we have used the magic bands with our credit card attached and it worked beautifully so thats not the issue, but to make a long story short....we had identity an theft issue since then and would like to pay using our one new credit card that has been securely attached to us by signature, picture and chip requirements. If we don't feel comfortable putting it o our bands, can we just pay the bill the old fashioned way ( giving the credit card at end of meal) even if we have bands. We may even get some disney gift cards. Our family's ordeal has been insufferable over the last year. Hoping hubby changes mind, but not sure he will

Yes you can make it so the band's do not have charging privileges and pay everything with each purchase.

Yes you can. We never Have charging on our magic bands as we prefer to just use our cash or gift cards.

As mentioned by previous posters, you can decline charging privileges on your MBs, but note that none of your credit card information (or room number etc.) is stored on the band. Charging with the band simply puts the charges on your resort account. The band just has a unique code that links it to your MDE account.

Makes no difference. The cards attached to the room. So it's moot and more dangerous to drag the card to the gig. Leave it in the room safe and use the magic band to charge to the room. Then just pay off the balance from the room charge. Simple. Easy. Fun.

And unless they've changed the machines in the past month, Disney's machines can't utilize the chip technology so using that card won't gain you any extra protection. For us I feel using the card once or twice at the desk at the resort to be safer than carrying the card around and using it time and time again in the park.

I hope Disney converts to chip by October 1 2015, when the liability for fraud shifts to the merchant if they have not adopted chip card readers. It will be much harder to recover your money from such merchants if you are a victim of card fraud. The banks will no longer be responsible for losses at such merchants for mag stripe card fraud. (your chip card would still default to mag stripe swipe at a merchant who has not switched.)

Your credit card information is not on your magic band. It is on your resort account. When you use your band to charge to your resort room account you are just adding a charge to your folio and your card will not be charged for the individual amount. Your card will only be charged by your resort so you shouldn't have any additional risk using your magic band. We loved having the magic bands for charging to our room and not having to pull out a card or money to pay at each location.

As others have said, I feel much safer charging to my magic band instead of handing a credit card over to someone every time I make a purchase, especially in a restaurant.

Handing a CC over to someone, who then takes it away to a machine, is FAR less safe than other methods. Handing the CC over once to a CM that you know is being monitored (and can be traced if they are up to no good) is going to be safer.

If you do online checkin and enter CC info there, then only the computer knows it. You don't have to give the actual card to anyone.

The only advantage I can see to using a credit card vs magic band is if you have the Disney Chase card. You will get a discount on certain food and merchandise automatically if paying with the card, but as far as I can tell from my recent stay, you won't get the discount if using your magic band with the Disney Chase being your card on file.
