Credit card was jeopardized... now what?

I wouldn't blame the DMV. This happens and all we can do is be vigilant. They canceled the card. They send a new one with a new number. It is a PITA if you have things auto billed to the card, but just change the billing info and you are all set.

If the sort of personal information that the DMV has was compromised, it wouldn't be your credit card number a crook was using. Why did the DMV have your credit card number anyway if you were getting a FL driver's license?

This has happened with our Disney chase card numerous times. The last time was about 3 months after the card was cancelled and reissued. DH was looking at our mint.com activity and asked what I bought at best buy for $1019. It turns out someone had a copy of our card (we had all our card accounted for) and made a purchase at best buy in Annapolis Maryland (we live in NJ). After that 2 smaller charges for parking in Boston showed up. I'm getting so tired of having to cancel and reissue these cards. It's a hassle to remember all the places that are automatically charging the card.

We were the victims of a skimming scam right before Christmas. They used my debit card and drained $1200 in a matter of 2 hours using ATM machines. The withdrawals were in Brooklyn NY and I was home in FL. I was lucky enough to catch it an hour after the last withdrawal was made. My bank had the $ back in my account within 4 days and I had a new card in 3 days. I thought it was nuts that this person made ATM withdrawals and I still had the actual card in my possession. We believe it was skimmed at either a gas station or restaurant . We have tried very hard to pay cash when possible as that's the best option for avoiding the skimming scam again. We also have Ask for ID on the back of our CCs rather than a signature. We have always had monthly credit monitoring alerts, and we also went to equifax website and enrolled in the Fraud alert where we will be notified of any changes to the credit report.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I know I felt violated when it happened to us.
