Cranberry or Pineapple?? Part 2

This is an email that my coworker sent out to our little lunch crew. My heart goes out to her, I have to find something special for her.

Happy Friday everyone!!!

So sorry, hate to bug you all on a Friday, and so close to lunch time to boot! Ha.

Last night I found out that my mother has breast cancer. She was informed that it is fast growing and of high density, and it could also possibly be in other parts of her body. Her next step is to get a chest x-ray and a blood work up. She will then see the surgeon again next Thursday. The results of the two tests will determine the type of surgery and the order of the procedures to be taken. It will most likely include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Her surgeon went over the diagnosis and procedure options with her yesterday, so it looks as if the next few months will be sort of booked up for her.

She has let us know that she has not yet made any kind of personal plans at this point, and of course, she is unable to determine how things will go or how well she will be able to manage the treatments. Same goes for family, friends, church, work and vacation. With the up coming Holidays, church events and grandchild on the way, she is just trying to take things a little bit at a time. She has said that all she can do is one step at a time and trust that God's will be done.

Just thought I'd share my news with you all, though it's not that great or exciting! I wanted to take this opportunity to make a request, if you all could keep my mother and our family in your thoughts and prayers, it would be much appreciated. I have grown close to you all in the time we have spent together here. Without friends, the world would be a cold, lonely place, void of any real understanding or warmth, we'd be adrift, aimless and utterly alone - and the same goes for family, which is why I make this request of you.

I know the future is not for us to determine in these types of situations, and that we can only do our best to do what we can in order to get through it. There is not a family out there who hasn't gone through or known someone else who has had to deal with pain, sorrow and/or tragedy. I just ask that those families and now ours, be provided with strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

My mother means the world to me. She is a strong woman and has done everything in her power to do what she thought was good and right. She is a caring person, a beautiful spirit, a wonderful mother, a loving wife and a blessing to this world. Lord knows she and I have fought only as mother and daughter can! : ) But at the end of the day, my mother has always been someone who is important to me, someone I respect very much, and she is someone that I love.

I wanted to leave you all with one last note:

No matter how hard this time is and will be...no matter what news comes in the following days or months...no matter how devastating this news is, or the knowledge of the truth and sinking feeling of what we are to face....nothing hurts more than being unable to hug my mother. Please take the time today to hug someone that you love and tell them how much they mean to you.

Thank You.

Wow, I never get to see that!!! I-70 and what?
That is the new ramp from NB E-470 to WB I-70 out in Aurora. Girders were placed over EB I-70 last night and will be placed over WB I-70 on Sunday night. The interstate can't be shut down on Friday or Saturday nights. I don't have to go out on Sunday night, though.

Not to make light of the situation, but I feel the need to hug all of you so we better get together for dinner again soon. Cosmo could probably use some hugs, too, though he has been having a lot of fun with Alex's other friends.

For those of you who I can't see in person any time soon:

Jrsy - you are sucha a great guy. I love the idea of getting together for dinner. I am sure Cristi and Brad need a get away too.

Ahhh gee. I am in for dinner as well. I wish we could include all the funkey monkeys! It's times like this that draws us closer. Lulu and Jrsy.... Your posts were warm and fuzzy!

Marcie, I hate to be like this BUT....I told you so!

Wow I am so glad that this week is over. It has been one of the most stressful weeks of my life.

Jeff is making us Long Beach's to drink. Yummy. If you do not know what they are they are the West Coast version of a Classic East Coast Long Island Ice Tea. You make it with cranberry juice and 7up verses the coke and sour mix.

Cheers to all!

Heidi, That is tough what your friend/co-worker is going through!

I will keep her & her mom in my prayers.

Two years ago this month my mom had a double masectomy. It was stage 3 breast cancer -- it was already outside her body. They originaly thought it was skin cancer --- and she had a mamogram every year for over 20 yrs!

My mom went through a year of chemo and radiation. At her last check up she is still cancer free! :yay:

Sounds yummy! I bought a giant bottle of premixed Bahama Mamas to drink this week...... I will need them since dh is leaving for a week in Hong Kong! LOL! His first day there him and oldes dd (23, Katherine) are going to Hong Kong Disneyland -- he went there last year with my brother.
Of course the years that 16 dd & I have gone with him HK Disneyland wasn't there! :sad1:

Step how is your nephew?

He is doing wonderful! He starts PT this week. He uses a walker to walk. It will be a while before he can walk without one -- I don't know if I've said this before but, the Dr estimates that it will take 3 months of work to be able to walk without assistance.
He had the staples removed earlier this week. The Dr told him that his age is workng to his advantage. ;)

Being home with his family has done WONDERS for his outlook! :goodvibes

Selena, yummy drink! Goes perfect with this thread!

Stephanie, sorry to hear about your mom but it sounds like she is doing great! And as far as your nephew, I really think that being at home with those who loves him will be perfect therapy! How lucky to be able to go to Hong Kong Disneyland!

A good friend sent me this last night. I might have to try one later tonight.

I think the best thing is to be there for her. Whatever you get she'll be thankful for, because she knows she's in your thoughts.

My mom had breast cancer in 1998. Since then, she's done really well and although she had one more scare, everything seems to have been better. So, I will definitely keep her in my thoughts, too.

Lulu, good to hear :woohoo: that your mom is doing so well after cancer! You are probably right that all Heidi has to do is be there for this girl. AND....Heidi has been. Can you tell I am a proud :teeth: mama?

Selena, Sandra Lee is on every day. TIVO! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Selena - I love Long Beach's...I only drink them because I don't like sweet and sour that Long Islands have. Also that Lemon Drop Martini that you posted is so good.....when we do shots, we do lemon drop shots and it is has the same ingredients that you posted.

I had an awesome weekend. My dad and I went skiing on Saturday and the snow dumped on us. We came back soaked because it was a really wet snow, but we had continuous powder to ski in throughout the entire day. It was awesome for our last ski day of the season. Sunday, Chris and I took the girls hiking at Red Rocks. We climbed up and down the ampitheatre steps, went to the visitor center, had a picnic, climbed rocks, hiked on many trails, climbed more rocks and then went home!! The girls did not want to go home, so maybe we will take them there again next weekend if the weather is going to be nice.

Thanks for keeping my friend in your thoughts. I tried calling her this weekend but she wouldn't answer. I hope that is because she did end up taking a trip to the four corners as she had planned. She is supose to have today off, so I will hear more tomorrow I am sure.

Hi everyone! I have kind of been keeping up, just not posting lately.
Selena, those drinks you were talking about sound yummy!
Heidi, that is too bad about your friend. I hope she is doing okay.
Steph, that is great that your nephew is doing so much better.
Lulu, good to hear from you again.
Marcie, congrats to Ariel on honor society! That is great!

We are hanging in there. Brad has an interview tomorrow and thought of a couple of other places to send resumes too yesterday. His dad is making him crazy. I knew it was a mistake to tell them. His parents always have such a gloomy outlook on everything. Just when I think Brad feels a little better his dad will call and tell him things like he will probably have to take a job he doesn't want. That might be true, but he doesn't need to hear it constantly. Sometimes I just want to smack him (his dad).

As far as the Colorado monkeys getting together, I am up for it. Let me know when you are thinking about. Just to let you know though if the kids come too, we haven't told them about Brad's job yet. I don't see the need for them to worry about it right now. They are both pretty sensitive and I think they would worry to much.
