Crane up at ToT

That makes absolutely no sense at all. :(

It really makes it seem like they're making all of this up as they go along.

I agree. This is so frustrating. I wonder what it will look like in its last week open which is when we'll be there!

If it was so easy to take down, I don't see why it couldn't be left up until it closed. I read a rumor that it was only being taken down temporarily. Would be nice if that turned out to be true.
My kids were going to ride it for their first and only time next week!

MTE. I thought it was just for promotion for the new movie.

There isn't even an elevator/major drop in guardians.

When they announced that they were changing it to guardians of the galaxy, I figured I better watch the movie. And there is actually a drop scene that we noticed and figured that will be the drop on the ride.

They are going with the theme of the guardians being trapped at the collectors house or whatever it is and you as riders have to help break them out. I'll admit it's been awhile since I've watched the movie but I don't recall a significant drop scene that could be used in a ToT type ride but that's just me.

Anyone want to bet there IS going to be a drop scene while being held captive by "The Collector" in the new GOG movie? Lets face it, Disney has decided to re-theme this attraction. The sign hung off the side of the building and was the last part to be added so in turn was the first thing to come down. I would expect that the next step is to install a giant scrim around the building so they can begin updating the exterior after hours. I actually commend Disney for keeping the attraction running while the initial re-theming is taking place. I suppose everyone would be happier if they just shut it down completely for 8 - 12 months?

No, I'd be happier if they built a new attraction instead of cheaping out and retheming a popular and much loved existing attraction.

No, I want to keep what's there. How does that cause a long closure?

Ok, JABRacingOne, I got your back.

Madam, I'm afraid I must insist you pick a side.

I don't understand the perspective that you can enjoy one thrill ride, as long as it it is never changed, and when it is it is dead to you.

As noted previously, TOT is one of the top rated thrill rides. How many people rating it as a top rated *thrill* ride do you honestly think were going, "Hmm, well, the falling elevator was ok, but it was the time stuck ghosted that made this the best thrill ride." Wouldn't a logical place to go be that most people rate it as a thrill ride based not upon the theme but upon the ride mechanics? There is little and less room in Anaheim to build new attractions, so most, if not all, expansion comes in dead man's boots. Asking Disney to scrap one of the most popular ride mechanics with an untested new mechanic so as to not sully the memories of some is an act of hubris.

But, what am I saying? Hubris always wins in the end. The Greeks taught us that.

You get to think what you think, and value what you want, as do I.

I value the total package, a huge piece of which is the theming.

I honestly probably will not ride it again after the change is complete. But that's ok. More room for you, right?

Oh that's an easy one-because guardians was so horrifically bad that watching it I actually wished I was instead at a messy root canal appointment, or removing my own bodily appendages with a rusty spoon. I had a strongly negative visceral reaction to it so yes when it changes it will be dead to me. I mourn the passing of good times spent and those that will never be since they are turning a what was once a great time into something that activates my gag reflex. I have never had such a strongly negative reaction to a film in my life.

While I think I will greatly enjoy many new changes coming to the parks in the future this is not one of them.

Actually
it is a fun and slightly unique drop ride which is fun and all but part of what made it special-what put it in the higher echelon of drop rides in my opinion is how the themeing and the ride mechanism work together to create a thrilling experience. The theming gets you excited and in a headspace that is ready to be scared. while GotG is meant to be entertaining (and fails horribly) its not a scary story and according to the artistic rendering of the finished ride concept its not trying to be scary. however in taking away the horror-esque vibe something in the experience will be lost.

Psychoemotional factors are huge in how we process sensory input and how we process, connect with, enjoy and remember experiences. These factors will be changed in a way that I think will inhibit much of the thrill factor and much of many people's abilities to enjoy the ride to the fullest.

GotG will be just another drop ride.

Wow what negativity! I loved GoG. It has everything. Humor, Romance, Action and Groot! I have watched several times and am very much looking forward to the next installment. To each his own I guess...

Yeah, you might as well be speaking Swahili to me. Last time baby bro and I went to DCA we FP'd on to TOT, got a 90 sec vid, through an indoor queue that was, as far as I could tell, not too terribly different from any other ride in the collective two parks. Then strapped in, a 30 second movie and then the ride. Which was awesome. If they changed the two minutes at the beginning, I might enjoy it more, I might enjoy it less. I'm still going to ride it.

I don't understand being that invested in the theme, that you never go on a ride again. I've gone on *Dark* rides that were re-themed, where I liked the original way, way, way better, but still enjoyed the ride.

Just, y'know, less.

I'm not saying you're wrong to do so, just I think we're spraken different lingos.

I will also say, that Disney is under no obligation, to any of us, to to freeze their parks in amber, or make only changes approved by us. Indeed, they have an obligation to the shareholders to seek out new customers, from new generations who might be more invested in a modern blockbuster (series) then in a television show most popular in the 60s. For everyone saying, "I'll never", there is like as not, a dozen who will eventually say, "That is my favorite." And who knows, one day some infant turned adult will lament the death of his "Breakout", saying how Disney is ruining their park.

"And thus the whirligig of Time brings in his revenges" - Twelfth Night Act 5, Scene 1
