Where to begin.....

We were at Disney World this weekend for a long weekend with our kids. This was our second trip to Florida, and we stayed on Disney property. I had gotten some treats when we were out and about in Epcot on Friday. I left the treats in the bedroom sitting on a smaller piece of furniture. On Saturday, we got up and left for the day. Housecleaning came in and made the beds, etc. sometime during the day. Saturday evening, after a long day at the park, my daughters and I returned to our room because we were tired, while my husband and sons were still at the park. I did not turn on the bedroom light, but walked around to my side of the bed to turn on the nightstand lamp. I looked down at the floor and could see something on the floor, but wasn't sure what it was. When I turned on the light, I noticed that some of the caramel corn I bought the previous day was on the floor and the Disney park bag had been chewed. Then I looked back at the wall by the bed and noticed there was a little caramel corn by the wall.

I went out of the bedroom and called the front desk and mentioned there was a rodent that had been in our room. I have to say they were quite receptive and were going to have pest control come to the room. Shortly after we hung up, pest control arrived. She ended up moving the bed away from the wall to see if she could find the rodent. She couldn't find it, but I went to look behind the bed by the wall, and caramel corn was all over behind the bed.

We don't have any idea what critter decided to help himself to the caramel corn, but we do think there is a possibility that it may have been living for a few days behind the bed or possibly up in the bed frame. Either it had to crawl up on the furniture or stand on its' back legs to chew open the bag of caramel corn.

The property where we stayed was very good about the whole thing--even though I was pretty freaked out about it. We switched rooms for the night, and they sent a bellman to come help with the move.

Where were you? What was pest control going to do? You moved rooms just for one night?

Shiver me timbers!

Probably a mouse...that's pretty typical of mouse behaviour!! I'm glad they moved you with no issue!! There is no way I would have been able to sleep in that room knowing that a mouse was, either, still in the room somewhere, or able to get in and out of the room.

Heck..That's nothing....That's just part of the 60th anniversary magic....Consider yourself lucky to get turn down service from MR. Mickey MOUSE himself...lol.

On a serious note. Sorry this happened and glad they moved you.

Isn't that sweet? Mickey decided to visit your room. Seriously, it could happen anywhere and especially in Florida and especially at DW since it is in what was once a swamp. Sounds like they handled it well and I'm glad they moved ya'll, I admit I might have been a little freaked to stay in the room after knowing the little scamp had been there playing.

There are rat traps all over the "world". They are easy to miss until you know what to look for- THEN you realize they're all over the place.

Sounds like a mouse or some other critter got in when mousekeeping was cleaning the room. They will usually prop the doors open so they can get in and out to their carts quicker. It would only take a moment for something to scoot in.

This is true and happens very easily, but I'm curious which resort the OP was at. This scenario is plausible for values and moderates but maybe a little more of a stretch for deluxe resorts that have interior hallways. Also curious if it was a ground floor room.

Sorry that happened - yuck! But: my two DS would have gotten a kick out of Mickey visiting - and talked about that long after the trip was over (more so than the rides etc.)!

Pest control brought in a pole-like tool to try and catch it. Pest control said sometimes flying squirrels will get in or possums. Sometimes a window may be left open, or has been mentioned, a door is left open during housekeeping, and a critter gets in. My husband was thinking possibly a rat--don't know. Could have been a mouse. It was just really freaky.

Yes, it was a ground floor room. It was our last night at Disney. The resort did such a good job in handling the situation. And, yes, I definitely think that from now on we will try and get a room that is not on the ground floor.

Yes, we figure some day we will all laugh about this incident. My sons thought I was being a wimp for wanting to change rooms!! I would have never gotten any sleep knowing there was something in the room.

Also, I've learned a lesson not to leave any food in plastic bags lying around. All food should be stored in some type of hard container.

Glad it all worked out okay for you, but yikes!

I always ask for a high floor, and even then in Florida you can get critters. One time we were checking out (thankfully) and a huge palmetto bug (like 3 or 4 inches long) scurried in and under the fridge at Marriott's Grande Vista. We were on a high floor, but they have external corridors there (like value and moderate resorts for the most part do). I was glad we were leaving!

We've had lizards also - I let the kids take care of removing them from the room!

High floor can help a little I think! Plus it's usually more quiet to me.

Mickey can scamper up stairs and even under doors, he's a clever little critter. Seriously, being upstairs might cut down on some of the critter activity but most of those little devils can climb or slither. I think Disney should have resort cats, they would have a blast.

I seriously probably would have died. Rodents are my all time biggest fear!!!! I live in constant fear at home that there are mice. People always wonder how I can love Mickey & Minnie so much!! LOL!! So curious to know which resort now!!! Glad they were receptive and moved you quickly.

This IS the reason we get upper floor rooms now...a duck that visited me in a ground floor room at CBR made me realize that anything can visit...and not all quack to let you know they are there. Ew.
