It showed the preview for the next episode and it said it was new, but it looked really familiar. They showed them looking at a laptop computer with a camera attached and it said something like the unsub was watching them and that he was recording the murders as he committed them. Wasn't there already an episode like that?:surfweb:

CM hasn't done it yet but Numb3rs did an episode with a very similar plot and NCIS did one close to it. I'm sure other procedurals have done episodes with web cams too, probably CSI, but I can't think of which ones off the top of my head.

Yes I remember that one..was that the episode with James Van Der Beek from Dawson's Creek?

I'm not sure who was in it, but it was definitely Criminal Minds because I remember Garcia freaking out as she was watching the people get murdered. I think it was the one where Reid is captured and the unsub shows him people being observed and asks him to choose someone to be the next victim, had him drugged, etc.

Latest in today from the Hollywood Reporter - which is the show biz industry's credible news source:

CBS picks up 'Criminal Minds' spinoff

"Word has it that CBS was lukewarm on the pilot for the "Criminal Minds" spinoff, but the network is picking up the show anyway. Given that this is a format that clearly works for the network, and has star Forest Whitaker, it's not surprising the network would want another "CI" on its roster, at least for midseason. "

(I think there was a typo above. :scratchin The last line should have read "CM" instead of "CI"?

Here's an older blog entry. Seems CBS was as lukewarm as we were about the 2.0 introduction episode:

Pilot buzz update: Top contenders for next season

"CBS: "Hawaii Five-O" remains the most likely drama to receive a series order. Brett Ratner's CIA drama "Chaos" and legal drama "Defenders" with Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell are considered top contenders. Nobody seems to like the "Criminal Minds" spinoff, yet most believe the drama will get picked up for midseason anyway. . ."

Official word about whether the original CM will be picked up for Fall 2010 comes out this Wed. Seems like it would be stupid to insert a spinoff of the series they are lukewarm about and cancel the successful original. But, you never know.

NBC firing Jay Leno and then putting him back wasn't the brightest idea for TV, either. :sad2:

NEW episode tonight - even though as EllenFrasier said, it looks similar to another one they already did.

I've never heard of airing death videos online, (except in Middle East hostage takings of U.S. journalists,) only of teenage beatings, like the ones with mean girls picking on & beating a classmate up. But, if 3 TV shows have aired similar themes, I guess it's somewhat prevalent.

Next week is the season finale, (rumored cliffhanger.) The episode is titled: Our Darkest Hour. :scared1: :sad1:

If you haven't already read on the CBS thread:
Criminal Minds, the original series, PLUS the CM 2.0 spinoff (don't know if it will be called that later,) have both been picked up for the fall season!!! :cool1:  :thumbsup2 :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

It would have sucked if they have a cliffhanger next week & the series got canceled.

CM (original) will stay in the same Wed nite time slot and CM 2.0 will be a mid-season replacement when something else gets canceled or ends.

Here is the latest CBS blurb out today:

"The Midseason Series:

CRIMINAL MINDS SPINOFF stars Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker in a drama about an elite team of agents within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit who use unconventional methods of investigation and aggressive tactics to capture the nation’s most nefarious criminals. Unit chief Special Agent Sam Cooper (Whitaker) is a mentally and physically fierce natural leader who is not afraid to put his career on the line in order to stand by his convictions. Cooper strives to avoid political bureaucracy and has handpicked an eclectic group of profilers to work outside the confines of Quantico: Former British Special Forces soldier Mick Rawson (Matt Ryan), confident and handsome, works as a highly-skilled marksman with an undiluted eye for rooting out evil; John “Prophet” Sims (Michael Kelly), a former convict with a street-smart edge and a calm, Zen-like presence, who is determined to make amends for past sins; and Gina LaSalle (Beau Garrett), an attractive, tough agent armed with a cunning sense of perception. This exceptional group of FBI operatives is strong in their beliefs and steadfast in their mission to bring the country’s most dangerous criminals to justice. Chris Mundy, Edward Allen Bernero, Mark Gordon and Deborah Spera are executive producers for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios."

Over the summer, Bicker listed in his Summer TV thread, that CM (original) will air repeats from THIS season 5, on CBS. This season has most of the Reaper storyline. Older seasons, of course, are on A&E and ION. (I will NOT be bumping this thread just to announce repeats. I don't want nasty PMs in my box: "We get it already :headache: - this summer is repeats." :rotfl: )

Reid's got a new look! I loved Hotch's remark. :rotfl:

What is up with Spencer's hair? He looks like he's got a girl's haircut! Or a Beattle wanna be.:lmao:

I guess he's going for a new haircut for next season. What ever cut he has next episode, he has to keep till the season premiere in the fall. Will this cut even be IN? :confused3

He looks like he's fourteen again. :p Talk about confusing newbies who will be watching the first season for the first time. "Wait, which is the earlier episode? Reid looks younger in season 6 than in season 1?" :headache:

This episode was way too graphic for me. I could have done without the in real time sound effects, too. :crazy2: I hope they dial that down next season.

OH MY GAHHH! Spence looks HaWT!
I just started watching tonights episode, and I have avoided reading what's been written tonight so I wouldn't see spoilers. I just had to get on here and drool!
Ok, I'm going to try and watch the epsiode now...hope I'm not too distracted by MGG!!

Spencer does look great. Just very young.

I wondered if he got the cut because he's filming something else. According to the IMDb.com, he's just completed filming two other projects.

