CR or POR

Ok, I have had a bunch of input on another thread with other options. We are going Nov 18-25 with our 3 kids ages 10, 8, and 4. We went in 2013 and stayed in ASM in a teeny room but honestly it was fine with our schedule we were only there to sleep. However the room was in the back, ground floor and so dark I am hoping for a slight upgrade.

We have it boiled down to 2 choices, POR or CR. We have priced it out based on agencies, through the disney website etc and with the quotes we have it is essentially a $1000 difference.

Before I got the quote from the agency I wouldn't have even looked at CR but the price was great so now we are looking at "paying" for convenience at a monorail resort when I never thought we could.

So our trip will be most days in parks, we usually hop. We want to do about 2 character meals, try Trails End, etc. We do all 4 parks, usually revisit all but HS. We probably would not devote an entire day as a resort day, but maybe a half day.

So for people who have gone to both - and let's just say we can afford the extra $1000... but should we? That's what we are asking ourselves since we have never been to either - what are we "getting" with that extra $1000? THANKS!

Yes I say do it. Especially for the ability to walk back to CR with a cranky child lol

CR is by no means our favorite resort, but you have the great convenience of being on the monorail and the ability to walk to MK. So, I agree with hedberg1661, I would do it.

For that extra $1000, you are getting a much bigger room, a day bed in addition to the 2 queens, walking to MK, monorail access to MK and EP, a view of the fireworks (from the 4th floor observation deck), a view of the electric water pageant, if you are on a higher floor on bay lake side you can see EP and DHS fireworks, 3 TS restaurants. Only you will know if that is worth it to you. IMHO, with 3 kids, I would do CR.

CR is definitely not our favorite resort either, but the monorail would be very convenient, especially if you didn't have a rental car, and with 3 kids! I think if you can try it, you should at least once to see if it's worth it to you. CR was our first stay, and we ended up preferring the theming of a moderate a lot better, however we did not have 3 kids with us, and we also had a rental car. My husband and I stay at a lot of hotels for work, and the theming was just kind of like any other Hilton or Marriott we have stayed at, definitely not for us for the price (price being definitely a key factor here). But if convenience is what you are looking for, you should give it a go! Personally If we ever did a deluxe again we would choose a different deluxe.

I had the same dilemma last year... por or beach club. About the same price difference. We chose Beach Club. I don't regret it. It was so nice to walk to epcot and hs. If you can afford it, go for cr. My friend who can afford to stay anywhere on disney property always chooses cr. Especially if you don't go a lot... splurge. LOL! Let us know what you choose. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies! We will have our car, and we actually did drive to most parks in 2013 which I didn't think was a big deal but my husband reminded me that he did the driving and even though it was just 10 minutes he was very tired driving after a long day :) So definitely a consideration. That said, driving or busing from POR is not out of the question either.
