Oh that's an easy one-because guardians was so horrifically bad that watching it I actually wished I was instead at a messy root canal appointment, or removing my own bodily appendages with a rusty spoon. I had a strongly negative visceral reaction to it so yes when it changes it will be dead to me. I mourn the passing of good times spent and those that will never be since they are turning a what was once a great time into something that activates my gag reflex. I have never had such a strongly negative reaction to a film in my life.
While I think I will greatly enjoy many new changes coming to the parks in the future this is not one of them.
Actually
it is a fun and slightly unique drop ride which is fun and all but part of what made it special-what put it in the higher echelon of drop rides in my opinion is how the themeing and the ride mechanism work together to create a thrilling experience. The theming gets you excited and in a headspace that is ready to be scared. while GotG is meant to be entertaining (and fails horribly) its not a scary story and according to the artistic rendering of the finished ride concept its not trying to be scary. however in taking away the horror-esque vibe something in the experience will be lost.
Psychoemotional factors are huge in how we process sensory input and how we process, connect with, enjoy and remember experiences. These factors will be changed in a way that I think will inhibit much of the thrill factor and much of many people's abilities to enjoy the ride to the fullest.
GotG will be just another drop ride.
Yeah, you might as well be speaking Swahili to me. Last time baby bro and I went to DCA we FP'd on to TOT, got a 90 sec vid, through an indoor queue that was, as far as I could tell, not too terribly different from any other ride in the collective two parks. Then strapped in, a 30 second movie and then the ride. Which was awesome. If they changed the two minutes at the beginning, I might enjoy it more, I might enjoy it less. I'm still going to ride it.
I don't understand being that invested in the theme, that you never go on a ride again. I've gone on *Dark* rides that were re-themed, where I liked the original way, way, way better, but still enjoyed the ride.
Just, y'know, less.
I'm not saying you're wrong to do so, just I think we're spraken different lingos.
I will also say, that Disney is under no obligation, to any of us, to to freeze their parks in amber, or make only changes approved by us. Indeed, they have an obligation to the shareholders to seek out new customers, from new generations who might be more invested in a modern blockbuster (series) then in a television show most popular in the 60s. For everyone saying, "I'll never", there is like as not, a dozen who will eventually say, "That is my favorite." And who knows, one day some infant turned adult will lament the death of his "Breakout", saying how Disney is ruining their park.
