A Swedish hospital wants to ban its staff from wearing Crocs plastic clogs, saying they generate static electricity that can knock out medical equipment.

See the rest of the article here.

:lmao: :thumbsup2

Uh-oh. Now people are just going to have to wear their Heelys to work.

You know, it's funny you should post this because I noticed something this weekend....when I wear my crocs, I get shocked! Each time I opened the refrigerator, I got zapped! Yikes, if they are causing that much trouble in a hospital, I don't blame them for banning crocs.

I'm always afraid to push the elevator button at work because I get shocked about 75% of the time. I figured it's a mixture of my crocs & the carpet in the halls. We are actually not allowed to wear crocs or clogs of any type, it's against policy but people still wear them.

I find this interesting for two reasons: I believe the original purpose for crocs was for hospital staff and I didn't realize a shoe made out of rubber would generate electricity.

I thought Crocs were initially made for boaters? :confused3

Birkenstock does make antistatic shoes which are popular for industrial use/workplace environments. I have a pair because I hate getting zapped.

I fully believe it. I zapped the soundcard in my Mac at work with static electricity from my crocs. All I did was stand off, peel off my sweater, and I had my headphones on, and I guess the static electricity fried the soundcard through the headphones because now I can't use the headphone jack for sound.

That's what I thought, too, though they are popular with hospital workers because of their comfort.

I've never noticed any increase in static electricity wearing my Crocs. :confused3

That static electricity could have been caused by taking off the sweater, regardless of what you had on your feet.

I also can't quite grasp how they can generate static electricity (any more than any other shoe...)

Funny thing is, where I work they recently changed the dress code to ALLOW them...since everyone was wearing them anyway. They're all I wear to work now. There's a huge difference in how my feet feel at the end of the day.

The big issue was the little holes...but it was decided that the holes were not that big a safety risk and now it's rare to see someone NOT wearing them.

Could be. But I continually zap myself on WHATEVER I touch that's metal around this office. Hurts, too!
