Craigslist - WOW

Do people usually try to negotiate the price with you when they come? Just wondering what to expect.

Honestly, I'm happy to get rid of it & would take less than what I was asking. When the new dining set arrives, this one would've been on the side of the road for anyone to take.

Some people will try to bargain but you certainly have the right to say no. I would base your decision on the responses that you get. If I have several email of interest, I won't lower prices. If you do not want to come down in price, I would state in your correspondence with them that your price is firm (and cash only.)

Been selling and buying on craigslist for years. Love love love it. You have to treat it like you're having a garage sale out front and those people you're talking on the phone or via email are like those ppl you get at garage sales.

They always want it for the cheapest price - ALWAYS.
Sometimes they are flakes.
Sometimes they are rude.
Sometimes they are unreasonable.

You should be pleasant, but firm. It's just like a garage sale where ppl will try and bully you into a lower price.

Good luck!

I guess I need to give Craigslist another try! About 2 years ago I was looking on there for a baby grand piano. I should have known something was up when there was one in "very good" condition for only $150. I called the guy & he said his parents passed away & he just needed to get rid of it ASAP since he was moving, blah blah blah. I got his whole life story. He wanted to meet right then & there. I felt uneasy from the way the guy was talking, and said I'd get back to him at the end of the weekend if I was still interested. Well this guy turned into an almost stalker! He got my number from caller ID & proceeded to call my house almost every hour for 3 days! Even at night! I should have called the cops but I figured he would just go away if I ignored him. He wasn't being threatening with his messages (just harrassing with the amount of them!) , just very insistent that I agreed to buy the piano (I hadn't) and we needed to meet right away with the cash. He did stop eventually, but it creeped me out. He even kept calling after I had DH tell him on the phone that we weren't interested because we couldn't find someone to move it for us at a reasonable price. So my mistake for actually calling the person where he could get my phone number from caller ID (his ad said calls only, no email, and I fell for it). Who knows, maybe I missed out on a great deal for a baby grand for a steal!

I currently have furniture listed on craigslist and immediately for a response from someone... wanted to send money to me for the movers...
Be careful out there...
I told him - the movers are not my contract and I declined his offer to purchase my dining room set!

Another lover here of Craigslist:goodvibes We have had so much more success here than EBay, and less hassle. I had a few issues with some defective items on EBay and tried to get their help and PayPal's help, to no avail. Never again. I too did have an incident with a "buyer" on Craigslist though, it was my son's dirt bike where someone too told me they were sending the movers and sending me a cashier's check but the "secretary" made the check out for too much money, and to give the "movers" the difference when they picked up the dirt bike. Yeah, right. I told them if they contacted me again, I was calling the police.

Just sold a bedframe on craigslist last weekend. I had 8 different people respond. the one lady came promptly and paid in cash as I had requested.. :thumbsup2

Sold a tractor on craigslist last weekend that just a year ago got off craigslist for free! And we sold a bar we had in the basement - both in the same morning! It was profitable! I keep asking DH, what else can we sell? We've bought stuff off it too. You have to be fast though, when wanting to buy, and be able to notice a scam email when selling. Personally, when I get the scam emails, I dont respond back (in case theyre tracking emails some how) - I send it to the spam button!!

Oh -- and you should set up an alternate email name. Most email accounts let you use more than one, so set up your craigslist account with an email name just for that purpose.

I love Craigslist!! I've been able to get great deals on a gas stove, a really nice oak dining set, a Little Tikes playhouse. My best deal was that I was able to furnish my little girl's room for $40. I was able to get a toddler bed and mattress, table and chairs, toy storage bin, lamp, bean bag chair (all Disney Princess) and 2 sets of bedding, Princess & Little Mermaid.

I have also had good luck selling many different items.
