Credit card hacked

my family was in Disney springs having some shacks and drinks at the polite pig bar. As we were sitting there a monster rain storm came through taking out the outside of the bar. When I went to pay I handed my magic band to the bartender and he said the system was down because of the rain and I needed to use a credit card. My mistake was not challenging that asking to go to another area to use the band. Never the less when I got home from vacation I noticed over $1,000 of changes in Disney world to my card. Even on two days I was already home.

I am curious if this has happened to anyone else ?

Happens all of the time to me. Probably 10+ times? So often that I have a separate card I use just for the auto charged transactions so I don't have to logon to 25 websites to change my card when I get sent a new number. Getting you cards hacked is no big deal. You just call the credit card company and tell them and they delete the fraudulent transactions.

Yes. It happened 7 or 8 years ago. Someone went on a shopping spree nearby. I figured out where it happened and I believe the person responsible got nailed. Call your CC company and explain exactly what happened. They will take it from there. Sorry it happened to you too.

They were contacted and the money has been already returned, I was asking to see if this was a trend at Disney world.

My cc's get hacked 1-2 times per year. I have all my cards either locked or set up for alerts over $1. Still happens. Never really know where the card # got stolen, either.

unfortunately it's a trend anywhere now

This. And not just when you're traveling. If you've used a card anywhere online, hackers who want to can get it. If you've used it anywhere, hackers can get it. Non-bank ATMS - heck even bank ATMs - can have readers slipped into them to duplicate the info. Sadly as we move further and further away from using cash, it's something we all have to be vigilant about.

One of my one cards got stolen the week before we went to WDW. I didn’t get the new card until we came back.

The fraud department usually says a new card will take 5-7 business days but if you request expedited it takes 1-2 business days.

You can very easily setup charge alerts on almost every credit card. I have mine set for anything over a $1 that way I can shutt off the card immediately. Most will even allow you to freeze the card online.

My Disney Visa (which I never use outside of WDW) has been hacked multiple times over the years. I have never actually handed the physical hard over to anyone but it's in my MDE account for online check-in purposes. When it happens, it is always either during or just after a WDW trip.

We've had similar issues in the past - cards compromised shortly after a visit. I know that back in 2010 they caught a CM at CR who was stealing CC information, and our card was compromised shortly after a visit to BLT that year. But as others have said, it can happen anytime - we've had cards compromised that had never been used for anything related to Disney at all.

Knock on wood, I've never, ever had mine compromised anywhere. Now, at Disney I use my Magic Band, not my actual card. But even not even anywhere else.

Wonder if this is a reason to use the MB more? For those that can

What a good idea. I might steal this. I have a couple cards I literally don't use and only signed up for to get the bonus $$$.

You are very lucky. Its happened to me no less than 5 times, on 2 different credit cards.

I’ve had fraudulent charges on various cards over the years, none had anything to do with a Disney trip. Happens everywhere. The worst was my Citi Double Cash, which had charges in foreign currency accepted twice in one year, the second time after they replaced the card with a new number.

Yeah, I do this too. I have a text alert set up for any charges "where the physical card was not present."

It's how I've caught the fraud every time.

set up for alerts over $1.
THIS^^

Drives my wife nuts, as every time she makes an Amazon order I get a text message....she just yells "it's legit" and we carry on.

But getting a text every time the card is used is a great piece of mind. Especially when out to eat and a server runs the card. You know right there if the did something wrong.
