I purchased a pair of Croc Athens Mickey sandals a few weeks ago and I am trying to "break-them-in". Unfortunately, the straps are killing the tops of my feet. Does anyone else have this problem with the Athens sandals? ANy advice on how I can remedy this problem? The sandals fit great--the straps just hurt the top of my feet--no blisters, just pain.

Thanks!

This is exactly why I will not wear my Athens to the parks. I have a pair of Tevas that I adore for this kind of stuff. I bought the Athens very cheaply (seriously, $3 at the Crocs outlet near here) and I'm just planning on using them for the walk to the pool & also I bought them for camping to wear to the showers.

No way could I wear them all day in a park. Uh huh.

What type of Tevas do you have? I have a pair of Dozers and a pair of Mush flipflops--I love both, but I've never worn the flip flops in the park. The Dozers are nice--especially for water rides and afternoon downpours as they dry quickly.

I soooo wanted to love the Athens, but I don't. They are probably going to be my pool shoes.

Mine don't hurt the top of my feet - it just took me a while to get used to having something between my toes. I did wear them in the park for a couple of days in March and I was fine with them, but I still prefer a more supportive sneaker if I'm going to be walking for multiple days.

I don't have that style of Crocs, but I could never wear the ones I have all day at WDW. Though comfy, there's not firmness tothe support - so ultimately there's nothing to keep you form turing your foot in an odd way. I've also seen plenty of kids trip in them; the foam sometimes gets caught on hte pavement.

I also couldn't wear flip flops all day. Again, no side support is just one problem.

Good shoes are the most important investment for WDW. If you can't walk, your trip is over.

I did like the Tevas I have, they have the ankle strap. But even better than the Tevas are a pair of Ecco sandals I got on clearance for about $40. Perviously, I enjoyed Clarks, as one of my favorites. I sought the Eccos, because Clarks didn't make the style I liked last year...but this year they have brought it back in an improved version. Mine were like the Sunbeat or UnHull styles:

These kind of sandals offer a great combo of cushion and support, airyness and protection. So many times when I wore Birkenstocks I ended up getting my toes stubbed somehow.

The Longmeadow style also looks kind of nice, but sometimes with stat style of strap my pinky toe hangs out, which is really uncomfortable.

With the Sunbeat style the straps are wide enough to cover my toes. If you get blakc, though they are not glamorous, I feel they are a nice alternative for to sneakers for TS meals.

(The Eccos I have are like the Charm or 'Wave three' sandals: http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/womens/sandals/68/product-list.aspx )

I'm not going to be a huge help here, but wanted to tell you that if you decide to return them or buy another pair....try the capri style. They're the same flip flop style, but the top part and the part between the toes is made out of cloth. I love mine, very comfortable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to check on returning the Crocs and then I'm headed to the mall.

My previous pair of Nike sandals served me well for something like 6+ years until they finally died at Epcot last year. But I love these Nike sandals I found late last summer. http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/photos/NKE/22661_m.jpg.

They're actually for boys but I couldn't find any womens sandals that both fit and that I liked, especially so late in the season. These are light yet have a nice thick, solid sole and sturdy straps. Ironically, after getting these, I saw another woman in my building wearing the same pair!

Don't rule out looking in a section you otherwise wouldn't for shoes--you might find something you really like!

I hadn't even considered looking in the boys section until I needed to replace that first pair. Even better is that they were waaay cheaper than anything else I'd found.

I can't wear the Athens style at all - it totally kills my foot. I like the Capri style though - the straps are soft and I can wear those all day.

I'll be another voice for the Capris. I LOVE mine and wear them all the time.

I have to say I love my Capris as well. As long as I take those and my Disney Beach Crocs, I'm all set.

I'd vote for trying the Capris, Adaras or Patras sandals.

I'm a Crocs addict, and cannot war those Athens Crocs at all for a long time! The only solution I found was to pad the underside of the straps with moleskin, or to use body glide, but I'd never wear those all day walking in the parks. :)

I love my Croc Athens! I'm sorry yours are hurting your feet. Do you think maybe this pair was just "off" and the straps made slightly smaller or tighter? This is the only shoe I wear to the parks for a week straight; I found that it has better support and cushioning than even my New Balance. I have several pairs and sometimes can tell a little difference in the way they feel at first, but they've never made the top of my feet hurt and I have a high instep. I say try on another pair just to see.

I tried on the Capri's once and thought they would rub a blister because they were cloth and not smooth croc material.

I hope you find some shoes that feel good!:goodvibes
