Crib Rental - A Baby's Best Friend vs All About Kids vs Children's Furniture Rental

I think it is pretty unlikely that you will need to switch rooms, and if you did because there was a problem, you could have the resort move the crib for you, probably someone in housekeeping would do that. We have never had a problem with a room at Disney and we have been at one of the resorts every year for the last 15 years. If you are worried about waiting until you see your room, then I would arrange with CFR to have them deliver and set up the crib once you are checked in. You don't have to wait in your room, someone from housekeeping will let Roy in and will stay with him to lock up until he his done.

I don't know why people worry so much. Just do what you are doing, make the plans and everything will work out fine. You can drive yourself crazy thinking about the negative "what if's" all the time. I'm sure you will arrive for your vacation like we have, and everything worked out just fine! Good Luck!

Actually it’s more common than you would probably think, and we have had it happen to us twice before. I also like to place the crib myself; I have done it the last two trips and it is very easy.

As far as having a CM or housekeeping move it, not the best choice. Traci at ABBF told me that was one of the main reasons why they had to stop setting up, as engineering/housekeeping was damaging their cribs by trying to relocate it assembled. She said they had three busted in one week. She also said that after 9/11 it was getting more difficult to get into a room after the guest had checked in, even with a CM.

You don’t have to drive yourself crazy with the “what if’s”, but a little planning makes for a smooooooth vacation. And with little ones in tow, I'm all for the less bumps the better!

I agree with Eagle: a few minutes, and we’re off to the parks!

One more thing, I know it wasn't mentioned on this thread but if you are looking to have a grocery service deliver so you don't have to do it either on the way from the airport or after you get to the resort, we have used WeGoShop and they are great. They are at www.wegoshop.com, and click on the Lake Buena Vista location.

What ever works for your family is the way to go. We plan very well for our trips with 2 kids and as far as traveling with a baby, it is best to have everything planned out to make things as smooth as possible. As far as the crib rental companies go, my husband and I did not want to hassle with having a bellman bring up the crib and calling them to take it down before you check out, and my husband wanted the crib set up in our room when we arrived. He told me he was on vacation and did not want to assemble a thing! We always arrive in the evening anyways, so as soon as we checked into our room, we put our dd down for bed immediately since she was so tired and crabby from the long flight!

Good Luck to all of you with your planning, and I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing vacation! :wave2:

Maybe I will call Roy and tell him to wait until I confirm that we have checked in. I will just check to see how much of a potential delay that might cause. Hopefully, all will work out. I will post when I get back regarding. Thanks again to everyone who's responded thus far.

Ok, now you've got me thinking I should rent a crib. I planned on just using the pack 'n play that the resort provides. But my son is 2 years old and hasn't used a pack 'n play in over a year. And the darn things can't be comfortable. Should I rent a crib???

The pack-n-plays have never worked very well for sleeping in our family, except when the children were very, very little - a few months old. They "rustle" so much, are so deep to lean down into to lay the baby down, won't feel like home. I say go for a crib if...

1.) You will be there for a significant stay - more than just a day or two.

2.) You don't want the baby to sleep in the bed with you, or you two just don't sleep well that way.

3.) You have the money to spend. In our case, Gram is springing for it. She really is the best mom.

4.) The room you will be staying in is large enough for a full size crib. Honestly though, I guess if a pack-n-play would fit, a crib would too.

Good luck with your decision :)

I'd go for a full size crib. My son has never slept well in a pack n play so we rented a crib during our last vacation at WDW (in December), when he was 8 months old. He'll be 13 months during our next trip in May, and I can't imagine putting him in a pack n play. Aside from the comfort issue, part of our bedtime routine includes me reading him a story sitting by his crib while he looks at me through the slats -- can't do that in a pack n' play -- I just don't want to mess with his routine overly much when we're on vacation. For a trip to WDW, so much money is spent already, the extra on a crib rental really is a small drop in the bucket. And having the baby sleep well (or as well as possible) will make your vacation more enjoyable!

I'd go with a full size crib too, especially if your DS is an active sleeper. We used a PnP on our last trip for DS's first birthday and he did pretty well but rolled over a few times and woke himself up maybe once per night, tolerable while on vacation I guess...but, last month we took a trip to grandma & grandpa's, a business trip for me and DS came along - the first night in the PnP at my parents' house DS rolled over and woke himself up maybe 5 times...since I was needing to work and the trip was a week long we ended up buying a crib, well worth the $$$! So needless to say we're renting on our next trip to WDW in May.

Oh, I should add that we called housekeeping at Boardwalk for a full size crib during our last visit and they brought one up - it was horrible: super, super soft mattress with really loose springs supporting it, not to mention it was very institutional and cold stainless steel. We sent it back down and used the PnP.

Good Luck!

We have not been with our children to wdw before and this time we are staying at the Poly. I have been planning on using the second bed for my DD and using the resort's cribs for my twin DS (2yr). I did not realize that what they give you is a pack and play! It sounds as if what you get is not that great and that maybe we should also be looking into renting cribs, but the expence auotmatically goes double with twins. I am also wondering if we are going to be able to fit two cribs into a room. How clean and safe did the pack and plays appear? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I also thought I read a mention about renting toddler beds? Does anyone have any info on these? We are hoping to get the boys out of thier cribs this summer before the trip. They would gladly go back to cribs or pack a plays for the week, but maybe the toddler beds would fit better?
Thanks, Paula

I've rented both from ABBF while staying at the Poly and don't think 2 toddler beds would be any easier to fit in the room than 2 cribs. The toddler beds require no assembly-it was a molded plastic toddler bed with a regular crib matress. All very clean from ABBF. MY DD loved sleeping in the toddler bed.

