Hi all! I am newly back to work full time and often times do not get home until 6:30 p.m. so I would love to start utilizing my crock pots. If you have any tried and true recipes that you love please share as I would love to give them a try.

There have been a number of threads on this subject over on the Recipes/Scrapbooking board. I have a link saved to one of them.

Other than just making a roast in it & cooking sweet Italian sausage in sauce all day, I usually make this one. (Don't use chicken pieces with bones as the bones tend to almost disintegrate, making it difficult to get them out & still use the sauce.)

Five Flavors Chicken - Crock Pot
3 - 4 lb chicken, boneless
2 cloves garlic
½ c honey
1½ tsp ginger, ground
½ c soy sauce
3 Tbl sherry
½ c crushed pineapple with juice (opt)
2 Tbl cornstarch
Mix garlic, honey, ginger, soy & sherry. (Can substitute orange or cranberry juice.) Dip chicken into mixture. Place chicken in crock. Mix pineapple with sauce & pour over chicken. Cook on low for 6 hours. Remove chicken. Blend cornstarch into juice; cook to thicken.

Here's a basic, but good, chili recipe:

INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds ground beef
2 onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dried oregano
4 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
Brown ground beef. Mix all ingredients in crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours.

get a big hunk of oven roast or pot roast. put it in a crock put with a can of beef broth and a can of french onion soup...cook all day in the crockpot.
warm some crusty rolls and "slice" meat, put on rolls and serve with some broth from the crock pot to dip the sandwich in. french dip sandwiches.

I have a HUGE crockpot recipe file saved on my computer that I got from another discussion board I post on... It includes a table of contents, WW point info, and nutritional information as well. It's over 100 pages, so about 200 - 250 recipes, maybe?

Anyways, PM if you want with your email address and I'll send it to you! I've tried a bunch of them already - and all have been great!!!!!

Round steak, tomato soup, onions sliced, oregano, pepper

Throw it all into a crock pot and let it cook. Serve over rice.

3 lbs boneless chuck roast
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Place chuck roast in crock pot. Combine remaining ingredients in a bowl. Pour mixture over roast. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours. Shred meat and place back in crock pot stirring to coat meat with the sauce. Spoon mixture on buns for sandwiches.

Pork Roast

1 3 lb pork roast
1 can of beer (any besides dark)
1 12 oz jar of saurkraut with caraway seeds
1 1 lb package of baby carrots

Low for 6-8 hours

I don't like saurkraut and I rarely drink beer, but this is great. I don't eat the saurkraut, but it gives the pork great flavor. My aunt made this once and brought just the roast and carrots to a potluck dinner. I make it every few months and my family really likes it. :)

Good Luck with your crock pot cooking, it is a timesaver!! :)

Here's a great site for recipes: www.crockerykitchen.com

Orville, that BBQ beef recipe sounds excellent! I'm going to try it.

Here's one I "invented" myself, based on a dish my mother made on top of the stove.

Steak Pizziola
3-4 pounds (2 steaks) chuck steak with bones
Olive Oil for browning
4 cloves garlic
2 teaspoons crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 large can crushed tomatoes
Pasta

Trim the excess fat from the chuck steak and cut each steak into 3 or 4 pieces, just small enough to fit into a large saute pan.

Coat the bottom of the large saute pan with olive oil and chop 2 cloves of garlic into it. Brown the pieces of steak in the oil, a few at a time. Place the browned pieces into your crockpot, and add in the oil, garlic, and meat juices from the pan at the end.

Add the can of crushed tomatoes and 1 can of water, then the remaining 2 cloves of garlic (chopped) and seasonings.

Cook on low all day. Strain the bones out at the end of the day and turn the crockpot to high with the cover ajar (to cook out some liquid). Taste and adjust seasoning (will probably need more salt).

Boil pasta (I like a big one like rigatoni for this dish) and serve it with the sauce, steak on the side.

Another great site is www.recipezaar.com I have a huge cookbook on there with lots of recipes and especially crockpot recipes. The best crockpot recipe that I have found is 3 packet roast.

You take a beef roast (one that fits in your crock of course), cut up potatoes (I use the little potatoes for roasting) and put the potatoes in the pot first, You then mix 1 package of French Onion mix, Ranch mix, Italian mix together in a cup then sprinkle over the potatoes (some of it just to cover), then put roast on top (poke holes with a fork so flavours get in) and sprinkle the remainder of the mixes over the roast to completely cover it. Then put the top on and cook it for about 6 hours on low. I don't even add water to it because I find enough comes out of the roast itself. It is really yummy.

I love my crockpot and use it at least once every weekend. There is a great rib recipe too with 1 cup maple syrup (only real will do), 1/2 cup sweetened applesauce and tbsp of cinnamon, mix all this together, split the ribs (pork) into smaller pieces. Pour a small amount of syrup mixture into the bottom of the crock, then add the ribs and pour the remainder over the top. Put the lid on and cook for 6 hours on low. Very, very tender, the ribs fall off the bone.

Enjoy!

Best Ever Pot Roast

Ingredients:

Bottom Round Roast
1 pkg. Lipton dry Onion Soup Mix
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup Worchestire sauce
3 tbs. brown sugar
3 tbs. apple cider vinegar
sliced potatoes
sliced carrots

Slice carrots and potatoes and put on bottom of crock pot. Add roast. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over roast. Sprinkle liberally with black pepper. Set on low for about 8-10 hours. I serve this with buttered noodles, applesauce and peas.

Enjoy! BTW Men seem to really go for this dish.

I found this recipe a long time ago and even the picky eaters in the family will eat it.

1 1/2 Lbs GRoudn beef
1 onion
1 Packet "Brown Gravy Mix" --The dry stuff in the little package
1 bag frozen shredded hash browns
2 cans whole corn
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of mushroom soup.

Brown meat and onion...add pkt of gravy mix.

Place on bottom of crock...add layer of corn, layer of soup and layer of cheese

add 1/2 bag of hash browns

layer corn, soup and cheese.

cover

Cook on low approx 8 - 10 hours...

I sometimes use different "Flavors" of the gravy for a different taste.

Thanks for some yummy recipes - i'm always looking for new ones.

A tip for easy crockpot cleaning - before you start, spray the inside of the pot w/ cooking spray. everything comes out so easy!
