So, do you have an interesting snack ideas I could whip up for the children at my son's school?

I find the children like individual servings. I did Pringles containers with a homemade snack mix for St. Patricks Day last year. Each had a "pot of gold." I think I saw it in Family Fun. Caramel Corn (puffed corn) with Apples was a neat treat.

I would rather make something. My son enjoys helping me with the snacks, too. Don't want to go the cupcake route, too messy. I am trying to come up with something "cool" and I can't think of anything.

Oh, it's not a holiday or anything special, just my turn for snacks.
Thank you, thank you!

Cups of Dirt?

It's a combination of crushed Oreos, chocolate pudding, and something else. Then of course you add the Gummy Worms. You could do them in individual cups (I usually make it in a new plastic flower pot, with silk flowers in it). I can dig up the recipe if you want it.

When our kids were in preschool, each week was a different letter. When DS his snack week, it was "P" week so we had puffed popcorn and sent along dixie size cups for servings. On the cups we wrote different words that stated with "P". That is about as creative as I get.

Chex mix. Kids love it and it's not "messy".

Peanut butter play-doh! It's fun and edible and my 5 year old loves to help make it. I'll dig out the recipe if you want it.

We also like "Gorp" (not sure how it got the name, we learned it from a friend). dry cereal, peanuts, small pretzels, a few m&m's, raisins, craisins, dried fruits and so on. We buy a little of everything and my daughter gets to mix it in a big trash bag. She loves shaking it up in the huge bag and then shoveling it into little zip locs with a sand shovel(that we only use for this purpose!!!) The kids love it and love to make it.

Or you can do a "beach" one with vanilla cookies and vanilla wafers (or other vanilla cookies) crumbs. YOu can get the little paper umbrellas and put one in each.

Ants on a log

Sliced Celery
Peanut Butter (or Almond or cashew butter if there are allergy issues?)
Raisins

Easy to make, carry, and serve

::yes:: I was just coming back to post this one too.

Now that I think about it, the paper umbrellas may not be such a great idea for preschoolers, pointy toothpicks? No. Maybe you could find gummy fish or whales or something else?

I saw something in a magazine where you take blue jello pour it into clear plastic cups, float some gummi fish in it, and it had some sort of white foam on top. It looked really neat.

kids love doughnut holes - and they are not too messy

Pinwheel sandwiches. Flatten out some crustless bread and add in any flavor jam and peanut butter. Then roll them up and cut. You could add on a popsicle stick at one end so that it is a pinwheel lollipop sandwich.

My son would tell you that "You rock!" I was just drawing a blank and now I have ideas for the snack day and the party later in the year.

And, GORP: Good Ol Raisins and Peanuts
That's how I learned it. Some others may call it something else. There's one with Granola for the G, too.

Thank you! I just like doing a bit more than a sack of chips (and hey, I'm not beyond that). This is an opportunity for DS and I to have fun in the kitchen.

This is the recipe of the day on Kraftfoods.com. I thought it would be cute for kids--I'm going to try it for grownups too. You could probably adjust baking time for mini-muffin size that would be better for your young folks. I have not tried to make it, but it sounds tasty. Our school is a "peanuts prohibited" school so we're not allowed any peanuts (or any nuts product, including coconut) anywhere near the school. Apparently we also have a lemon and kiwi allergy alert too. It's getting harder and harder to pack a snack these days. My son actually asked for a granola bar this morning and I had to deny it because it "may contain traces of or come into contact with nuts and/or nut products" ...

I made bugs once for my preschooler's class. Two Ritz crackers made into a sandwich with spreadable cheese. Before you put the top on lay down pretzel stick legs. After you sandwich the legs in stick two small blobs of cheese on top and stick raisins on them to make the eyes.

It was sticky, but my 3/4 year olds at bible school liked these rice krispie cups (I think they molded them in muffin pans) then put gummie bears in the cups.

They weren't fond of the apples in a caramel sauce (That one surprised me).

They ate the trail mix that was made.

They had ritz crackers with squeeze cheese on them and seemed to like it.

Our school is a "peanuts and all nut products (my DD4) are prohibited" school too in preschool and a warning in elemantary class with a child in DD6 class servely allergic.

I also wanted to add our preschool doesn't want any very messy snacks like pudding so I would check ahead of time just in case.

These are a HUGE hit with my kids classes each year!! We always make them to bring in and they love them! :)
