days i'm going to be there and that some resorts are completely booked...should i be worried?? i actually thought i was going to go to disney and not have crowds to worry about for once (never went in january before)

As I understand, a lot of these conventions don't add many bodies to the parks. And the ones that do will increase the park populations in the evenings after the meetings are over, and even then, supposedly, not by all that much. We have been there quite a few times during different conventions, and we usually see the crowds only at the particular resorts where the groups are staying. Good luck, and have a good time.

What convention????? I'm going this time too and never heard of any convention! Ahhhh..... you have me panicked now too. This is my first trip in YEARS and I wanted it to be perfect.... now I'm so upset!!!!

i was reading another thread about the food court at POR being closed when we are there and it mentioned all the resorts that are booked that week because of a convention that whole week.
big crowds, no food court...........hopefully what mitros said about convention crowds is true, then i just have to worry about where i'll get my coffee in the morning.

I just checked on the WDW website for room availability for January 20 - 26, and there's plenty of rooms available in all resort categories (deluxe, moderate, and value), and there's even plenty of rooms available at CSR, which is a convention resort, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)

I'll be there that same time, and I'm not worried at all. You'll have a great trip.
:goodvibes

thanks for reassuring me on the crowds everyone. this will be my first trip back in 5 years, we used to go every year when my kids were younger. i'm excited and just want everything to go well. once the kids got older, we switched to universal every year (i was the only one that still voted disney) now my daughter is 16 and the only one going with us.
should i switch resorts now that i learned the food court will be closed? or should we just stay at the ole dixie landing? should i quit worrying?

Someone said Lotusphere will be there for the convention and mentioned the hotels they have discounted for this.

I'll have to keep checking their website to see what their plans are. They also mentioned they may close the park early for this... NOT good will totally screw up my plans since we are only there for 4 days.

So... keep praying!!!

I don't think Lotusphere will affect the crowd levels at all, but I've heard that their party could close one of the parks early, most likely MGM or AK, although AK closes at 5:00 pm all that week anyway, so maybe they'll have their party there after closing time. That would be ideal as it would have no impact on the park hours for the general public or the plans of any visitors during that time. Here's to wishful thinking anyway... :thumbsup2

I saw the agenda for Lotusphere posted somewhere else & the party is on that Wednesday night from 7:30-10:30. So, if it is at MGM or AK it shouldn't affect the public hours.
