She was running out of the water with snorkle in hand and screaming " there are fish in the lagoon, there are fish in the lagoon" She sees me and my mom and proceed to ask " did you know there are real fish in the lagoon?" I told yes, I knew and what did she expect? her reply? "well this is Disney I thought they would animated fish" What ?! I told her "no they are real fish and there are real fish in the ocean".
I actually would go the other way on this one, on our last four cruises we have not had table mates and absolutely loved it. That being said, we fall into the camp that most likely would not hang out with our table mates or make life long friends over the week, so I think it depends on everyones personality which would be best.
Cheers

Wow this has been some reading! Would you suggest dining alone on our first cruise? We're a pretty outgoing family, but boy, these stories...
We are a family of three so I don't know if it's possible. Thank you for sharing the idea that we can request a change, if needed.
Oh gosh! We haven't yet been on our first cruise, but I have no doubt we'll be one of those awkward 'crazy' families.
Consisting of mostly aspies, our family doesn't really do well in those kind of social situations. Small talk really isn't our thing
Wonder if you could request a table with other fellow cruisers who actually enjoy engaging in deeper and more meaningful discussions regarding issues relating to mankind (politics, religion, environmentalism, humanitarianism, etc) without feeling uncomfortable or offended. We'd be totally game for that!![]()
DH and I's first cruise was on Royal Caribbean to the Western Caribbean. We were seated at a table of 10 and most of our table mates were very pleasant, there was this one guy though, he was a bit "different". When he wasn't picking his nose, which was constantly, he would eat the the butter pats! No kidding, one by one he would pick up a butter pat, open it, eat the butter, then proceed to lick the foil for a while to get all the leftover butter, and then moved on to the next butter pat. Once all the butter was gone, he went back to picking his nose. His wife would keep elbowing him to make him stop but it didn't work.![]()
Maybe he was on strike....
.... and its an official pick-it.![]()

He was just being a booger.
She was trying to butter him up, but it wasnt working.

I would love to sit with you ! I had my first tattoo aged 31 hubby has been getting them since he was 16 which is illegal in England but he's always looked older I have my ears double pierced and had my belly button done before the kids and wobbly belly ! In my job I dernt risk facial piercings just this week I have been punched in the eye and had my necklace yank several times (I know your all wondering what my dangerous job is ! I'm a nursery nurse and look after toddlers !) I want purple hair but with my complexion it would be awful ! I have friends with dreadlocks but always worry about the smell and head live (strange I know but with two kids and working in a nursery these things come into your mind lol) and as my eldest is a bit of a geek and my youngest is autistic and not wanting to chat am sure the kids would get on to lolWe've always requested a table to ourselves. Each time we get close to a cruise, I think "why don't we try mixed seating and see if we make friends!" and then a thread like this pops up and I think better of it! I'm afraid that we'll be the ones people post their "craziest table mates" posts about! My husband and I own a nightclub in a big city. We're atheists. We both have tattoos AND piercings. I have pink dreadlocks down to my waist. We share a bottle of wine with dinner almost every night on our cruise even though we don't really drink at home. I never understand when posters are like "they'll save the leftovers for you for the next night" 'cause we never have leftover wine! But we're both politically fairly conservative and somewhat socially liberal. Our son is a little socially awkward and a little nerdy. I think we're adorable! But, I can see how most people wouldn't mesh well with us, even though I think we're pretty gosh-darn fun! Maybe I'll continue requesting a table of our own so we can stay the family everyone stares at but doesn't have to make polite conversation with![]()
You may think it's funny, but it's snot.
