Craigslist... Porch Pickup?

Does anyone ever do this?

I believe that my MIL does this on a regular basis - she's a "can't throw anything away" kind of person, which is fine, but I wonder just how safe this method of "recycling" is.

Apparently, people say that they want the item(s) that is on Craigslist, and you give them your address and put the stuff on your porch for them to come and pickup. This way you don't have to be there or meet them to give them the item(s).

Am I just crazy, or with all of the scammers in the world, doesn't this just seem a little unsafe? I guess it really isn't that much different than a garage sale... but something about adding the internet into the mix just makes me wonder.

I do this with Freecycle all the time . But I also live in a small community that is pretty safe. I only give my address to the person that is picking up the items. I have also been on the list long enough that I recognize the names of most of the people and have dealt with them before.

BTW... your cat (the tan one) is SO cute and reminds me of a stray at our old apartment that we used to feed!

I think it is safe as long as you live in a fairly safe area. Certainly there are always risks.

I do this with Freecycle all the time- both giving things away and picking up things from other people that I want....I dont have any problem with it.

Wait until your neighbor goes on vacation and then use their address and porch ;-) Actually I considered using the apt. porch next to me that is vacant!