It does make him look younger. But with the trendy hair, you can definately tell that he was a male model. Those cheekbones...ohhhh.
His hair may make him too hot to be Spencer. I don't know. But he was fun to look at. lol

Q&A: Matthew Gray Gubler of Criminal Minds
DAVID MARTINDALE
Special to dfw.com
Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2010

In most ways, Matthew Gray Gubler is the polar opposite of Dr. Spencer Reid, the brilliant yet socially inept criminal profiler he has played for five seasons on CBS’s Criminal Minds. For starters, Gubler points out, “Reid’s a genius. He’s much smarter than I am.” Also, Gubler has a warm and winning personality when he’s not in character. He’s a people person, something Reid will never be. That isn’t to say, however, that the actor is totally free of oddball eccentricities. Consider, for example, Gubler’s insistence on wearing mismatched socks at all times. Seems his grandmother advised him when he was a kid that dressing this way brings good luck. “Technically I guess it’s an affectation,” Gubler says. “But I’m pretty superstitious. I probably will never wear matching socks as long as I live. The one time I did [while filming a scene in the movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou], I sprained my ankle. So I make a conscious effort every day to be sure they’re mismatched. Otherwise, it could be a disaster.” Maybe his grandmother was right. His socks didn’t match the day he landed his role on Criminal Minds, after all. At the time, he wasn’t even especially interesting in becoming an actor. To paraphrase Mars Blackmon in those old Michael Jordan/Nike commercials, “It’s gotta be the socks!” Criminal Minds

Is it true that you got the role of Reid even though you really weren’t interested in being an actor or in doing TV? “Yeah, I really sort of fell into it. I’m so lucky. I studied directing. And I had a directing agent who, long story short, said, ‘Hey, why don’t you go in a try out for this TV show pilot. There’s a character on there that’s sort of interesting.’ And I went in and got it. It was sort of a miracle, I guess, because I didn’t have any major interest in acting. But I since have fallen madly in love with it. It’s been great.”

That’s a great story. But actors who have worked much harder for their breakthrough roles, as well as those who are still waiting for their big breaks, must resent how easily it happened for you. “Yeah, I’ve experienced that a little bit. But I’m of the belief that, if you love acting, then you can act anywhere. You can do local plays. You can do something. It’s maybe only people who are more interested in getting notoriety that really resent me. And if they’re only in it for their own fame and ego, then I don’t really care if they’re annoyed. I just want to entertain people and I’m lucky to get to do that on a big scale. But if I weren’t on the show, I would still be doing everything in my power to entertain people, even if it were on a much smaller platform, even if it were only for my mother.”

You also have a very different acting role, as the voice of Simon the Chipmunk, in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. The second one, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, is available on DVD on March 30. After doing a show like Criminal Minds, is a Chipmunks comedy healthy for your psyche? “It’s incredibly healthful. That show is overwhelmingly dark and it does get to you from time to time. But that said, the Criminal Minds set is the probably funniest and most light-hearted set of any show on TV. We try to keep the material from getting to us. Still, taking any break from that world was well enjoyed by me.”

Is there a story behind landing the Chipmunks gig? Were you up against big-time voiceover stars or A-list film stars? “Yeah, it was me vs. Marlon Brando and Brad Pitt. They were evidently up for it. I’m totally kidding. I don’t know how it happened. I got a phone call one day. They said, ‘Would you like to come in and do a test for Simon the Chipmunk?’ And I jumped at the opportunity because I’m a big fan of the TV series from the ’80s. My dad had the 1958 record and we listened to them all the time at Christmas. I was born into a very Chipmunk-friendly family. So I came in and it all worked out wonderfully.”
“That’s exactly how it was. I didn’t meet any of them until the premiere. Weird, huh? But I felt like I knew them well. After being in the booth for that long and hearing their voices, you get a sense of who they are.”

So with which character do you identify more: Spencer Reid or Simon the Chipmunk? “It’s funny. I do see similarities between all characters I play. But Reid definitely is very different from me. I feel closer to Simon in many ways, to be honest, than I do to Reid, although I look more like Reid, of course. But it does feel like I put a costume on when I play him. When I look in the mirror, I realize I’ve become an entirely different person all of a sudden. It’s a strange feeling, but I’ve gotten used to it.”

Do you think, as an actor and a creative artist, that you have enough insight into the human condition that you could be a profiler? “Well, I think I could fake it for a while. There are about 11 real profilers in the world. I’ve met six or seven of them. And after doing 110 episodes of the show, inevitably you find that you’ve learned quite a bit more than you ever thought you’d know about profiling. So I think I would be able to sort of get by. I think I could fake it for longer than anyone would want me to. But I think I prefer just to pretend.”

Yay! A Criminal Minds thread! :) I love this show and love me some Garcia/Morgan!! Missed the last two so i need to catch up. Wish CBS would allow you to watch the shows like all the other networks online..

Welcome! Join in anytime. :goodvibes

ABC actually produces CM. Somewhere along the way, whether due to lack of contract negotiations or whatnot, CBS doesn't show full episodes online. :( I wish they would, too.

I haven't posted on this thread in a couple months, but I'm back :cool1: Last week's episode was sooo creepy!!! I loved it! I'm so excited for the finale tomorrow, but cliffhangers drive me insane :rotfl: I'll be thinking about it all summer and when the first episode of season 6 starts I'll be like this :hyper: :lmao:

I'm actually watching some season 3 episodes right now :) My mom got me the seasons 3 and 4 box sets for my birthday last month :woohoo: Although her birthday is the day before mine and she loves CM as much as I do so they were probably a present for herself too :rotfl:
