Cranberry & Pineapple Continued.....Again.

Oh my gosh Selena. Yep, a little ironic. When will the secretary grow up??

Thanks Marcie. I thought it was a bit extreme. No, they didn't need any kind of follow up. Ted is the one that called in the middle of it all. They were like this last year, too. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt because I understand what YOU go through. Go get that DRINK!!

YAY MARCIE, you made it another year!!!!! Enjoy that drink.

Selena - I hope your voice gets better. Your situation is too funny, I hope the secretary that is throwing notes at you has to do all your work, lol!

No drink yet but I've had a pedicure. :goodvibes I have to wait until I pick up Aerial from the church at 8. Once she's home I will have my drink. Tomorrow I am having a facial, then I'm going to tan and go shopping. I've been wanting to visit my friend's shop, it's a hand poured candle shop and she has gifts and jewelry but she closes at 6 so I haven't been there in forever. I am going tomorrow.

I also have gone grocery shopping and I'm cleaning my house. I know Aerial will be happy we have a good food supply.

Marcie, good for you. You need to do things to take care of yourself after all the stress you have been under.

Happy Thursday Everyone

We got a note from Alex's math teacher yesterday. She is recommending that he skip 7th grade accelerated math next year and go straight to 8th grade algebra. I'm concerned about what he'd be missing in 7th grade math, though. If it is just pre-algebra, then I guess I'd be OK with it if she thinks he's already beyond it.

Jrsy, you have one talented and smart child! (btw, it's not because you check his homework, aren't you sorry I am on facebook, now)

Rachel did accelerated math in 6th grade. They did the whole 6th grade book and the 7th grade book. Then in 7th grade she is in Algebra. It seems like the 7th grade math was pre-algebra stuff. He would probably be fine skipping it. Rachel was telling me that they had to do their 6 year plan with the councilors a couple of weeks ago. I don't remember what grade it will be in, but she will be having calculus in high school. :scared1: I told her that once she hits that, I can't help her. That class made me pull my hair out in college. :)

Wow Cristi, I have never heard of a six year plan. Very interesting. Good for her! Lots of smart kids here.

Jrsy - wow, proud dad moment I am sure. That is great Alex is doing so well.

Cristi - I must be psycho, calculus was the only math I liked.

Here is what the teacher said about what he'd miss:

"I don’t believe Alex will miss any concepts next year. 7th grade accelerated uses the 8th grade CMP books which build more on what we have done this year, it’s a lot more inquiry and collaboration with groups. The algebra program is a traditional program especially in the sense that they get a more comprehensive look at algebra concepts through problem solving instead of using inquiry method. I think Alex would be better suited for the latter because works better independently. He is also outside the box a lot of the time and since algebra is so abstract I think he would do well."

I'm not sure if him being "outside the box a lot of the time" is a good thing or a bad thing.

I took calculus in high school so I ended up taking ordinary differential equations and linear algebra in college. I had a friend who tested out of calculus in HS so he did independent study senior year. He was also accepted early decision at MIT.

Calculus made me crazy. I did enjoy Algebra though.

Sandy, the 6 year plan is some new thing that Jeffco is doing (maybe the other districts too, I don't know). The kids go online and take an "interest" test to see what kind of things they might like to do as a career. Then they kind of try to start help the kids plan out how to get there.

Jrsy - personally I think "being outside the box" is a compliment and a good thing. I think that could help him be very successful in life. I say this because I am in HR and I always here my manager's say most of the applicants all look the same, the one's they select are the ones they consider to be "outside the box".

I guess I should be glad that there isn't "school Alex" and "home Alex." At least everyone else is seeing that he is often "outside the box" like we do. His brain definitely works a little bit differently...but not necessarily in a bad way.

Jrsy, Heidi and Cristi. Be careful coming home from work. I think the storm is here to stay for awhile.
