CR Tower Bay Lake side closed

Hi everyone -

We just returned from our trip and I wanted to give you a heads-up - the bay lake side of the CR tower is closed due to hurricane damage. While we were lucky enough to get an MK side room, they were moving some guests with tower reservations to other resorts or to wing rooms.

We saw them pulling carpeting out of most rooms and a "disaster reponse" company from Maryland was present at the CR all weekend. There was a definite musty smell on the first day. A CM said most rooms had water damage all the way to the doors.

Apparently, they are not informing guests that they may be overbooked. We saw a guest checking in with a tower reservation who was being moved to a wing room,. She said she called on Wednesday to make sure there was no hurricane damage and they told her all was well - then when she arrived, there were no more rooms available in the tower.

I talked to a helpful CM who said they hope to have everything repaired in the next week.

Wow! I guess we left just in time. Our room was on the Bay side on the 14th floor. We were suppost to leave on Sun, but took an earlier flight on Sat before the airport was closed.

One thing we noticed about our room was the sliding door was very "wiggley" when you touched it. (Not that it felt like it would break, but not as firm as our's at home.) We were wondering if it was suppost to be like that due to hurricanes or had just taken a "beating" with all the recent hurricanes.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. I have reservations there next week. Maybe I should call the CR directly and see if they can tell me anything.

Yes, that's a good idea. The woman who had tower reservations and was moved to the wing had called CRO and they told her that there were no problems. But they already knew there were more reservations for the tower than rooms available - which in my opinion is terrible - they should have told her that there might not be a tower room left when she checked in so she could have the choice of rescheduling or accepting another solution. She was already there, so she had to move to the wing.

It looked like they were working really hard to get it fixed - there were numerous trucks and lots of workers there. I think you should be ok - they told us it would take about 5 more days on 10/2.

Thanks again. I leave on 10/15. I will try to call thr CR directly tonight (can't at work) and find out if they will tell me anything. I will pass on the info when I get it. If anyone finds out first please post it here.

I wonder if this damage is from one of the hurricanes or when the water main broke back in August. Either way I'm sorry to anyone this affects.

Did you notice any water damage on the MK View side of the CR Tower rooms that you were staying in?

No. The MK view rooms were all fine. (Our party had 3 rooms and they were all fine). The only problem was the entire tower had a musty smell the first day, but that cleared up as they pulled the carpeting out of the bay lake side rooms.

I don't leave for a month but I will be sorely disappointed if I don't get my tower room! I've literally waited years to stay there!! I'm sure they are doing everything they can to get it up & running to full capacity asap! Thanks for the heads up!
