Credit Card Coding at WDW

Hi Everyone,

I will be staying at GF 03/30 - 04/04 - my first WDW trip in a very long time. I'm hoping all you knowledgeable people can help me with a question.

During my trip, I'm interested in taking advantage of 5% cash back on restaurants through Discover (til 03/31) and Chase Freedom (starting 04/01). The only way to get the 5% is if the charge is coded on your credit card bill as "Restaurant".

Does anyone know how restaurant charges in the parks and hotels appear on your cc bill? I have a feeling they just appear as "Theme Park/Entertainment" and "Hotel/Travel", rather than actually showing up as "Restaurant". If that is the case, I'm not going to worry about which card I use on which day and accept that I will not get 5% back.

I've always had my meals show as "restaurant".

They should appear as a restaurant if charged directly to your credit card. Just checked a prior AMEX statement on-line and Via Napoli is coded as a Restaurant.

If it is a room charge I don't think this is the case even if you use a rewards card attached to a room. Is that correct?

On the bill from the resort everything is itemized, but it is submitted to your cc company as one amount. My Chase statement says "Disney Resort" with the total amount charged to my room during my stay.

Thanks - that was my plan if they are coded as Restaurant. Pay directly via CC at restaurants rather than charging to room or magic band.

For souvenirs and other charges like locker rentals, etc, I'll use the magic band and they will be billed to the room under one "Resort/Travel" charge.

I have found over the years, with both Chase and Discover, that some restaurant charges code as "restaurant" and some appear as some other travel category.

However, I have always contacted cardholder services after receiving my bill to let them know that certain charges were for restaurants in a resort and had the 5% credit applied after the fact.

So depending on where you eat, it's pretty likely that you will need to take the extra step. But they will take care of it for you.

I've never seen a charge not coded as 'Restaurant' when paying at the restaurant with my AMEX.
