They take credit cards about every where don't they? I hate to carry cash.

Yes, 99% of the time you can use a cc'd or room charge. You do need some cash for some of the outdoor vendors and carts. IIRC some of th smaller carts for water/soda ice cream require cash.

We use our room charge/CC for just about everything. Instead of cash for the small vendors, we even use our credit card to purchase Disney Dollars in $20 increments every few days as we need it, so that can also be on the card. It doesn't count as a cash advance, just a purchase, and we get points for FF miles on all of our purchases.

I like the room key the best, because if it is misplaced, it can be cancelled and replaced IMMEDIATELY, whereas the best credit card takes a minimum of 24 hours to be replaced, and also your credit card is only flashed once to one resort CM, not every location at WDW.

I like your idea. Very good point. Thanks for the tip.

I like the idea of buying Disney dollars through a credit card to use for the vendors.

::yes::

I hate to carry cash, too, and like the idea of using the room charge, but I'd be afraid of over-charging. How do you guys handle keeping up with or setting daily spending limits?

Do the vendors take Disney money? I never thought of that idea!

I don't really set spending limits. I mean it's not like I can blow 10 grand on souveneirs. I know that I have to keep things in check. But I don't break it down by day. I know about how much I'm willing to spend overall. Now I'm pretty good about keeping a ballpark total in my head as the trip goes on, but you could request a copy of your bill every morning or couple of mornings just to get an idea of what your balance is.

And when it comes to food...well I have to eat. I'm not going to not eat because I've reached a daily limit. :) But after many trips I can tell you within 40 or 50 dollars how much I'll spend on food for my upcoming 14 day trip. I guess I'm pretty predictable when it comes to how much I eat. :)

I usually bring a computer with me and while I'm checking email, kind of add up the daily receipts in Excel.

We're not big souvenier folks since we've been quite a bit, so meals are our main expense and we pretty much know how much that is going to be so I really don't worry about it.

I also like to use your room charge for almost everything. This past Aug we took travlers checks and I brought home almost all of them because we used the room key so much. I also earn cash back on my Discover card since that is the card I give the front desk. It is like extra money!!

I think having some cash is still important, as there are a number of stands (and the Main St Barber Shop) where credit cards and room keys are not accepted. I remember a thread about someone enjoying an evening on Pleasure Island and then found they needed actual cash to settle the bill and being a bit embarrassed.

Tho we don't usually use much cash when at WDW, as the vast majority of stands and shops accept room keys, we also keep maybe $25-$50 per adult in cash, just in case (or where we don't feel like making a 79¢ purchase on credit). Of course we like to have Disney dollars for the kids too.

I prefer to throw some travelor's checks in also. Cash seems to disappear so I like to use a credit card. I'll bring some cash but more in Trav Cks, just in case something really disappears!
