CR Review (Long)

I've currently got reservations for POFQ for 13 nights over Christmas 2008 and into 2009. I'm dying to try a deluxe resort but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. That $3K is our spending $$$. I'd have to save at least another $100 per paycheck to pull that off. The price goes from $4100 to $7100 for the Contemporary. It IS the less expensive deluxe alternative. MK is our favorite park. Perhaps I need to consider a split stay? :confused3

Have you considered doing a split res at the CR? We are arriving on the 30th (holiday rates) and "checking out" on the 1st and "checking in" on the 1st (value rates). We are save a substantial amount per night....just a suggestion!!!

OP...TY TY TY for posting the pics! We leave in 12 days and I am so excited!

Where did you take the pics of the EWP? It looks like you had a great view!

I know that Councourse steakhouse is supposed to close around April or May:sad1: . Any idea when the new Food and Fun center or whatever it will be called will be open? Think it might be open by Thanksgiving?

Chef Mickey's Express is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-August '08. I ate breakfast one morning at Concourse Steakhouse about 10 days ago and the waitress told me that they had just been informed that the closing of the steakhouse had been delayed until sometimes in June. I don't think Disney has officially announced the delay. Sometimes CM's don't always have reliable info.

I'm really hoping that they don't close Concourse until the new restaurant on the first floor is up and running. They need a TS and Chef Mickey's both to handle the crowds, especially if there is a convention in house. I never saw much convention business hitting the quick serve locations, but I've seen them lined up past the escalators at Concourse. If the first floor construction is behind, that could be why they are telling CM's about a delay closing Concourse (just a guess on my part).

Thanks for that great review.:thumbsup2

Only 2 weeks till we check in to the CR:cool1: :cool1:

My kids picked CR because they loved the look of the hotel and the monorail. I told them we were staying in one of the value resorts, I hope they get a big surprise when we check in to the Contemporary.

Its good to read some positive reviews it seems most people either love it or hate it, I haven't been yet but I think we are going to  it.

Honestly, my gosh we wont stay anywhere else but CR now. We only stayed at ASMo before and I splurged since it was 2 nights and we were just attending the MVMCP. My husband LOVED it and he has always had the attitude " I will go for the kids". Now he cant wait to go back in December to CR again!

This is exactly how I feel. We just got back from our first stay at CR. We had a garden view wing room and loved it.

I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else at WDW now. I didn't want to go home.

Kimmilee - wow, staying for 13 nights - how fun!! My opinion is that for a stay that long, I would not spring for the deluxe. I think you will enjoy mod. That's just me - as for a split stay, personally, I have no desire to move all of us in the middle of vacation. I know other people do it, but it holds no appeal to me. I'd stick with what you are booked and do the deluxe another time, a shorter stay when it won't be as expensive to upgrade or there is a great code.

I loved your pictures! Thanks for the positive report.

Have the Garden Wing rooms been rehabbed? I think they were in 2006 but can't remember.

Also, do you have to go outside to get to the main building?

Thanks!

Hey jamal. Thanks. Yes, all of the rooms have beeb rehabbed. The wing really looks great. Yes, you technically have to go outside to get to the tower, but you go under a covered walkway that takes you right to the doors. Its about 30 seconds from the wing door to the tower door.

WoW! Those pictures are great! That MK view is fabulous...I can only imagine how awesome that is to wake up and go to sleep with that view! Now, that's magical!! The Bay View was also very nice...very relaxing looking out at the water.

. It was so hard to go from 10 pillows to one pillow when I got home. I'm going to have to go pillow shopping!

truly knows what you mean now I am up to 6 pillows on my queen size bed... and yup thats what I did by the time I got home... pillow shopping :cool1: amd some comfortable white comforters and a remote control caddy... oppss do I sound like I am reliving my moment at CR :goodvibes

Thanks for the positive review! DH really wants to try the CR and I was reluctant based on some of the posts I've read. I'm much more open to it after reading your review. Your pictures are beautiful! Thanks again!

Thinking of staying here next December....

Question about the MK View.

As far as having to look across the parking lot to see the Castle, was that cut out of the pictures at all or was the picture itself? I'm just trying to gage the most realistic picture I can before booking.

Love to see so many others like the Contemporary. We will be going to Disney World 06/17/2008 and staying for 10 nights. This is our second time visiting the parks in Orlando but our first time staying on property.

I was a little skeptical becasue of the bad reviews but loved the newly remodeled rooms and the access to the parks. I also chose this hotel becasue my 77 yr old mother is going and my 3 yr old niece. I thought if either one of them wanted to to take a nap this would be pretty easy.

I have to admit that the price is steap. We are paying for a MK view. I figured if I was going to stay, I would just bite the bullet and go all the way. My 17 yr old son is also going so this would also be easy for him.

I just made ADRs this morning at Coral Reef, Teppanyaki, Cinderallas Castle, Jikos, Le Cellier, Chef Mickeys, Ohana, 50's Prime Time, Yachtman Stekhouse and 1900 Park Fare Supercalifragilistic Breakfast.

I don't want to be oversheduled but I want to make sure we not stuck eating all counter service meals.

:welcome: to the dis mikeymyles.
I so wish we could afford a MK view, but Garden wing it is.:sad1:
I too love  the pictures of the new rooms.
I am still a relative newbie here as well, but there is one thing I have learned, what people write is purely their opinions, I read it and move on.

We choose the CR for the new rooms, the monorail and the convenience, and while I appreciate others opinions, you know yourself what will make your trip special for your family.:thumbsup2
Enjoy your holiday and the CR:upsidedow

Your ADR's look great:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. My boys want to stay there. I fell in love with the Poly, but your review makes it sound just as magical.

Thanks for the review!! We just stayed there for the first time Nov. 22 - Dec. 1. We were in a garden wing (actually the very end building of the garden wing) and we loved it! We were on the first floor and our view was of the main tower. You cannot beat the location of CR! The only negatives we could come up with are 1) the sliding bathroom door is made of glass, so when one person got up early to take a shower and turned the bathroom light on, the other could see it. I was usually the first up, so it only effected me 2 times. 2). The sinks are a waste of space. 3) there was a child in the room above us who we heard running back and forth very late at night and very early in the morning - I stood outside and saw him so I know that is who it was.

That is about it. We didn't hear any construction noises because of where we were. And we were very close to our car because of where we were too. Which was nice on our last day so DH could pack the car without feeling rushed. He takes forever to organize all of our stuff and hates for the CM to have to stand there.

We will definitely be staying there again.

Sandra

Thanks everyone for reading my review. I'm glad I've change some minds about the CR here, lol. It was truly magical.