Could you put both twins in a queen bed together with side rails? Your DD could sleep in the daybed-it has a regular twin matress. Could one twin sleep in daybed and another in a toddler bed. I can't remember what the daybed "platform" looked like-don't know if you could put a side rail on that. Could you sleep in one queen with one twin with a side rail and your DH sleep in the other queen with other twin and DD on daybed? The Poly rooms are big but I think you'ld really have to move things around to fit 2 cribs/toddler beds in there.

On my last trip it was me & my 21 month old DD in one queen with a side rail. My DH and DS(4) in another queen with side rail, DD(5) in toddler bed and adult friend in daybed.

Thanks so much for the info. I don't know if the boys woudl sleep in the same bed. They did when they were very small but they would wake each other up. But I think that I could put one in the day bed and one in a toddler bed and let my daughter sleep in the other queen. Can you get bed rails there? and can you get 4 of them ???? I think this would definately work! My mother in law is also considering going and staying with us. This set up would still work out if she chose to come because she can sleep with my DD in the queen! I love solving problems before they happen, Thanks!

What would you do with 4? I've gotten 2-one for each queen so I'm sure they'd bring 4 if you asked. I always thought the ones free from Disney were fine. ABBF does rent those too and I'm sure those would be clean.

Like I said-I just can't remember what the matress sits on on the daybed. If its just slats and not something solid then I'm not sure a bedrail would work on that but perhaps you could just put pillows on the side-one side is against the wall.

If your MIL goes you may want to consider concierge. It is about $100 more per night for the room. So if you got a regular room you'd pay $25/night extra adult fee and if you go concierge its still just the $25/night extra adult fee. We find it really convenient and we like having the lounge to relax in too.

I was thinking we would need the extras for each side of the queem for my DD if she is by her self. Neither my DH or I like to sleep with her because she is like a tornado in the bed and could likely fall off either side of the bed. We woudl most likely need one for each of the boys as well but now that you made me think about it I am sure we would not need one for a toddler bed. I am going to be looking at the abbf website I think and see about prices for the tod. bed.

With the concierge floor it sounds like you were saying that each night is an extra 100 and then the extra adult fee is also 25/nt on top of that. I am not sure what that will do with our budget. I think that will probly put us at more than a stay at the GF with out concierge. It would work I think if my MIL footed that portion of the bill or atleast part of it. We are also using a package with AAA, so I don't know how that would all work out but we will definately run the numbers. Thanks, P

Thanks, I did not know that Disney provides free bedrails. Are these guaranteed to be available or limited in quantity (so first come first served)?

cinderkay-don't know why I didn't think to mention this before. On our next trip instead of renting a toddler bed for my DD I am going to bring a readybed with me-a sleeping bag with built in mattress. (www.readybed.com). Perhaps you could do this for your twins. 2 would fit on the floor and you can just pick them up during the day. I had read reviews on amazon of kids rolling over in them and then the matress is on top of them so that might be a concern for your 2 year olds. My DD hasn't actually slept the whole night on hers yet. I will be trying it out before our trip and plan to bring it on a shorter trip closer to home before the Disney trip.

can anyone tell me more about the assembly of the ABBF cribs??? Their website says "no tools required" so I can't imagine what type of crib it is.

Also, has anyone ever rented from Orlando Family Rentals???http://www.familyrentalsorlando.com My friend rented a stroller from them and said their customer service was wonderful.

I don't remember exactly how long it took DH to assemble the ABBF crib, which is a full size wooden crib -- I think the brand we had was Delta. I think it took him around 10 minutes. I've copied and pasted the crib assembly instructions portion of the sheet ABBF emailed us before our December 2004 rental below (a copy of which is also attached to the full size wooden crib upon delivery):

The following are instructions on how to assemble/dissemble the crib:

1) Remove all of the pieces from the box. You will have a mattress support board, two side mattress board supports, two end pieces, and two side rails.

2) There will be plastic pieces at the bottom of each side of the two end pieces. There are two round screw like pieces at the end of each mattress board support. Insert the mattress board supports into each side of the end pieces in the bottom groves of the end pieces, making sure that the groves that are cut out on the mattress board supports are on the top of the support. Otherwise, when you insert the mattress support board, it will be too low to the floor and you will not be able to fasten the board in properly. Once you have locked the supports into the end pieces, stand inside the crib and push down on the side rails with your weight to make sure they are in tightly.

3) Insert the mattress board into the center of the crib. The mattress support board should be on the top of the groves that are cut into the mattress board supports. There are small metal slides at each corner of the mattress supports. Slide them over the board to secure it in place.

4) Take one of the side rails with the plastic teething rail up, and slide it over the plastic slides that are located on the bottom of the end pieces. When you slide the rails onto the end pieces, there will be a tab at the bottom of each end piece. Push those tabs in and the rail will slide almost to the floor. You will squeeze the grips located at the top of the rail and slide it back up toward the top of the crib. The rail will connect with the plastic pieces located at the top of the crib. Once the side rail is on, make sure that the plastic tabs pop back out. This will keep the side rails from sliding to the floor when you lower the rail. Repeat this step for both sides of the crib.

Why are people renting cribs from another company? Doesn't Disney offer fullsize crib rentals? Just asking as I am planning our trip.

Disney has pack and plays in the resorts, which is fine if your child can sleep in one through the night. Ours never did; good for naps, bad for full night. That is why we rent a crib from ABBF. The assembly is so easy, I did it while DH was getting the other kids settled and unpacked, and I'm no whiz.

ABBF is always a pleasure to work with, and their items are always like new and very very clean. We use them everytime we are at WDW.

Incidentally, we do a lot of traveling around the country (DH business trips), and ABBF by far is the best we have experienced.
