Crazy....lunatic neighbors!

I have always found bagpipes to be both soothing and tend to drown out all other sounds.

I like this idea. I suggest your family all take up bagpipe lessons...in the yard closest to your neighbors...at 2 in the morning.

That's just crazy.

Maybe you could do a little landscaping to hide it. Add a nice small tree or bush, what about a trellis and a climbing plant?

maybe you should walk around your yard in a skimpy bathing suit and a sign that says "Since you like to watch, this is for you"

Check with your city and see if there are any ordinances on the books that might help you out. For instance in our city there are rules about cars in yards and you can be fined if your grass gets above a certain height. Basically rules about eyesores.

Those floodlights are annoying though. My neighbor does this. (we live rural so I get the nervous factor but she has 2 huge dogs. ) I think she oes it just to annoy my next door neighbor. They really don't get along. It shines right into her baby's room and keeps her up, supposedly. You shold haveheard the commotion when nice neighbor brought lower wattage bulbs to the nut. She took them then smashed them on her own driveway. I'll have to tell her the mirror idea!

Really just redirecting that light might help the situation.

And on the fence, I agree time to plant. Or move.

She has her own fence now (sister-in-law). So no more mirror. In her subdivision the houses are right on top of each other. Not for me! Hope all ends well in every case.

I would take pictures. just in case things escalate you will have documentation. I would plant some hedges and ignore the neighbors. i would not retaliate, I think it would be like poking a bear with a stick. I would not want to be in a war with my neighbor. You don't have to be best friends, but if you can be civil maybe they will be too.

I just re-read your post and missed the part about the on going issues with them. I thought this was an isolated incident. Have you spoken with the town?

I am led to believe that if you took pictures of the graffiti and then used self help and painted it over, you would not lose a case (for vandalism or whatever) brought against you even if you did not hire a lawyer and went in yourself to testify.

This next one was complicated but there was at least one recorded instance of where one neighbor terraced his land and that caused water to back up onto another neighbor's property and also into his basement. After a small amount of unsuccessful negotiating, the aggrieved neighbor bulldozed the terraces to let the stormwater resume its former flow. Unfortunately I don't know the final outcome of this one.

I'd probably start with the police non-emergency number and see if there is any law being broken.

I'd then move onto the town and see if there is any town ordinance being broken.

If a law or an ordinanc eis being broken, then the police or the town handle it.

Then you'll know if you can legally paint over it or if you just have to plant a bush or put something (ie-a trellis) in front of it.

Most local ordinances state that when putting up a fence, the nicer side needs to face your neighbors property, that is why many now are identical on both sides.

I agree with what others have said, contact the police and have them come out and make a report about it. Take pictures as well for any future legal action that you may need to take.

Ok we have a crazy neighbor. To make the story short this neighbor and us have had an ongoing legal battle over issues with their property. Recently they installed a fence and on the side facing us they graffitied (on their own fence) "BEWARE WE ARE WATCHING". Now we have to look at this eyesore/threat all day. We can't paint the fence because its theirs. Is there any legal action we can pursue?

The people behind me had an issue with the people next door to them and they put up a fence with all kinds of things written in Spanish on them- neither was Spanish so not sure why the Spanish thing but I know they were all foul words. Eventually the other people just put up a fence right next to the other peoples so they wouldn't have to see then.

Flood lights are VERY annoying to neighbors. People across from me have sensor lights on the front of their house and when they come on my entire kitchen, dining room and living room light up. If I happen to be walking into one of those room during the night when the house is dark and those lights come on they are blinding! I have the sensor lights in my back yard adjusted so that when they go off they don't shine directly into my neighbors house, I have them angled down to dim the effect on my neighbors.

This is where HOAs are a good thing. They wouldn't put up with this type of thing. Problem solved.

My issue the past few years has been noise from modified exhaust systems on pickups. I just don't understand why someone spends $40k on a brand new pickup with a whisper quiet exhaust then spends another $2,500 putting a loud exhaust on it. Neighbors on 3 sides have done that. My 26 year old truck......which has a bigger, badder engine in it (454 V-8).......still has it's original whisper quiet exhaust system on it. Of course, since I go to work at 2:45 am, maybe I am more sensitive about being quiet. Although 2 of the neighbors have commented on how shocked they are that they don't hear me going to work in the morning.

I'm willing to trade nutty fence neighbor for the crew 4 doors down who decided to plant a " natural" garden in their front yard!!! The weeds are 3-4 " high and planted in 4 ft. Sq. boxes. A very odd look indeed. And yes, I've been in touch with my local planning and code enforcement officials. Not holding my breath.

I would not be willing to hand control of my own property over to some power hungry HOA--would rather deal with the issues in other ways!

Honestly I'd have an issue too if they shined into my bedroom and I was trying to sleep at night. I wouldn't do the mirror, but I'd certainly talk to her or the city to find out my rights.

Now if they didn't shine in bedroom or my kids bedroom I'd let it go and get along....
