Crib Rental - A Baby's Best Friend vs All About Kids vs Children's Furniture Rental

Another option to renting baby equipment on vacation is going to the local consignment store or Salvation Army or Goodwill and buying it, and then when you are done, donate/consign it back. We were in Hawaii and needed a high chair or booster chair, but the cost of rentals seemed out of hand. We went to the equivelent of the Salvation Army and bought a booster chair for $4. We gave it back when we were done.

Why are people renting cribs from another company? Doesn't Disney offer fullsize crib rentals? Just asking as I am planning our trip.

I am wondering the same thing. We are going with MIL/FIL in May, and our two kids - ages 2.5 and 10 months. My MIL has reserved two full size cribs from Disney (staying in Beach Club Villas, one-bedroom). We were planning on using one for the baby, and using just the mattress on the floor for the toddler. However, now with all of these posts, I'm wondering if the Disney fullsize cribs aren't good? What's wrong with them? Are the mattresses bad, or are they just small, or rickety, or what?

I know my baby won't sleep in a pack and play. So, if it's possible that we will end up with a PNP instead of the reserved crib, then I might just go on the safe side and rent a crib from one of these outside places.

PP, thanks for the recommendation of the ready bed. I might do that instead of the crib mattress on the floor idea for my toddler. We are going to be traveling this summer and he could use it then too when we are staying in hotels or with relatives. It was only $30 at Amazon when I just checked online.

** 3 more weeks to Disney ** Better figure this out soon!

I have a hunch that if you press for more info or request to speak to a supervisor about it, you will discover that what they are calling cribs are really PNP; they are in most Disney resort rooms as standard. A few of the resorts have a few of the all-metal/infirmary-style cribs that are actually about 2/3 the size of a full crib, but I understand they are few as they have gotten into the PNP as standard.

Add us to the very long list of happy crib renters (and strollers) from ABBF. They had everything already delivered and waiting for us, and everything was very clean and almost new. I was very impressed at how nice everything was. And assembly was a snap.

I saw the ready beds in target yesterday for 29.00. We rented a crib for ds20months from children's furniture seven nights for 61.00 (no linens..I'll bring mine from home) and they set it up and I'm bringing a twin areo bed for my ds5

Just wondering -- those who ended up booking with Children's Furniture Rental as a result of this thread, how was your experience?

Maybe you wouldn't want to do this for a crib, but when we were in Hawaii and we needed some kind of high chair for an almost 1 year old, we went to a local thrift store and got the kind that you belt to a chair for like $3 (as opposed to renting one for $2 per day). When we were done, we just donated it back.
Also, how about buying a pack-n-play portable crib and bringing? It will be good for lots of trips.

The Disney resorts provide pack-n-plays for free so if your baby can sleep in a pnp, no need to do anything. Renting is the option for those of us who want our babies to have a regular full size crib with full size crib mattress.

We just returned from Disney on Sunday & used Children's Furniture Rental. The crib was already set up when we got there along w/the bed linens. No problem...the crib was clean & Kaitlyn slept good all week. I would have never heard of Children's if it wasn't for this board.

Great! I just called Roy at CFR yesterday and reserved a crib for our December trip. We always bring our bed linens so the price is terrific for a week of use plus set up/take down.

Yeah, me, too. It is too bad Roy does not join the Internet crowd and create a website for CFR. From the positive reviews I've heard over the years on DIS I'm sure he would increase his business dramatically if he had a web presence. I know the reason I had never tried him in the past (and only used ABBF) was my hesitancy dealing with a business that did not have a website, and I am sure there are many other DIS members like me. Odd, I know, but I'm so used to checking out terms, products, etc. online. But he and his wife must be very comfortable with the business they have without a website.

I just spent 9 nights at BWV with DH and DD1.5 We did not have a PNP in our room, when we called housekeeping they asked us if we wanted a PNP or a full sized crib. So some resorts have full sized cribs. It was metal and looked like something you might find in a hospital. I guess it is better to have metal for cleaning reasons. I think I might look into renting something for our March trip.

I'm sitting here right now on our bed at the BC, looking at my twins sleeping in the lovely, full-sized cribs we got FREE simply by calling housekeeping and asking for them.

The first 2 nights we had one full sized and one half sized portacrib but then we were able to switch that one our for a full sized. They have a nice mattress and we have a flat-sheet secured over it.

Yes, it's metal. Who cares? They don't sleep on the metal part...

Lucky you! I think the problem is a full size crib is not guaranteed and it appears from people's experiences on the boards is that it is a very rare occasion, even at deluxe resorts and certainly unheard of at the non-deluxe resort. The vast majority of folks get either PNP or the half sized portacribs. After spending all the money on a WDW vacation, I am willing to spend a bit more for a *guaranteed* full size crib and I want to know that in advance because even one night without it means my baby will not sleep well and he'll let us know it. The last time DS had to sleep in a metal portacrib during vacation he ended up in our bed the middle of the night -- the first time ever -- because the crib was too small for him (as he has a habit of rolling around) and he ended up banging against the metal bars over and over and hearing that *clang* or *creak* -- he woke up and refused to return to sleep in that crib. No more of that for us.
