we can't wear flip flops or crocs- a girls foot was basically impaled by a huge piece of mulch last yr that went through her shoe! (they held it up at K orientation just to show why the rule) anyway crocs really don't provide the proper cushioning or support for kids feet (if they wear them too much )
I know that our pre-school and Elementary schools have "banned" crocs, but they also require that only tennis shoes with socks be worn for safety reasons too. They want the kids to be able to run and play on the playground, and at the preschool they said that kids were slipping on the "rungs" of the climbing structure and falling, and also just getting the bark/sand in the shoes was very uncomfortable. Also, they said that when the kids were running on the playground (Elementary school) that they would often lose a shoe and also many twisted their ankles at the same time.
Banned in our schools, too, though the language doesn't specifically reference "crocs" - it's something along the lines of shoes "must tie or close with Velcro, and stay on the feet until the tie or Velcro is loosened". So crocs, flip-flops, slides, etc are a no-go. They enforce it, too - a friend of mine had to bring her DD a new pair of shoes on the second day of school, and whined about it. I was like "so....did you think there was an 'except for my daughter' clause?"
