Crocodiles in Jamaica, Mexico and Grand Cayman

I love alligator. ... boots. But seriously, I just think we've given too much leeway and importance to the alligator. My opinion- time to cut back the population. Especially in areas like theme parks!!

If the alligator population declines, the population of their prey will rise. What do alligators eat? Probably a lot of creatures you'd rather not bother you either. Nature abhors a void. You can't run a major predator out of an area and expect the ecosystem not to suffer any consequences.

Exactly. The alligator population is allowed to thrive artificially.

see now I really appreciate your advice here. Very informative and pleasant. I started another thread today about gators by splash mountain and most of the people there just insulted me instead of giving me some good info......

Take a long walk, breathe deeply, perhaps have some Rescue Remedy (flower essence you can get at health food stores that calms a person- even babies and pets- down almost instantly...it's like magic), and re-read. I saw no insults at all towards you in that thread.

And maybe remember that we are all the same people here. People see your posts. I go through quite a lot of the dis, in order, multiple times a day. The people you were being rude about on themeparks (no doubt in community now) also read here.

Disney claims to remove "bad" gators or "big"gators but the police department was able to find 5 huge ones pretty quickly.

Huge??

Bigger than expected perhaps. As we've learned this week, there are now people feeding them from bungalows. That's going to create bigger than expected animals, if they are being fed people-food now.

I definitely think Disney is a victim of regulations on gators but I also think they should be pushing back against those regulations instead of doubling down and allowing alligators to essentially turn their property into an alligator farm. An alligator farm?? Well--we've been to WDW 63 times--all week long trips. Stayed at the Poly several dozen times. Spent many a day at River Country. In ALL those trips we saw ONE alligator--just one. And he was in the water. And that was about 15 years ago---

An alligator farm--really!!!

People now making their own sizes up it appears. One news story claimed the kid was taken by a GIANT alligator----

Exactly--the "lets kill all the gators and solve the problem" mentality is pretty sad.

And humans are probably at the very bottom of any alligators favorite prey list---

I appreciate your respect for alligators but it is a fact that the alligator population has been allowed to grow artificially high because they have been "protected."

:offtopic:

The OP didn't ask about alligators at WDW. Please refrain from posting about that on this thread. There are other WDW alligators threads where you can do that.

Thanks!
