Does anybody know if the car rental agency will "hold" an amount over and above my rental fee on my credit card, in case of damage, etc? It has been years since we rented a car, but I remember having to have $500. or so available to be held. I have about $1600. available credit, but I wanted to keep it available in case of an emergency. We are renting through Dollar, do they hold a set amount and if so, how much?

Faye.... I called national and was told that I only need the amount of the original rental amount to be covered... nothing over and above....

From the dollar site after you make a reservation. If you have made a reservation, this should have appeared on the reservation confirmation page, under policy statement.

Minimum Available Credit Required:
Minimum credit card/debit deposit is the estimated rental charge plus 15%
or $200.00 whichever is greater.

The OP is renting from Dollar, different rules.

Sorry......I was just stating what national had told us......

No reason to be sorry, but, National and Alamo have some of the easiest rules regarding charges and holds out there.
Some people think what one agency does applies to all. I was just claifying the rules for Dollar.
