Cringing at the blatant dishonesty I experienced today

well, My DD stopped at the store with her dad (me ex) and they were walking down the cosmetics aisle and she found a $20 bill. Told her Dad she found money and he said good. What !! She got home and told me what happened, bragging that she now has an extra $20 to spend. She said her Dad told her that it was cool she found some money or "Score!" I couldn't believe it ! I called him and he agreed that's what he said and that she doesn't need to report money found since he lost enough that it is payback. Ugh !!! I asked him what store, he lectured me about calling it in and that it was stupid. I hung up with him and called the store to report it. Nobody has called me saying they lost it but even the lady who answered the phone couldn't believe that he left without reporting it. I left my name and #. I explained to my DD about the consequences of her actions. What if scenario's and she couldn't understand cuz her Dad said it was ok. She has even lost money before and been very upset about it but her Dad said that this way a way of paying ehr back for all the money they had lost in the past. UGH !!

Sorry.....

Glad you got it back and I agree you should have reported him. Dishonest people don't deserve jobs when there are lots of honest people out there looking !

Part of me was feeling bad for thinking the guy was a sleazebag, since he did give me the $ back. Now I'm glad I gave him the stinkeye when I saw him later in that shopping trip! I am thankful that personally, I raised my kids right in this respect- a few months my DD20 brought to my attention that there was a deposit (over 1000) in her checking account that she did not make. I offered to contact the bank for her to ask the source, as she did not believe it was hers. She did not hesitate to say ok, and a week or so after I called the bank corrected the error & reversed the deposit. Now, my ex would've had that money spent an hour after he found it, but that's another story. DD7 found a little girl's wallet stuffed with $ at a buffet we were at once. We helped her to explain to the wait staff, who found the little girl that it belonged to. That little girl thanked her so much it just made her feel so good about herself! DD16 is still a work in progress, but one day she'll get it....

Glad you got your money back :goodvibes

Here's my feel good story. We were on a cruise this past summer DD had saved all year for her own spending money. She even bought herself this flash gaudy gold Juice Couture (knockoff, I'm sure) wristlet in Belize. She just loved that wristlet.

We go to Key West - now were on USA land and we can use our cellphones again. I called my mom, we usually speak 5 times a day - so 5 days without talking to her, well we had a lot to catch up on. DD spoke with my mother and she too was excited.

Next stop.....shopping. DD found a straw hat he wanted, but......wait for it.......the wristlet is gone. We hop a cab to where we thought it was and of course it was gone.

DD had my business card in it, with my cell phone number and a note that says if lost please call (we've done this drill at MK already :rotfl2:)
I told her that if they find it, it will show up in our cabin in a day or two. Knowing full well it wouldn't show up ;)

It was found, right where we left it. A couple picked it up, looked in, got my name from my card and approached the ship in the dock and asked if we were passengers. Our ship said yes we were and took the wallet......2 hours later it appeared on her pillow. I tracked down those on the ship that helped - but no one had contact info of the "couple" :goodvibes

So glad you got it back. People are so dishonest. At least (thankfully) he fessed up after you called him out, and thankfully you saw him put it in his pocket.

I was checking out at Winn Dixie one day, through the self check out and I had requested 10.00 back. Well, I walked right out without getting it from the slot. I realized it and turned back around only to pass the old lady that was behind me in line and when I got back, the money was gone. She had to have taken it. It made me SO mad, but then I had to think that ,maybe she needed that money more than I did.
I still think about it everytime I go in there.

Glad you got your $$ back, LUCKY you!:yay:

Times are HARD for many people and he did not steal it, he picked it up off the floor. I have no idea what the store/employee policy is........
I am not siding with him, just saying that he did not take it from a purse or anything. Yes, still a loser though..........
But when asked, he should have said YES, instead of deception! They say what goes around comes around............Karma BITES!!
Again, just glad you got your money!:cheer2:

I worked for a deaprtment store in HR and we had a strict rule if someone dropped money it went to Customer Service. Our security department would honesty shop associates at times if we had the feeling they were stealing. Security would even have a fake customer come up to the associate with a department store credit card payment (cash and statement in the the envelope) and employees would sometimes pocket that! I have seen it all since I had to sit in on the security interview and then suspend them w/o pay on the spot. The best was once an associate bought tickets from Ticketmaster (located at our Cust Serv dept), got the tickets and then she went to her department and processed a return on her own store credit card. Hello?!?!... Ticketmaster is non-refundable and sent up a BIG red flag in the system!

BTW- I am glad you got your money back!

Like one of the pp's has said, I would report found money but not the amount and leave a name & number to contact. My youngest DS found $20 at a store and wrestled with keeping it. I let him decide what he wanted to do while we shopped. I think the biggest thing that got him was "what if it was yours that you lost, wouldn't you want someone to turn it in?" He was told that if someone didn't claim it within 10 days it would be his. He called at the ten day mark, they told him someone claimed it. He wondered after that if the someone who claimed it was someone who worked at the store and saw the $20 in lost & found as free money. :confused3 It was a hard lesson to learn, he never knew 100% for sure that the person who claimed was the rightful owner or just an opportunistic employee.

Glad you story ended up a happy ending. Mine involves $500.00 that I am being cheated out of. My guess is I won't be getting it back though.

Not too long ago we had to have a new driveway put in since ours was really in bad shape. A local company in Naperville called O'Shea Asphalt, Concrete, and Brick put our new drive way in. (I warned Bob Doyle I would bad mouth him ever chance I got so people out my way beware of this man)

Any way. He told us that if we needed extra gravel there would be an additional small fee for that. Well it ended up where we did. He had one man here tearing up the driveway, and the man told me the measurements of where the gravel was needed. Mind you the driveway is all torn up and Bob calls me tells me it will be $900.00 more for gravel. When I questioned him as to why it was so expensive he told me it was for the gravel and labor.

He later told my DH out of the goodness of his heart he would knock off $100.00. I called around and got several estimates from landscaping places and all told me gravel with delivery for the amount I needed was $300.00 tops. So that means Bob charged us for $500.00 for the man to take 10 extra minutes with the bobcat to spread out the remaining gravel. Same man also told me he only got $40 for the entire day.

I so far contacted BBB, and Lisa Madagan, and both more or less have given me the impression that I might as well just eat the $500.00 extra. Who knows maybe I won't have to, but we will see. So yes, there is plenty of dishonest people out there. Bob did even more but this is very long already.

 I hope you get it back.. but it sounds like you have done the right thing

My story has a happy ending..

At POP a few years ago, DH was taking stuff from our car to the room and dropped his wallet.. cash, credit cards, WDW pass, room key etc..He got to the room, I put stuff away, the kids grab a bus and headed to a park..when DH discoves his wallet missing. We retraced his steps, but no wallet.. We discussed plan of action, to cancel cards etc.. but we went to the front desk first.. and a VERY NICE PERSON found the wallet and had turned it into the desk.. ;) nothing missing.. even the cash..
