Crabs in our swimming pool - BIG UPDATE!!! #76

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: You are one of my favorite people. Just thought I would share.

What part of the country are you in? There are fresh-water fiddle crabs you can get in pet stores, so if you are in a warmer climate, they could have been escaped pets. These crabs do like brackish water, so they probably would have been drawn to your pool.

We're in Florida, and the lake behind us is brackish water, so I guess it's possible somebody dumped some back in there. It still would have been a pretty far crawl for them to make it to our pool. I'll have to show the picture to DH and see if that's what they looked like. He had already moved them before he came in to tell me.

Guess we won't be just diving in the pool at night anymore without turning the lights on first!

Whatever you do, do not scratch them, that seems to irritate them! :rotfl:

I had a snake in mine once, super, freaky and nasty.

OMG!!! You won't believe this!! DH just came in the house and informed me that there are 11 of these things in the pool now!!! How on earth do we get rid of them??? It is definitely a fiddler crab, and all I can find on the internet is how to care for them as pets! Geez, I want them gone!!

It's definitely been my day for critters!! Crabs in the pool, baby snake on the porch!! So not loving my new house right now!

That's it. Between your snakes, the other ones recluse spiders & now your crabs....... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I'm NEVER moving to Florida...or going to be able to go to bed nightmare free.

Stop finding things in your yard! :rotfl2:

You would DIE if I showed you the pictures of the spiders we had in our other house!!! HUGE!!!! I'll take the crabs any day over them!! The snakes . . . . not so sure. They rank right up there with the spiders - terrified of both of them!

Oh, and don't forget to check under you bed before you go to sleep!!! ;)

Where in Florida do you live? If you live near some mangroves they are probably coming from there.

So glad I live somewhere cold...

(the spiders and snakes)

I think their kinda cute in a weird crab sort of way.

Pensacola. We've got friends that live in a marshy area SEVERAL miles away that told me tonight that they get them all the time. Like I said, we're near a lake, but we're way up on a hill, and the lake is way down below us. I can't imagine that these things would climb that steep cliff, but I guess it's possible. Today is the first day they have showed up though, and we've had the pool up and running for almost 3 months.

My friend told me tonight that they REALLY hurt when they bite though. Her dog got bit on the nose by one, and the pincher broke off and they liked to never get it pried off the dog's nose.

aww poor dog.

with some super glue we could fix the pinching problem...:rolleyes1

Im pretty sure its mating season for crabs and Fiddlers are known to wander especially uphill during it. Its all male crabs so you dont have to worry about the crabs doing the dirty work in your pool :thumbsup2

Wow! That sucks that you have crabs in your pool. But there are worse places to have crabs I suppose!

Oh yay!! SIGH!! We were sooooo loving the pool at night too! So, when do they go away????

great news

At least you guys don't have lake flies.

We've got nasty, stinging yellow flies that nothing seems to kill. Does that count??

Actually, they have gotten better lately. Guess the crabs scared them away!
