Crazy rude guests!

We go to DLR regularly, and I've heard PLENTY of extreme profanity, right in front of CMs, that resulted in no consequence to the offending individual at all. I've also gotten the "what can we do?" attitude from CMs there when individuals push and shove their way ahead of others in line...None of the items listed in the original post would get anyone kicked out of DLR, just like nothing happened at WDW.

I'm sorry you've had that experience at DLR. It all depends on the CM I guess. But people fairly regularly are kicked out of DLR for behavior. It's just not done in full public view if possible, but it does happen.

Holy moly...are you for real? I was born and raised 11 miles north of Manhattan and have lived in the Bronx since '98. NYers are not any more rude than anyone else in the world. I encountered more rudeness in Paris FFS.
It's people like you who give NYers a bad name, you should be ashamed of yourself, actually, you probably are ashamed to be a NYer, that's why you left.
NYers are friendly, outgoing and helpful. Do not make broad general statements about people whether it is in reference to geographic location, religion, political views, sexual orientation or race. It is wrong, just plain wrong.

I think in all my years of reading posts about WDW both here any on other boards, I have never read anything as upsurd as what you wrote.

I'm happy that your experience of life in my hometown and home region of the country differs in a positive way from mine. I did not say that New Yorkers aren't helpful, or outgoing, or friendly. I said that I experienced a lot of obnoxious behavior in public in my hometown. The two are not mutually exclusive, and the behavior I wrote about isn't an opinion, it's a fact about my life. Your mileage obviously varies.

I'm not the first person to observe on the DIS that the east coast visitor crowd differs in ways (some good, some bad) from the west coast visitor crowd.
I agree with you, Paris feels "ruder" than New York City. DLP was a nightmare from a line-cutting and bad-guest-behavior standpoint. Talking about rudeness in Paris isn't any different than talking about rudeness in New York. There have been many posts in other threads about the behavior of tour groups of various origins and ethnicities at WDW. Like them, I was simply talking about things I experienced in real life--things that were real enough for me to leave and be wary about visiting WDW, much less NYC, again. Yelling at me over it doesn't change anything, but it does remind me why I left.

I, like many others on here, also use some less than Disney language at times!! (Though I'm sure Walt may have dropped an F-bomb or two when he was frustrated lol jkjk!) However, I wouldn't dream of using it around children ESPECIALLY in Disney World!!

One time I was in a line at DW and slipped up (not an F-bomb I think just a "d" word!) but there was a family with an older son (like 8 or 9) behind me! I immediately turned around and said to the parents "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry! That slipped out!! I try to be on my best behavior here!!" Then I looked at the kid and said "If my mother were here she would have fussed at me...don't say those kinds of words they're bad!! I'm an adult and I shouldn't say them!!" The kid laughed and the parents thanked me for teaching their kid a lesson and said he'd heard mom and dad slip up a time or two as well so no worries!! I'm glad I turned that slip-up into something funny/educational!!

I encountered more rudeness in Paris FFS.

Paris routinely makes the top five in "World's Rudest Cities" polls (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/10/worlds-rudest-countries_n_1414819.html).

OTOH, New York does the same with "American's Rudest Cities" polls (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/travel-leisure/americas-rudest-cities-ph_b_1224063.html#).

I suspect that, in both cities, much of the rudeness is in the "touristy areas," when people who're trying to go about their day who get annoyed with the "rubes" who're constantly holding them up!

Although I think we can all agree that some things are bad, whatever your culture (changing diapers where people eat is just plain unsanitary ), and I further think it can be argued that some things are wrong even when culturally approved, much of what people perceive as rudeness is more about cultural habits than right or wrong. New York may get slammed for being rude, but it also gets points for being culturally diverse (often in the same survey!) -- and cultural diversity only works when people accept others' differences.

Umm...I was just using Paris as an example. And not DLP either. I've encountered rude people in Arizona, California, Chicago, London, Derry, Edinburgh....
Meaning to say. Rudeness is found ALL OVER THE WORLD. Not just in NYC or the East Coast. It's not exclusive to being a NYer. Lol.

Just want to say, the attitude in the parks, however you want to characterize it, is exactly as I suspected it would be. My DBF has been remarking on it since we got here, too. We just can't believe guest behavior in the World. It is so much worse than anything we ever experience in Anaheim, and frankly, we kind of wish we had gone there instead because of it.

We were out at DLR in 2008 and had been waiting in a relatively short line for Soarin' (30 min?). They opened the doors and everyone filled into the seats. Well some yahoot and his GF/wife(?) who had been assigned to row three decided they wanted an upgrade to the first row. The people who had been waiting for that row were left without a seat. They (understandably) raised a stink about not having the seats they waited for and the guy/girl in the seat refused to move.

The CM attempted to politely remove them from the seats and the gf/wife was mortified and got up to move. The guy went on a loud and vulgar rant about how no one was moving them anywhere, this was their (expletive) seats and they could go...well, you get the idea. Everyone around them (in the rest of the seats) kept yelling for him to just to get up and move. The more the crowd fought the guy, the more you could tell he wasn't doing it in order to try and save face.

Finally security arrived and he and the girl were escorted out. The CM was stressed and broke down at some point during the ride (she had been crying when we got off the ride) but all of the guests were clapping and cheering for her as she stood up to the guy. I just wanted to give her a hug. I've already told DH that if he EVER treats a CM that way (or any other employee, for that matter), it would get really ugly in our household. I do NOT want my children thinking it's ok to treat people like that. (He never has, but it was more of a preemptive threat, lol).

I definitely used profanity while in WDW. Not ever yelling at CMs or talking to children, but just talking to my friends, etc. I never really even thought about it, it's just how I talk and it wasn't really a big deal at all. nbd

Like others have said, a little bit of kindness goes a LONG way for CMs. I can't speak for anyone else but I know that for me personally, when a guest is polite (or even just treats me like a real human) I am MUCH more likely to do everything I can to help them. It is amazing how rude people can be, or even better, how many just completely ignore me.

The worst rudeness I experienced is always when I did parades at MK. People get vicious about their nighttime spectaculars, man. They would literally completely walk on by as if we just didn't exist. Or even better, when asked to stand behind the ropes and inside the taped areas, they would look at me as if I had just asked for their firstborn child's head on a platter or something. I think a lot of times people don't realize that most of the rules we have are for their safety and we're just doing our jobs. Like really, it is not that hard to stand behind the tape!! Do you want your 4-year-old to be steamrolled by Tinkerbell?!

Of course, it is always refreshing to see that there are still awesome guests out there that try to be polite on vacation, like all of you
